  • What is the name of that ship?

  • Yes, as a kid we crossed the Channel /North Sea every year, and you knew you were in for a rough ride when all the lorries and cars were ''chocked'' and strapped to the sides of the ship, and in the passenger areas, the furniture was bolted down, and the chairs were on chains. But these were ships that regularly sailed rough waters so the crews were experienced.

  • That is so bad seamanship. I used to work as a skipper..hmm not to tie things up before a storm wow..how clever!

  • LMFAO! I bet that romm was all fucked up at the end of this! That stuff shoud have been tied down!

  • why didnt someone batten the fucking hatches!?

  • Occurrences like this are where the expression “loose cannon” came from. One loose cannon bouncing around in heavy seas could break others loose, tearing the whole ship apart.

  • @BlankBrain Thanks for the info brother.....

  • ha shouldnt it be straped down?

  • @theunboxers1 looser

  • it was not on august 1 this year. it was 2008!!!

  • Anyone notice water leaking from lower part of hatch? Either the door seals are damaged, door itself has been twisted due to impact from that forklift which must weigh about a ton or the waves are real big ones and dynamic water pressure was greater than pressure rating for the door. Now imagine if that forklift had impacted with the hydraulic ram locks and cracked or snapped them. Since this door opens inwards that would make for a very bad day...

  • @TK42138 I believe in another article it was noted that the deck this is on is normally well above water level. Those hatches are for loading and unloading at the dock and are on deck 3. They never anticipated a 30 degree tilt on the boat because of the stabilizers (which were broken) so those doors were not 100% water tight when submerged.

  • @drysdriz

Hi, thanks for the info. Maybe it was freak weather or perhaps a sign that this type of weather is becoming far more common. Wouldn't be too surprised if ship loading hatches are designed for regular immersion. Hate to think how many sea sickness cases there must have been...

  • Forklift looks like a 3 tonner (capacity) which would make it about 6 to 6.5 ton actual weight.

  • Forklift wins

  • There's another view of this room from the other end and there is a guy in there who bolts as soon as he feels the ship starts to roll. Scary stuff.

  • Surprised that forklift wasn't chained down. Standard procedure to secure all equipment not in use even if weather is fair as ships can still encounter freak waves.

I bet they changed their procedures after this storm....

  • @TK42138 I bet a few safety people lost their jobs to

  • Jesus, at 0.40 when the frikkin filing cabinet comes flying through the air.....that could have killed someone np, not to mention the forklift. Why the hell weren't they lashed down when they first got word of bad weather?

  • It'd be fun if you were in an empty room or a room with super light objects lol. Slide around for fun & hope you don't get K'd O

  • I have been on 7 cruises and sometimes u cant control the weather, ur at the will of the ocean.

it can hit so suddenly, and if ur in the middle of the ocean there is not much u can do about it except ride it out.

  • @05cjb I think you will find you will NEVER be able to control the weather, Its not just sometimes!

  • wow cant beleive how poorly they prepared for heavy seas

  • @ford46power No shit, heavy machinery flying around, hope nobody was down there.
