So are Dan Akroyd and John Belusshi responsible for getting Brian Wilson to rejoin the Beach Boys toursin 1976? I saw a clip of them dragging Brian out of his room, dressed as Cops, telling him he was in violation of some code for writting songs about surfing, but having never actually surfed. This was in 1976, They dragged him out of his room out to the Beach and forced him to surf. It was pretty funny. It's here on YouTube.

I was privileged to see The Boys Live In Concert, over 2 nights, March 1978, in Sydney, Australia. I had a backstage pass on the second night, watched the show from side-stage, & got to talk to Brian as he first-entered the stadium off the crew-bus. A good concert, but there were clearly, sadly, tensions amongst the band. But .. Boy .. that memory will stay with me all my remaining life .. fantastic.

Mike Love is funny on stage, trying to do his version of jagger--sorta sticks his skinny ass out, prancing about. What a turd, but he was an important part of their sound, so I must respect him to a degree

Mike deserves a fair amount of shit, granted, but d00d was essential to the band being what it was - both now (cringe) and then (amazing). He *was* talented as a singer, lyricist, and occasional songwriter. Again, "All I Wanna Do", one of their best songs of the late 60s? Mostly his work.

however, i've never once heard carl or dennis say that mike specifically would be nothing without brian. the closest thing was dennis' "brian does everything" comments, which is a *huge* slight on himself and the band, anyway.

When Smil was being recorded, he HATED it so much Brian scrapped it. NOW he "loves" it. Not to mention his rant about McCartney at the R&R HOF. Hypocritical bastard. Read "Heroes and Villains" by Steve Gaines.

@Mozart1220 Brian didn't scrap Smile because of Mike, he scrapped it because he couldn't finish it - too open ended, too many pieces. Mike has written lyrics to dozens of Beach Boys songs, hits which likely wouldn't have done as well without his work. Not to mention some great Beach Boys songs that Mike wrote the majority of - "All I Wanna Do", "Let The Wind Blow", "Big Sur", etc.

Again, enough with being blinded by Brian fanboyism. No need to discredit the rest of the band.

And yes, Brian is my musical hero. How has Mikes "solo" carreer gone? The only hit the BB had withut Broian was "kokomo" and they had to get outside writers like John Phillips to write something that SOUNED like a BB song, and then not let Brian be a part of it to prove they didn't need him.

@Mozart1220 I never said Brian wasn't a genius. Brian *was* writing and participating when those songs came into being, and was just as "on top of things" and involved as he was for Pet Sounds when "Let The Wind Blow" was recorded.

Regardless, again, the whole, "Everything must be a 10/10 A-Game Brian track or it's not worth hearing" approach is bullshit and criminally discredits the rest of the band. You're doing it with comments like that whether you realize it or not.

but y'know what? he was given those lines he questioned and didn't understand and y'know what he did? he sang them. sang his ass off. listen to the end of "cabinessence", one of the songs he specifically questioned. there's mike, singing his ass off. he trusted brian's judgement and did what he was told.

This is Karen Lamm whom he married twice. They met when Chicago and The BBs toured together in the early 70s, while she was married to Robert Lamm, singer/keyboard player with Chicago.

Her life was somewhat sad, a talented actress/model who lost a lot of scheduled work as she was difficult to work with (drugs). In her late 40s had bad drug-related health problems, was still addicted to prescription drugs/amphs, alone and broke. Sadly she died of a heart attack in 2001 @ only 49.
