DIY is one of the very few things in life that gets me inspired to live. I don't even care if I never manage myself. Just the thought that someone somewhere discovered it was possible...
@ZebbMassiv I've experimented with this. The best I ever got was about 12 degrees Fahrenheit below ambient temperature using a 15% alcohol solution instead of plain water. I considered using acetone but nah.
also nothing in america is a produce everything it's a product they don't pick apple from trees and sell it to you they put wax a many shit all over so it's a product
@UGLYMarioBROS Inception has nothing to do with physical or mental layers, but an aspiration, inspiration, or a simple inclination to upstart a change or pursue an new idea.
I have a question. Would this evaporation fridge work better in sunlight, or in shade?
Would it work better if it were made and set up overnight, taking advantage of those cooler temperatures to get it started?
Does it work at nighttime, cooling things significantly more than the night air, or does it only work in the daytime? I mean, where does the lowest temperature it can achieve bottom out? (Obviously it could never freeze anything.)
@infinity09x Inception has nothing to do with physical or mental layers, but an aspiration, inspiration, or a simple inclination to upstart a change or pursue an new idea.

really? you have crap to say to me? ok. well if i remember it stays at a constant temperature of 60 degress.. so how could that not work for dairy and meat? thanks for your concern about my health, but next time, refrain from using an innocent persons youtube video, which happen to be helping other people in poorer countries.
@zellerz1216 It not helping anybody in poor country. It is only a bush fridge and it is unreliable.
But yes, if that make you feel less guilty why not... It okay if they live with less then a dollar per day because we gave them a fucking bush fridge! They should be doing fine with no electricity or clean water, living in poverty for the next millennia while we feast until the earth die. Who need health, comfort and security when you can keep apples at 60 degree!
i saw a video on it, now that kids in africa can save food for longer and don't have to sell it immediately, they can go to school and get an education. also, they can eat food thats safer because it doesn't spoil as quickly. if you for any reason think that by talking crap you can get shit done in africa, think again. do you think we should just ignore them and not give them a free to use fridge to improve their health, economy, and education? were just trying to help.
@zellerz1216 said "[...] and not give them a free to use fridge to improve their health, economy, and education?"
You didn't gave them anything fagot. That bush fridge was use 4000 year ago in Africa and most likely was invented there too. What they need to improve their health, economy, and education is aqueduct, sanitation and cleaner water. See WaterAid dot org.
@newtubetubetube As far as I read it was invented by a guy named muhammed in nigeria in 1995. He started to sell a few free as promotionals, and as that got word around he got more sales in his clay works.
@faro0485 said "it was invented by a guy named muhammed in nigeria in 1995."
muhammed? In nigeria? Seriously. It is hilarious that you failed to see the scam from just these two word. Don't forget to send him your banking information so you can revive 1% of that prince's money transfer.
Pot in pot was not invented in 1995, they are over 4000 years old. Fuck you for spreading misleading bull shit.
@newtubetubetube His name was Mohammed Bah Abba. He got an award for his invention known as Zeer. By the way, you need to provide proof of this invention 4000 years ago. No I don't want to reproduce with you.
@newtubetubetube Oh and by the way, the supposition of such 5000-4000 year old cooling was for Ice creation or water cooling. Not quite refrigeration for food.
@newtubetubetube That's the page I was reading because I replied to you. If you read closely, they refer to water cooling and ice creation. Not quite what Professor Abba created.
@faro0485 said "[...] they refer to water cooling and ice creation [...]"
The wiki don't say anything about ice. It do propose it was use for storing. Does it take a fucking genius to go from cooling water to cooling food?
Your claim is that, 4000 year ago, african peoples were dumb fuck that could cool water but not food. And it took 4 millennia for your retard guy to come up with the obvious solution everyone in europe knew? You are either ignorant or been racist here. Either way, fuck you.
@newtubetubetube Errr.. don't put words in my mouth. The references there show ice being used to cool food. And that ice was stored in big storing holds, like a cave, right next to food.
Note that should read "that's the page I was reading before I replied to you". And no, I don't want to reproduce with you, give me your sister instead.
Holy shit! You mean if I pour cold water around something and then put apples in it those apples will become colder? Holy fuck! You're a goddamn genius!
@sixdollarshirt who said anything about cold water? if you actually had some knowledge instead of being a stupid troll you would know how this works and why you can use water at any temperature, given the right amount of time, due to evaporation. Holy fuck you're a goddamn moron!
I have seen where in India they are using this ancient method to make ice, and then they sell the ice to hotels. I suppose that this is only possible on cool days.
Hi there. Nice and simple solution your pot. It does not seem to work in my climate though. I tested it with a datalogger. I live in the netherlands. Temperatures vary from 12-18 degrees right now. I guess it's also pretty humid. Or am I wrong?
@zininzelfdoen Thank you for watching our video, I am sorry this method does not work for you, but there are many various ways to make a cooler, maybe some internet research will help you with your questions and allow you to make the best cooler for your climate. Sorry I can't help, wish I could. Let me know what you find.
thank you. this is fabulous. I think you could also use a clay saucer for the lid. like in the Sudan video for clay pot. Wonder if this would also keep the fruit flies away;'}})
@robbieirish Absolutely not. It uses the low wet bulb temprature for evaporative cooling. You want the boundary of the system to be exposed to dry air, not wet milk. Plus, I'd doubt that the wet bulb temp is safe enough to keep milk. This would work well for produce certain times of year, but if it's hot and very humid, this won't work at all.
What's sad is people don't consider the whole cost of these things. Think about the fuel to mine that sand, bad it, ship it, sell it. Same for the pots
@ctk1234 For a time the fridge has been screwed whilst the freezer still seemed to work. I eventually just froze the milk and used 1 bottle a day which kept things going. If you have any other ideas i'd be glad to hear. i didn't bother with the video's idea because i don't it would be a suitable refrigeration temperature.
one more thing, if what you said is true then how is the method (from video) implemented in hot Africa? Thanks for your response.
@robbieirish Well, you don't understand wet bulb temps. It's the temperature IF THE THERMOMETER WERE WET. For instance, I live in Phoenix, yet this pot thing would still work. This is because the air is very dry here. Basically, the molecules of water can easily "leap" from the pot to the air because the air is so dry. With that leap, this not only drys the pot ever so slightly, those molecules leaving also take with them their internal energy, (heat).
@robbieirish Also, your fridge is fine. Basically there is a cycle (which I won't get into) that removes heat from your freezer. This is were the components of the fridge/freezer live and work. Then, there is a small passage that "leaks" cold air from the freezer down into the fridge. (Since cold air is heavy it just sinks down). The passage between the freezer and fridge is clogged, probably with ice. Defrost your fridge with the doors open for 24 hrs, and clean throughly. Should fix it.
@ctk1234 Yeah I turned it off before for 24 hours and it worked for a week then it started heating up again until it was room temperature. Therefore, last Tuesday I turned if off for 42 hours(approx) whilst also placing pots of boiling water inside the freezer. Doing that also showed me where the vent was for the cool air to reach the fridge. Anyway, on Thursday (42 hours later), I switched it back on and so far so good. I'll admit i know little about this so thanks the for the info.
@robbieirish As I said before, if your freezer is staying cold, the unit itself is operating correctly. The problem lies with that vent. Most of them have a defrost mechanism that keeps everything running properly. I'd in the meantime, defrost again, and start tinkering around with fridge and freezer temp settings. Also see if you have a defrost mode or unit that's malfunctioning. (at this point you may want a repair-man.) If it's just too much, check craigslist for a used fridge. $100 should do
once again, thanks for your advice. Unfortunately, i have tried twitching the temp settings and nothing changed. as i said before, i used a blowdrier to see if there was any ice blocking the vents but it seems its clear. I have a feeling this is an electronic problem. you are clearly more knowledgeable about this subject than me, but on the information i have provided, would you really recommend yet another defrost keeping in mind we have just filled the freezer with food.

Acetone would DEFINETLY work better than water but even still only get you maybe a 30-40 deg F below ambient cooling.
