  • >dat drumbeat kicking in

  • That bassline and the build up is so good!!

  • I love this version, but maybe this drum line was first born for bodysnatcher and they have destroyed the song, but what a cool destruction!

  • Everyone keeps talking about a clown... what damn clown???!

  • My favorite version! I wish it was like this in the album.

  • Trapped in paper...

  • ...Another haunting melody, from the one and only Radiohead.

  • Everybody go to 0:48 in the song!

  • I prefer the In the Basement version over the album version, but this is not bad too, I guess.

  • thank you..

  • I love the atmospheric noise in the background along with the Piano. This song show's the darkness that remains within one mans mind and feelings. But said in the most perfect choosen words.

  • best live version I have heard. curious as to why thom left out the middle section where the piano takes off though...

  • why do i still listening to this particular version??? :s

  • I love this band and the song is sublime. Every once in a while you get a band or an artist that really changes things, and this is one of them. BTW If you like this check out my music, it has a similar kind of vibe.

  • Holy shit.

  • i've seen this before(the two stick figures) where is it from?

  • Don Herdzfelt. Think it's the rejected adverts cartoon he made

  • Maybe RH knew that these bootlegs would exist, and this version would be out there forever -- figured they could record a version of it that would influence music to come because they have ideas. I know, In Rainbows confuses a lot of people as to "why didn't they record 'better'?" And a lot of people think it's just written well, but wasn't produced to suit.

50 years, Radiohead will be justifiably alongside the Beatles.

Trust me, they are at least a decade ahead of their time w/ In Rainbows

  • It was produced by Nigel Godrich so therefore it was recorded the way Thom and Jonny meant for it. Yes they will be the new generation's Beatles which is a high compliment

  • @Partyrockk I'm a huge huge Radiohead fan but that last sentence is insane! A decade ahead? You do realise that theres been way more complicated and forward looking music since the 1960s?

  • Just when I thought the original was perfect...

  • He should have left the crescendo and diminuendo (is that what you would call it?) parts in there on the album version.

  • Ahhh! It stops after 1:30, and the rapidshare link doesn't work!

  • Believe it or not, this is my favorite video for Videotape. Something about these two characters banging away, trapped in paper, terrified of the scary clown, actually goes very nicely with the song... very moving.

  • @wiseone0001 This is a very small clip (looped) of Don Hertzfeldt's animated short Rejected.

  • Anyone know when they might do anther north american tour?

  • how I wish I could hear this version live

  • what a version¡¡¡ the original song is simply great, but this one OMG¡¡¡ What a piece of art¡¡

Thanks Radiohead, Thanks thom, thanks uploader¡¡¡

If you have more versions like this, c´mon let me know it¡¡

  • this is the original!

  • ah we all have those my friend, luckily we have music like this to pull us through, i can honestly say i would most likely not be hear today if it wasn't for radiohead, i know that sounds far-fetched, but its the god-honest truth!!!!!!

  • me too.

  • It's not douchey at all. I have thought of this as almost the official video since 2006 when I first heard this bootleg. Have been coming back ever since. A terrific animation.

  • This is such a better version than on In rainbows, seriously i dont know why thom wanted to strip it,the whole build up with phil clickin the rim of the snare then the kick pedal then just as the guitars come in for the bridge it breaks into a beat, fuck me it would have been way better recorded like this

  • dont get me wrong when i say this, i mean honestly i like this version better as well, but it does sound a bit coldplay-ish, maybe thats what thom was thinking, and he probably figured chris martin would never strip something like that down, idk, just sounds like something radiohead would do

  • shut the fuck up. If anything, its coldplay that sounds like radiohead.

  • um yea, i know, THATS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID YOU FUCKING IDIOT!!!!! (maybe you should learn to read between the lines before making a dumbass of yourself)

  • A radiohead song can/will/shall not sound coldplayish, however, a coldplay song may sound radioheadish. UnderstoodED?

  • im just saying towards the end it starts to sound like something off of viva la vida, thom would never stand for that, i know it doesn't sound like im saying it the way i mean it, i agree 110% with you, you know what never mind, i can't get the words right, fuck it, your right

  • Just a quick point, this was recorded before viva la vida came out. But I do get what you're saying.

  • @preinfixed and Coldplay themselves have said they're plagiarists, so it wouldn't surprise me

  • i don't think the animation is at all stupid. after reading a few comments you made, it really fits well.

i hope that dark stage in your life won't come back, i've sure had enough of my share.

  • One of The Best Radiohead Songs EVER!!!! Beauty!!!!!

  • I have to know where you got the clown. This is an amazing video. Its so simple yet ... beautiful!

  • watching it again...it's actually rather terrifying. that's quite an interpretation.

  • awesome music but stupid animation, i wanna scrumple it up

  • one of my favorites now..... yeah this is really good !!!!

  • why isnt the album version like this, seriously. I love the basement version cause its so simple but I was hoping after listening to all of inrainbows the last song, Videotape was going to a fantastic end. Its still a great version on the album but I think I would rather just end the album with thom and piano instead.

  • wonder why they used that clip in "rejected"....i don't see it

  • yeah, 'cause art isn't interpretive or anything.

  • FUCK.

    FUCK.

    Damn! That sounds amazing!

  • Yes 0:48 is fucking scary.

  • that punching of the elbow. aghhhhhhhhhhhh

  • thanks for the download... such an amazing version!

  • does anybody noticed the 0:48 second?

  • this is obviously Mephistopheles

look at the lyrics, it's a charakter from Goethe's Faust

  • mephistopheles is a demi devil, buddy;

down in the deep dark hell.

  • In the basement.. goodest version.

  • The "Rejects" animation goes surprisingly well with Videotape, this is amazing!

  • this version makes it their let it be.

  • " Album version lacks drama, too static and no climax."

    WHAT?

    PLEASE ELABORATE...

  • the climax to this version is at the beginning in my oppinion before the drums start its just perfect

  • i know what you mean.

  • the in rainbows version is naked. dont say theres no drama. it builds up to silent darkness. one with monsters in it.

  • tbh i agree the studio version is a letdown when you compare to this live version or the in the basement one

  • better than any version i've heard... basement, in rainbows, scotch mist...

  • wheres that animation clip from?

  • Don Hertzfeldt's 'rejected'.

  • lol don hertzfeltd

  • q buen dibujo de donde lo sacaste?

  • I love this so much.

  • I think the studio version is perfect.Every version i've heard is good, but the album version is perfect to me. So sad, so stark, full of feeling. Beautiful and dark.

  • i think this is one of their best song ever

  • the best.

they should have just recorded it like this.

the album version is also great, but seems a bit too dark and anticlimactic for an album like In Rainbows.

  • Radiohead is the answer to all problems.

  • oh man you're right

  • i wouldnt say that but theyre a fucking great band

  • bloody awesome! I really love this version of videotape, much more than the studio version actually, I find it simply too calm, like it's missing something...

  • wow there's so much wrong with that comment that I'm not sure where to start

  • How about the decision to click the "post comment" button?

  • I like it. It's sort of a blanket complaint that covers the other problems.

  • eh...huh?

  • Blanket. Linus (from Peanuts).

  • I can say the same for many radiohead songs. Sometimes I listen to them now, and they're so beautiful, so bittersweet, all at once.

  • Great version! Thank you for postin it.

  • this really is an amazing version, thanks for sharing.

  • It's a lovely version of a perfect song, thanks very much for sharing it :)

  • Maybe I meant 'Nude' and not this. Doh.

  • They've been toying with this song for around 10 years.. it's kinda futile to call any versions the finished versions. Picasso said that no artwork is ever trully finished... if it is, it's dead.

  • like what u said :)

  • You can't have full happiness without pain, dvillageo. If you do, you don't appreciate it.

  • Whoa. That clown face at 0:48 freaked me out so bad.

  • same here lol

  • This song is...every time it makes me wanna cry, but in a very good way. Never had heard this version, it's incredibly good. Thanks Radiohead.

  • This version should have been on the album...could have been a hit single. The album version ends on such a bleak note. Guess that's what they wanted? Cheer-up guys!

  • this is a lot better than the original ...i cant stop listening to it

  • This is the origional?

  • it's not exactly the original, you can call it the pre-release or an early version of the song

  • i really like this one.........i lov ethe way he starts at the begining........im going to see them tomorrow at DALLAS WOOOOO! go cowboys! lol.....but yeah i hope they play videotape like this

  • Thanks Radiohead for write this song, beautiful. They're my everything.

  • just started getting into the whole youtube thing...THANK YOU!...because of youtube i know there are people out there that love radiohead and sigur ros as much as i do...thanks everyone, you have re-instilled my faith in my generation

  • you're not alone buddy, there is still lot of people out there that appreciate true music ...i've been listening to Sigur Ros and i must im impressed with their music, i cant beleive im going to see both RadoHead and Sigur Ros in Werchter festival, this is the first dream in my life to come true

  • you lucky bastard....best of both worlds. cheers to you friend.

  • @jegovernor no going back for you now... JOIN USSSSS

  • That was godly.

  • Wow, that was brilliant.

  • holy fuck

  • :O :O

  • sorry but I still have a weak heart for this version.. when i heard it in 2006 in amsterdam... just the rythmical transition from 02.30 to about 02.53 (in drums) is just freaking me out every time... i still miss that on the album version...

owh and people, don't forget to check Radiohead's favorite band (they're big fans of them and with every right!): Sigur Rós!! the film is also breathtaking ('Heima' Film Trailer). And live they sometimes even surpass radiohead... hehe... sometimes though

  • saeglopur is incredible live but it's the only one of their songs that i think surpasses some of radiohead's stuff.

  • Love Sigur Ros!!

    they are amazing

but radiohead holds a special place in my heart

  • Untitled 8 Live made my life.... that and Gong :-)

  • my two favs :D

  • erm.....im completely lost X(

  • I like the album version better :) (but this is amazing too)

  • dude u copier the stickmen were from the family learning channel

  • awsome stick ppl!!!

  • Those stick men are like "Let us out!"

  • What you say!!

  • increible cancion...que parte de tu cuerpo no vibra la escucharla?

  • What is the clown from?

Love this song, by the way. :]

  • ^^^^

  • the crazy face is from an animation called "smile"

    look on aniboom's youtube channel

  • !!!

  • Amazing, the most beautiful thing i have seen in years!

  • Perdi ocho minutos de mi vida viendo esto...

  • tuviste ocho minutos para entender todo y no enetendiste nada...

  • the clown thing scared me the first time i saw this

  • Who made that cartoon snippet?

    It is absolutely terrifying.

  • it's from Don Hertzfeldt look for animation show

  • Brilliant.

    So creative.

  • lol, when i blurred my vison i saw three people hitting each other, and then when you concentrated on the center persons head it really seemed freaky...

  • thanks, now i have a migraine :P

  • that clown thing scared the shit out of me... haha

  • omg this is fantastic. I wish that if they wanted the studio version on the cd, they made this one of those hidden tracks on there. That would have been great.

  • i can't fucking wait until their u.s. tour. i hope they come to washington, i'll pee myself and camp out for days and days.

  • Another Radiohead classic. Can't wait to see this live.

  • why do the stick people scare my friends so much?!i guess it is a bit freaky...

  • Make it full screen and look at it from a distance and blur your vision you will see why then...

  • Funnily enough, when i read your comment, as i was standing away from my screen, the bit with the clown looking guy comes up, and im like is that psychic or somethin..?

what am i sposed to see?

    Love the song.

  • O don't know I just say a pattern of a stylized skull

  • the stick people are coming for you bar bor ahhhhh....

  • NNNOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo!!! I always knew it would come to this...

  • i like the album version but this is better. he changes the word the word "I" to "you" on the record in the last line and I think it looses a lot of it's impact

  • I know what you mean! I still love the studio version but I was upset that he omitted the ending of the line "I'm talking to you before... it's too late from my videotape." Sounds kind of dorky but I miss that line!!! LOL

And I also liked it better in the live versions when it gets a little faster and louder in the 2nd verse! It had more impact for me. But I guess I can't complain because I think the album version is a masterpiece!!!

  • I wonder why didn't they put this version in the album...it's better than the studio version...

  • love this vid.. so scary

  • You should watch the whole thing. It's by Don Hertzfeldt called "Rejected".

  • I've concluded that I like both versions equally for different reasons.

  • I think its good that they have done the 2 versions beacuase it makes it more interesting when you see them live and probably makes it more fun for them to play it. Roll on Glasgow Green 2008.

  • i think they will keep playing it live this way, not like in the album, i'm almost 100% sure about it... and the same goes to versions like: down is the new up, go slowly, 4 minute warning (though i like the studio version better), etc.

  • I hope so, this one builds up like weird fishes does on the album, the album verson of videotape stayes about the same level throughout, but this one packs a punch, for an ending it should.

  • definitely, excellent point.

  • there's a reason they changed it and frankly, it's fucking brilliant the way they did it

  • is nothing compare to the album version

    but stills cool

  • yeah for me its really better than the album..

    :)

  • how does it lack the spirit of Thom?

  • this version is mindblowing..

  • this video is very fantastic!!!!!!I'm italian..but I love radiohead!!!thom yorke is very very beautiful!!

  • hey ,better than the album,it dispppppppppppoints me

  • The album lacks a stand out track. It would have had two had they not have changed this song, and had they have put on the older version of nude.

  • Yeah, that's what we want, album lacks the spirit of thom

  • Yeah, that's what we want, and album lacks the spirit of videotape,it's a little pity

  • what about Bodysnatchers or Jigsaw? theyre pretty good lively tracks, stood out for me.anyway i think this album was supposed to be a little more ethereal than before. "In Rainbows" suggests a calmer, more sedated mood. I didnt much like it at first, like i dont like any Radiohead album at first, but im still a huge fan now. you have to listen to em in the right frame of mind.

  • The live version is amazing! Too bad the beat got edited out in the studio version.

  • Great recording, shit video

  • its got a drive to it the album version doesn't

  • yeah i like the live better too

  • There are two songs by radiohead that are good, but too depresing to listen to... "Videotape", and "True love waits". I love these songs, but I really have to be in the right mood to listen to them. Thom does a great job at catching ghost in his songs. These songs are haunting, and I cant help, but to thing of loosing loved ones when i hear them.

  • have you ever heard "last flowers till the hospital"? that one makes me sad too. but yeah, this song is incredible.

  • I'm sorry but i think it would be much more poignant and "haunting" (what the song is trying to do i believe) with johnnys guitar and all, I truely think they chose the piano solo version as a metaphor to the end of the album.

I'm surprised that nobody has thought this was just a "fog" knockoff..

  • what do you mean? that radiohead are going to release another version of videotape apart from the one they released on in rainbows?

  • gárgulas desprendidos da pedra. E mais e mais x.y².

  • That sounds almost too good to be true. The live versions were so much better than the download release.

  • i wanna download it so bad, but im waiting for their disc box that comes out in december. cuz i wanna get both this and the extra cd that come with it in the discbox.

  • If I heard right, I think the Discbox comes with the download as well; it's not one or the other, but you actually get both.

  • i kno. im so psyched for it. but its gonna be kinda expensive. im buyin it tho.
