Even Lampley at that point could not imagine that Whitaker will go against De la Hoya throwing not only less punches than he did against Hurtado but at times not throwing punches at all. Unfortunately the brilliance of Pernell was overshadowed by Tyson, then Roy Jones and Tito. He was just the best boxer ever in the wrong division at the wrong time.

This is some of the worse decision making by a referee by not stopping this fight about 7 punches sooner. Hurtado was defenseless and had he not fallen in between the ropes, it would've kept going....

Great Vid man. I remember this as the fight before De LaHoya. I remember watching then and saying my boy is in trouble. Glad he came through in the end. I decided to look for this fight on youtube. I was watching the Chavez and Whitaker fight (first viewed in 2006 because I was in bootcamp at the time of the fight) and wondered if the Hurtado fight was available. Thanks for posting. First time seeing it since the night of the actual fight.
