That was actually funny. I found nothing offensive about it. My goodness, he's not laughing at dead people, he is simply making a speech and doing a good job starting it.
I want to sincerely apologize for the joke with which I began my comments at the Conference. I appreciate in hindsight they were not appropriate given the death and illness of this tragedy. I feel terrible that my joke conveyed a callousness that I dont feel.
I hope my full remarks that day and my participation in the panel discussion reflect better on how acutely accountable we feel and all the actions to achieve our commitment to food safety leadership.
