@19harry73 Using some sort of decal solution like Microsol / Microset... or Johnsons Klear / Future / Pledge floor polish, which is my preferred method.. :)
Any how, I was wondering if you, or anyone else on youtube, know how to fix my decals? they're always fading and just turn into a white shapeless blob.
I don't use any solutions, but I think it was just that one kit that did it, as I just finished putting decals on two others and they are just amazing. And the decals that didn't work were from airfix.
hi basicmodeling cwazmann1 said you do model contests and i was just wondering next time you do one could i enter and are there any rules by the way great videos and very cool tips!!!!
@mds13696 Yes, I do.. and yes you can.. there will be rules, but this years contest will be slightly different to the last two.. just keep an eye out, I won't have it just yet foir a while.. still shipping out the prizes from last years contest.. :)
@spiderrock2009 Don't expect it anytime very soon though.. Need o find the kit first, not that I can understand how I could possibly lose a big box like that.. :)
im building an m1 abrams, and do u know on the frontal armor there is usualy boxex with a box looking outline.hard to explain. the decals provided are way to contrast to be put on a military tank, especially a dusty m1 abrams. any way to fade the colors away?
@shevah2 The only thing you can do is to weather over the decals, after you have applied them.. If the model will be dusty, then just dust over the decals as well.. The method shown in this video only fades the yellow decal film, not the decals themselves..
As I want to join the airforce as my father and grandfather both were involved with, my little brother is following my great grandfather's footsteps and wants to join the Navy as a... Radar Operator I never thought that he was so I dunno what to call it. Mabye he'll see me zooming across the ocean to help our navy in combat...
@whikless 'A Model' has made a few different versions of the IAP-80 fighter, and very nice kits they are too.. I recommend you check out my 'Inbox review' of the IAR-80 A... :) It's not uncommon for some kits of German planes to include decals for Romanian versions as well..
Wicked idea - now i have a good reason to buy ancient kits!!!! Wouldn't like to see what would happen if the window wasn't condensation free. Probably a big blob of gunk on the floor by the time you got back from Hawaii!
A soft brush, prferrably flat.. and most likely 2 or 3 thin coats, depending on what paint you are using.. :) :) If it is Revell just be aware it dries quite quickly.. :)
Yes, best way to use it is to apply it with some sort of spatula.. make sure it is properly dry before sanding, don't do too much, it's better to add some more if you still have a dent or a gap after the first lot.. and sand it down gently with some fine grade wet'n'dry sandpaper.. :)
Glad you found it works.. and no, somebody in my club told me, that's why I like belonging to a club, because you learn so much just by listening to other peoples experiences.. :)
Some things I thought I had come across myslef turned out to be common knowledge.. :) But most of my 'skills' I have picked up from other people.. that is the quickest way! But I like to share what I know and help other modellers when and if I can.. :)
Giveit a go.. but some decals can be very brittle, and this is more a mean of removing the yellowness of old decals.. What you can do, however, is to give your decals a thin coat of a clear non-waterbased gloss varnish, on the sheet.. make usre it dries properly! That will hopefully keep the decals together... just make sure only to coat the decal though, and not too much of the paper around it, as it may have trouble coming off the sheet when dipped in water.. Above all, GO CAREFULLY!! :)
Absolutely... :) I was worried the sun would make the decals brittle, but that seems not to be the case.. if they should be brittle, that would have happened anyway.. :)
As for 30 years ago, that could well be true, as the decal sheet shown in this video (Heller Arado 196) is at least that old... :) It still baffles me that swasticas are banned from decal sheets overall, as it has nothing to do with the politics, but everything to do with building an accurate model.. I didn't include a set for your Me 262 though, as I wasn't sure what the law says and did not want you (or me) to get into trouble.. :)
Actually I was not joking (perhaps on the rumanian crosses)... in germany it IS a matter of politics and laws. Since 1945 swasticas are only allowed in a context with science, art, education, or history. Sometime in the '70s a judge decided that models don't fit in any category.Nowadays you won't even get the finnish roundels! Even in some of by warplane books the german planes do not wear swastikas.
I remember in one of my modelling magazines.. or was it an aeroplane magazine?, they made a BIG thing about a museum in Berlin allowing swasticas on their planes.. I think it was a Me 163 or something! That was a while ago.. Models depicting a historical aircraft surely should be exempt from the rule, but obviously not.. :) Over here there's no problem putting swasticas on the models, luckily..
That's why I always goes to town on a Friday morning, so I'm back before 'the leader of the opposition' comes home! (What she does not know, won't harm her! Unless she goes up in the loft...)
It does work a treat.. obviously the time span various with each individual decal sheet, depending on age and degree of yellowing.. you just have to leave them until you're happy with their appearance.. :)
There are modellers out there who build on order, yes.. :) But done properly they'll probably charge you a fair bit.. Personally I don't build to order*, as I can live with my own mistakes and paintblobs, but would not like to do that on somebody elses model!
There is also the option of kits that are pre-painted and just need some basic assembly done to them.. should be available in most toy.. erh, I mean hobby shops.. :)
That's the nose art of a Handley Page Hampden.. I won't use those decals on the model, by the way, as it will be built as a Swedish Hampden.. they only had one, but it was the longest serving Hampden in the world.. :)
who will be surprised of that? The swedes had no other choice but to keep the planes they had.. as their own industry was just tooling up, and the Saab 18 entered service a bit late
The way to fade the decal is to stick it in the window, as shown.. :) The sun does the work for you, for free.. :) I know some people like to scan and reprint their decals, but I haven't access to such technology, so I let nature do the job.. takes a bit longer, but by the time you've built the model the decals should be ready anyway,... :) As long as the sun shines.. :)
Yes.. well.. swastikas tend not come with the decals these days, you have to buy them separate.. :) But it only goes to show the decals are old.. personally I would not build any German WWII plane without them, as they would be incomplete, and historically incorrect.. :)
I doubt it works in the UK...last time we were there, the newspapers would declare the weather in terms such as 'sunny spells' so you'd have to decal your windows for six months or so :)
We do have the sun from time to time, and have had very little rain so far this spring.. :) A couple of weeks should be enough, but obviously you can add or deduct time as you see fit.. :) :)
