  • Only Glenn can pull this off, slower that Grieg asks for..I saw a great documentary where he said that sometimes he want to give a differet approach..the unusual too slow or too fast for some pieces makes the audience get a little extra-interested (what is he trying to do?..) we ask then after we keep listening we (some of us) get trapped in his ...almost addicting style of playing

  • can you get rid of those annoying ads???

  • @marcohorowitz8 Unfortunately not! We live in times of commercialism and consumerism...

  • ending is the best 5:21

  • So lovely to read all your comments. My best friend played this in recital when we were students 30 years ago...it's one of my favorite memories.

  • that is the most beautiful thing I've heard in my life

  • lovely

  • I'm in awe.

  • beautiful performance x

  • Brilliant - but doesn't he play the notes incorrectly finishing the bar at 3:11 - it sounds awkward to other versions...

  • (in the right hand)

  • Once Glenn Gould sight read through the whole Grieg concerto and said "eh, this isn't for me".

  • I am surprised he didn't read it on the road in order to play it by heart on the piano on his arrival at the studio!

  • @morvensky The reason he said its not for him is probably because there is not that much he could do to that music to play it as differently as he always does to other pieces. Grieg concerto can only be played one way, that's it...

  • in my opinion its played a little too slow. i personally play it a little faster, but this is nevertheless a beautiful performance. glenn gould demonstrates, that hes able to play romantic pieces, too.

  • I have to agree....a little slow, makes it rather cold, don't you think? the little jig needs to go faster...but it's still gorgeous.

  • @stevenredd

I hear it too - but I love the coldness - like the bleak, cold Norwegian landscape. At the same time - it is warm and embracing. And it is, as you say, gorgeous (perfect description). I love it!!!! Thank you EG & GG.

  • @katznmuzik i saw it too. like the austere coldness of his rendition.
