I remember all this. I lived at 1302 S. Highland Ave. from 1970 until 1983. I attended Havlicek, Lincoln Jr. High and Morton East. I believe I marched in the Houby Day Parade at least once representing Morton East. i marched the Homecoming Parade also. It's too bad there's no commentary to the video. I occasionally go back, but so much has changed. Still, it's nice to spend a moment or two remembering what it was like.
Wish there were more from Berwyn"s past.I lived in the old Ritz theatre building until 1962 when I went in the Marines.Havlick.lincoln,morton east. It's all changed now.
nice video. i grew up in north berwyn during the 70's and early 80's. went to Havlichek, lincoln and morton west. we had the best pizza, Salernos, Benny's. Played baseball at the rec. ice skated at janura and proska in the winter. but it's not the same town. the italians were replaced by mexicans, oh well times change. i'll have to find some old 8mm film and post it
Im 13 born and raised in Berwyn at 32nd and Home The Houby day parade is not what it used to be because there are more Hispanics now but the Houby day parade still attracs many people
Have to say how great the memories are here. Looking at the Houby Parade. I live in California, but raised in Berwyn. My children went to Piper School and we lived on Riverside drive. I owned The Cabin Restaurant & lounge from 1967 to 1981..I was very envoled in so many organizations and starting of the Houby Parade, I left in 1982 and moved to Ca. how nice to see the houby parade except I was right next to firestone and in the video firestone was there but just missed the Cabin, so sad..Sherri
@SHERRILOVE1 wow I forgot about The Cabin...It's changed a lot in the last 15 years..Some beautiful achitecture in Berwyn, especially along 22nd...Thanks for The Cabin reminder.
For all you berwynite's, here's are some memories. I love the Hula dancers from the old Rickshaw restraunt, it was actually in Lyons and my mom worked as a waitress there!
