Good video. Water is important. The Katadyn Survivor 06 Desalinator which allows one to pump fresh water straight out of the ocean is amazing. It filters viruses too, unlike other water filters. Is an amazing gadget that can easily be found on Amazon.com, but the downside is that it costs more than $1200. WHAT! LOL
The reason why I was thinking about this is simply because boiling water and solar stills just takes to long. Pumping though, I can be certain of.
@TheBrotherMo run it through a regular filter and then boil it for several minutes iv done it before and im just fine. just make sure u get your water from a stream where theres a current and rocky drop offs it helps to filter it.

Get a portable water filter! Bad water can kill you, and you WILL drink it if you are dying of thirst. I have a simple design using cheap materials that uses solar evaporation to harvest clear, potable water out of sewage, mud, green leaves, rotten hay or straw, anything that contains moisture. It may take a little time - but if you have a place with a little sun, you can survive on the water it produces. I'll give away the design - let me know how.

The only time gold or any other precious metal is worth something is if there is some sort of stability and people have the ability to make jewelry, etc. gold is not instant magic money, and besides, the one with the most guns, gets the valuables anyway. I'm in a small city and have about 1200 sq ft of Victory Garden space. My main focus is the potato because there is not one other single food on the place of the planet you could live off of save for the humble prattie.
If you were to solely eat meat you would develop scurvy pretty rapidly. If all you ate were fruits you'd also suffer. A potato has pretty much everything you need if you had to rely on one thing.

You're welcome on the potatoes. Potatoes do have their problems though. They're one of the most diseased vegetables in the garden. I planted 11 different varieties to try and avoid a backyard famine. They also attract bugs. I had my first cucumber beetle today and he wasn't singing happiness is a warm gun! lol
The potato does form a flower and thus a fruit. Don't eat this fruit though...it's the most poisionous part of the potato. It looks like a green cherry tomato. Let it dry out though. Inside are seeds. Potatoes are notorious for diseases but they're not transmitted via the fruit.
Say things get really crazy and you can't order potato pieces or whole potatoes that are certified disease free...save your seeds and use them next spring!
About the only thing potatoes are missing a bit of is vitamin A&D. you could actually make the D via the sun but milk is better. Cow might be impractical. A goat(s) is something to think about.
Oh btw the protein of the potato is in the skin so eat it. Wash it then eat it :P

We're trying to close on a home in the sticks right now and the lenders are being absolutely meticulous and painfully slow even though my credit is near perfect and my income can easily cover the mortgage. I have seen no evidence to need to store water or even feel the need too. If it's going to happen the government with inform us all by leaflet and TV advertising. Good video. Water is important. The Katadyn Survivor 06 Desalinator which allows one to pump fresh water straight out of the ocean is amazing. It filters viruses too, unlike other water filters. Is an amazing gadget that can easily be found on Amazon.com, but the downside is that it costs more than $1200. WHAT! LOL
The reason why I was thinking about this is simply because boiling water and solar stills just takes to long. Pumping though, I can be certain of.

Get a portable water filter! Bad water can kill you, and you WILL drink it if you are dying of thirst. I have a simple design using cheap materials that uses solar evaporation to harvest clear, potable water out of sewage, mud, green leaves, rotten hay or straw, anything that contains moisture. It may take a little time - but if you have a place with a little sun, you can survive on the water it produces. I'll give away the design - let me know how.

How much land for a couple grand? And where?
I'm in a small city and have about 1200 sq ft of Victory Garden space. My main focus is the potato because there is not one other single food on the place of the planet you could live off of save for the humble prattie.
If you were to solely eat meat you would develop scurvy pretty rapidly. If all you ate were fruits you'd also suffer. A potato has pretty much everything you need if you had to rely on one thing.

You're welcome on the potatoes. Potatoes do have their problems though. They're one of the most diseased vegetables in the garden. I planted 11 different varieties to try and avoid a backyard famine. They also attract bugs. I had my first cucumber beetle today and he wasn't singing happiness is a warm gun! lol

I wanted to add another thing about the potato.
The potato does form a flower and thus a fruit. Don't eat this fruit though...it's the most poisionous part of the potato. It looks like a green cherry tomato. Let it dry out though. Inside are seeds. Potatoes are notorious for diseases but they're not transmitted via the fruit.
Say things get really crazy and you can't order potato pieces or whole potatoes that are certified disease free...save your seeds and use them next spring!

About the only thing potatoes are missing a bit of is vitamin A&D. you could actually make the D via the sun but milk is better. Cow might be impractical. A goat(s) is something to think about.
Oh btw the protein of the potato is in the skin so eat it. Wash it then eat it :P
Don't stop there though..get some greens going. In the area of NY you mentioned Broccoli, Cauliflower, Spinich, Kale etc would do quite well.
During the dark ages grains failed but potatoes thrived.

We're trying to close on a home in the sticks right now and the lenders are being absolutely meticulous and painfully slow even though my credit is near perfect and my income can easily cover the mortgage. you say that you are moving up closer to Canada...where I live we get -45 weather almost 8 months of the year so you must know how to live and survive in the harsh winter! It's tough and hard. Gardening only happens maby 3-4 months of the year. Coming from California you need to look up winter in central canada! all the best!

If you don't want me to respond you can always stop responding. Others have opinions other than yours. like many others like me, we believe unless its obvious, there is no need to store water or food. That's what a refrigerator is for. A supermarket is were I find my food and drink and I am not to believe it will go until the government tell me so.

I live 150 miles from any major city in a farmhouse in a valley 2000 ft up in a mountain were there are only 2 other homes in view and where i live could get nuclear radiation fallout.

Beer is especially good for making friends. If a crisis of this dimension is coming you need cooperation and collaboration, house and/or street communities etc.
But most comments i read from the fear mongers are competition, fighting, guns and this Mad Max one against all bullshit.

My best friends' grandmum had a distillery so we've got whatever our friends and family may need to stay merry through whatever comes - we can have fun through the shift if we are prepared

morningmayan- Don't forget you can also collect rain water, boil it on a fire if there is no electric and maybe add a couple drops of bleach if needed.
I also want you to know that i do not know one dam person that is preparing for anything at all. Nobody i talk to thinks things will ever get that bad!
