ive had this phone for 3 years and im on my 3rd. it is not a very good phone if your wishing to have it for more than a few months. it becomes very slow very fast. on all 3 of my phones, they all just broke on thir own. im not sure how. but when i would call people, they couldnt hear me?? usually when you delete messages on other phones it is simple and fast but when using the eris it takes a lot longer to delete which i find very annoying. i would personally not recomend this phone
It is an old android phone. Thats my real negative complaint. Its still a good phone. I mean this was my first cellphone. My parents wouldnt let me get an exspensive phone. and This was $50. The cheapest android phone I could take lol. so yeah.

@WeekendWarrior1210 True there are some tweaks this phone REALLY needed. The processor (500mhz Qualcomm) couldn't even handle the load that Android 2.1 put on it and HTC and verizon didn't care much about this phone to begin with. They slowed t dow dramitcally. I rooted mine. Running 806mhz and buzzing along just fine. I can even run live wallpapers. Oh and im running gingerbread. (Android 2.3)

@tameem345 I had the eris and didnt have any problems with it other than the usual android issues that most android phones have..but if you're just now getting a phone I would go with something newer

Worst fucking phone i've ever had. Made my life miserable. I got it replaced 3 times. Its easier to throw a dart at an ant from over 9,000 yards away than to use the touch screen, along with the other buttons.

Keyboard stopped working, battery lasts half the day, less if you use the GPS and/or mp3 Player, slow, laggy, freezes, randomly touch screen doesn't work in some spots. WORST OF ALL though, when I called Verizon to discuss the problems and possible solutions, they said they couldn't do anything, but gave me the number for HTC. I called HTC, who said the SAME THING, and gave me Verizon's number. Never buying a Droid phone again
@Travsterable its slow fragile doesnt let you type fast battery life sucks not all buttons work for a long time you can only have so many apps and my uncles and mines both lost their volume buttons but.... screen is not fragile lol display is nice camera is ehh

I'd have to say the down-side is maybe the keyboard. I make mistakes on it very easily and I would type it fast and simple on my ipod. So I'd suggest you use the swype mode instead of pressing the keyboard...if that makes sense. lol
Pros: the droid has an awesome camera, it gets your mail, it gets internet if you want it, it has an awesome home page. It is small and light and a nice design. It automatically adds #s to your phone from facebook. A lot of my friends dont know how to open it which is nice because it gives me time to get my phone back from them before they read my texts or it makes them give up.
Cons: Texting is kinda hard, battery life is awful, and sometimes the gps/current location is wrong.
I have had the HTC eris for about a year and a half now......and I am about to rage.
I am moving to the HTC thunderbolt or the iphone 4 and the only way i didnt return this shit of a phone is because i rooted it and got roms and OC'ed it.
I don't know where you guys bought your phones, but I've had one of these for almost a year now and it works great. For me the text messages only take a couple seconds to send and it doesn't freeze. The battery does suck though, but you can just charge it at night when you go to bed, and it'll last a a couple days. The internet browser works great, the email, weather, and music app work well too... I've even dropped it on concrete a couple times by accident and it barely has a scratch.
The best way i can explain how bad this phone is, is to say that if i shit in a little black case, and it got service... That would be better than the droid eris. I suppose droids are good, but the Eris is terrible. Half the apps you can get don't work right, and if they do work then they're slower than christmas. Trackball broke after about a week, everything goes to the left when its on the charger, won't send messages, half the time it won't let you answer the phone. Worst phone i've ever had
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that is in love with my Eris, I've had it for over a year. I do a lot of stuff with it and I've never had any of these problems.
I like the droid. I hate this phone. Do not get it. Spend the extra money and invest in a higher-end model. Do yourself a favor and do not get this shit phone :)

I've used this phone for about a year now, great phone for only $99. And ever since the update to 2.1 even better. The only problem is the battery life, but getting Task Killer will give it a couple extra hours :P

the longer iv had this phone the longer it takes to do ANYTHING. iv started counting how long it takes 2 send one text message just so i can laugh bitterly and its about 1 min and 30 seconds...about 15 is me actually typing, the rest is it loading..it makes everything a chore
@CptChris562 I think it is. The web browser is alot better than the iPhone from my experience. The camera is very high quality, it's a great mp3 player, and the menus and widgets are very easy to personalize making it very convenient. I can check the weather, my email, and messages in like 20 seconds. It's pretty great, except for the battery. It'll go one day, two days tops. I don't mind though.

@MJsSexyDirtyDiana96 Delete all your text messages, go to your Settings > Manage Apps > Sort by Size, and delete the cache. Try downloading Advanced App Killer, and kill your running apps. Then restart your phone. Should be running a'okay.

@rhilly04 No, actually it's my third... I had the G1 and d1, but traded the d1 for this (My brother also has the iphone 4). Now i'm running KaosFroyo v.37 with launcher pro and clocked at about 825. Anything else you need to know? How did you go through three?
@hilerc first one the motherboard went to hell. the the scound one wouldn't take a charge. now the one I have, it forcloses every app that i tried to open (or use) and if it dont close the app, it just says please wait for a good two-three minutes. not even kidding. and if i need to make a call, i will push buttons half way threw it, it will freeze up, then unfreeze, then shut down. and another thing, the notification led light keeps blinking even when i have no new SMS or email.
@rhilly04 These mostly sound like software issues. You could try rooting it and flashing a custom rom to fix almost all of these issues. I'm running froyo right now by rooting and flashing a cyanogen mod. Did you ever do the auto-flash for android 2.2?
@zissoublue well back to you, Now here is a question for you, if the phone is so good, do you think you could still buy it. The answer is NO, They quit making the mobile device becuase its a pile of dog poo. Even in fact, when I went to the verizon store to get my third one under warranty, the sales man even said it was a POS.

I'd have to say the down-side is maybe the keyboard. I make mistakes on it very easily and I would type it fast and simple on my ipod. So I'd suggest you use the swype mode instead of pressing the keyboard...if that makes sense. lol

Pros: the droid has an awesome camera, it gets your mail, it gets internet if you want it, it has an awesome home page. It is small and light and a nice design. It automatically adds #s to your phone from facebook. A lot of my friends dont know how to open it which is nice because it gives me time to get my phone back from them before they read my texts or it makes them give up.
Cons: Texting is kinda hard, battery life is awful, and sometimes the gps/current location is wrong.

I have had the HTC eris for about a year and a half now......and I am about to rage.
I am moving to the HTC thunderbolt or the iphone 4 and the only way i didnt return this shit of a phone is because i rooted it and got roms and OC'ed it.

I don't know where you guys bought your phones, but I've had one of these for almost a year now and it works great. For me the text messages only take a couple seconds to send and it doesn't freeze. The battery does suck though, but you can just charge it at night when you go to bed, and it'll last a a couple days. The internet browser works great, the email, weather, and music app work well too... I've even dropped it on concrete a couple times by accident and it barely has a scratch.

The best way i can explain how bad this phone is, is to say that if i shit in a little black case, and it got service... That would be better than the droid eris. I suppose droids are good, but the Eris is terrible. Half the apps you can get don't work right, and if they do work then they're slower than christmas. Trackball broke after about a week, everything goes to the left when its on the charger, won't send messages, half the time it won't let you answer the phone. Worst phone i've ever had

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that is in love with my Eris, I've had it for over a year. I do a lot of stuff with it and I've never had any of these problems.

i have this phone and its a peice of shit. worst battery life. Laggy and unresponsive. it doesnt delete text messages. takes forever to call someone.my trackball is broken and makes my pages and stuff when im typing all go to the left. the battery lasts like mabey 4 hours if your lucky. i would throw it agianst a wall but then id be phoneless...then agian having no phone is better than having this peice of shit.

I HATE this phone! I have verizon and they have had to replace it 4 times in 10 months! They refuse to give me a different replacement phone! Battery , camera ,and internet are all aweful! not to mention it freezes up ALL The time!!

it freezes for me every once in a while... then randomly restarts does send text but all the games are boring except teeter is pretty interesting :] not the best smart phone ever tho... and it also calls the same person...twice :/ it calls even when im talking to that specific person D: but yea pretty crappy fone at times :/

I've used this phone for about a year now, great phone for only $99. And ever since the update to 2.1 even better. The only problem is the battery life, but getting Task Killer will give it a couple extra hours :P

the longer iv had this phone the longer it takes to do ANYTHING. iv started counting how long it takes 2 send one text message just so i can laugh bitterly and its about 1 min and 30 seconds...about 15 is me actually typing, the rest is it loading..it makes everything a chore

@CptChris562 I think it is. The web browser is alot better than the iPhone from my experience. The camera is very high quality, it's a great mp3 player, and the menus and widgets are very easy to personalize making it very convenient. I can check the weather, my email, and messages in like 20 seconds. It's pretty great, except for the battery. It'll go one day, two days tops. I don't mind though.

@MJsSexyDirtyDiana96 Delete all your text messages, go to your Settings > Manage Apps > Sort by Size, and delete the cache. Try downloading Advanced App Killer, and kill your running apps. Then restart your phone. Should be running a'okay.

@hilerc first one the motherboard went to hell. the the scound one wouldn't take a charge. now the one I have, it forcloses every app that i tried to open (or use) and if it dont close the app, it just says please wait for a good two-three minutes. not even kidding. and if i need to make a call, i will push buttons half way threw it, it will freeze up, then unfreeze, then shut down. and another thing, the notification led light keeps blinking even when i have no new SMS or email.

@rhilly04 These mostly sound like software issues. You could try rooting it and flashing a custom rom to fix almost all of these issues. I'm running froyo right now by rooting and flashing a cyanogen mod. Did you ever do the auto-flash for android 2.2?
