@Ainulindale21 May I suggest G.I.M.P. (Generic Image Manipulation Program)? In a short description: it's Photoshop but free. You can't make perfect circles like paint but you can still use MSPaint with the save feature. My guess is that your work will be even better with it.

mortal kombat warehouse (google it) for all the sprites, very useful, just cut them out, stick on a new head, paste into a background, rinse and repeat. Yes it takes friggin ages but i've now got a very large selection of sprites ready to use so it'll speed up as I go along. This vid took nearly 300 slides :]
