Can i look at one fucking animal collective related video on the god damn internet without reading the word hipster? Jesus fucking Christ, people sure know how to ruin the magic side of things!!!
@thelemurfool if he opened with the same two songs in Paris, London, and Dublin, then first song is called 'Drone' at the moment and the second song would be 'Tomboy.' If he opened with two different songs then you got me.
Sounds similar to Young Prayer, vocally. As electronic as Person Pitch, and no samples in sight. Seems under developed as of yet, but I know that Panda will not disappoint. Tomboy is coming out in September!!
all animal collective songs come to fruitation in front of a live audience.. one can watch the transformations of many pieces looking back on older live preformances of merriweather songs.. if you were at any live shows before 2008 you may have noticed how akward many songs started out, still wonderfull though. they were just tiny seedlings then! perhaps this is the reason Noah chose to preform new material in front of a european audience rather than the hyper-critical hipsters a la usa...
I actually thought the first song was alright...it's not catchy, but it's still pretty good. It reminds me of some of the stuff on Animal Collective's "Fall Be Kind" EP a bit.
I love Animal Collective. I like Panda Bear. I'm not sure how to judge these songs any other way than the way they are right now, the only we've heard them. Should we just not have an opinion? I'm know they will sound different in the studio. I certainly hope so anway! Objectively, this is a painful 10 minutes. If this was just some random dude's songs and video . . . well you know where I'm going.
the first song is pretty boring and is him going like EHHHHH AHH EHHHHHH over and over with no memorable melodies like ones on person pitch but the second song is alright it'll improve in the studio
Lol @ people judging these songs as they are right now. Any Animal Collective/Panda fan knows that every song on their studio albums are massively reworked final versions of songs they first played years before.
I'd agree for AC but Panda's solo stuff has generally come out very similar in studio to on stage. Only the songs which later became AC songs changed significantly. Give me an example if you think I'm wrong.
i was at the berlin show... the new songs were all very very good. for the first time in a while i was seeing a show where i had no idea what was going to happen, from one of my favorite artists, and i loved it.
have any of you clowns actually listened to the entire set? check that german bootleg that's floating around. the sound quality is atrocious but you can tell some of these songs have huge potential. i'm not saying this next album will be better than person pitch, but for people to be disappointed already is ridiculous.
Yeah, I have listened to the whole bootleg. And 90% of it is this dirge-like, formless stuff. The very end of the set is the best part when it picks up for three minutes. I'm not asking for Person Pitch 2, just something that is fun to listen to.
Good one! Look I'm a huge fan, I'm allowed to have an opinion. Since you were there I'll take your word for it that it was good. I'm just not impressed from what I've seen here. Is that okay with you or should I be thrown in hipster jail?
well listen to him. like how do you figure that he takes himself seriously by two songs out of the entire set being mediocre in your opinion? (the entire set was like 12 songs 8 or 9 which were completely new)
Why judge after like 1 listen? you weren't even there. at least listen a few more times before you make an opinion on someones persona. that's dumb. why even bring that into it? It just means he doesn't want to make a perosn pitch part 2, deal with it. artists change.
Great stuff. Sounds promising. I like that he's takin a new direction, since AC kind of took over the soundscape he had started with PersonPitch anyways. The second track is amazing.
I don't think we can totally judge it on the video versus being there. Someone on the Animal Collective forum said this second one was their favorite song the whole set. The live person pitch songs still sound sonically pretty different from studio. I wasn't overly impressed with these first two as with some of the others he's played, but I'm holding judgment until I hear them at a show myself/when his new album comes out.
these songs are pretty cool but do not compare to Person Pitch. I kinda agree with you. They are a little on the iffy side to me. But they are new so.. i won't judge till they are fully done. But it's interesting to see panda on guitar.
you're right...not fair to judge assuming these songs are in their nascent stages. listened to the whole set and like untitled 4 (surfer's hymn). i just feel like overall his new stuff is not as fun/catchy....just where he is right now i suppose.
@Somone23 .... like ChrisKC said, just an opinion (thanks for the defense). i think everyone needs to be a bit more objective instead of just flipping out cause there's new Panda Bear material to be had. i'm a huge ac/panda fan and have been fearing lately that they may have peaked a year ago. hope i'm wrong.
meh

It sort of makes me think Panda Bear poured psychedelic chemicals directly onto his brain and wandered around in a ren fair.
