i,ve just returned from a recent trip to the "lakes", & i must say being a bit of a petrol head & all things of the sort myself, i was totally taken in by the legend of BlueBird k7 and its pilot Donald Campbell..just wanted to say what great work you,re doing ensuring the legend of BlueBird k7 continues for generations more.
do you have any photos or information about the Lake Eyre land speed record atempt as I have the Lightburn Zeta Sports Prototype which we believe was at the lake with the Bluebird.
I am trying to write the histroy of Bordon Bedson and Harold Lightburn as to the links with Donald Campbell as the Zetas were used at the Lake Eyre Attempt.
There's some real confusion going on here re. the music. The music used here is 'Alpha' by Vangelis. We have OTHER videos on You Tube that use (with permission) instrumental versions of 'Out Of This World' by Marillion, and short specially composed pieces by the band also.
I only learnt about Donald and Sir Malcom by reading a book written by Leo Villa when I was in high school .What you guys are doing is more than restoring a boat, you're making their story live on and i can't wait to see her run again.Keep up the good work
Check out nokando face book to here a song written about Donald Campbell its really good, or go to what a mullet on youtube, it really is a must for any Campbell fans.
Very interesting and well done. This is an essentila piece of British technological history and shows just how we could have still had a leading aerospace industry. Good Luck. (By the way what is the tune playing?)
Hi again, not trying to be a pest , just a fan of music, this song is very old. It is also used in a series called Cosmos by Carl Sagan. Marillion may have re recorded it. That I don't know. I think the group was called Vangelis or something like that. I am a huge Marillion fan, so if you know were I can find their version let me know . If it is them. Thanks
Great to see - I'd been led to believe the rebuild had ceased due to lottery wrangling... is GIna still going to run it on Coniston water once as year as I believe she once suggetsed? Hope so!
I was 21 when Donald and Bluebird took to the air in that dramatic conclusion. I never thought that the craft would become a reality once more. A dame fine effort to you all!
Utterly fantastic! DC would definitely approve of the restroration of K7 Bluebird, as he was a fully paid up card carrying member of the British Association Of The Never Say Die Club! Bluebird is as much a national icon as the Spitfire IMHO. I cannot wait to see her on display-tremendous effort by the engineering team!
absolutely incredible, after such a horrible crash then all that time on the bottom, you guys are doing an incredible job, look forward to the finished restoration.
Glad to see how it's coming together. I assume the old engine will just be retained for display. I understand you intend to make it running however are your ever going to hit serious speeds?
Yup, the old engine is already on show at The Ruskin Museum, as shown in this video in fact. The boat will run again with a replacement Orpheus, but only at low demonstration speeds- she's got nothing left to prove, after all!
i was in that lake yesterday, freezing btw, our school 4 residentials went rafting in the middle and its shallow

did the song change since your comment? This is not the Marillion song from Afraid of Sunlight CD
witchfindergeneral13 2 years ago
Yes your right it isn't from Afraid of Sunlight as it was specially recorded for the project. It hasn't changed since my last comment.
