When sikkim became part of India around 1971 china bite its nails. China is still very jealous over sikkim issue. It wished it cud have grabbed sikkim coz sikkim looks more chinese than Indian. But the fact is that sikkim chose India to democratic structure and they did saw chinese brutality in Tibbet.
I'm married to a Sikkimese Bhutia, any questions, throw them my way! Will get OH to do his best in response, but yes, it was an ever shrinking country until it gave in and became an indian state, sadly, it really is overun with corruption.
First of all, it is spelled "Nepalese." Yes, Nepalese is a general language spoken in Sikkim and sub-Himalayan West Bengal, as is in Nepal. Hill people comprises of numerous tribes each unique in their language, food-habits, and culture. The original inhabitants of Sikkim are the Lepchas.
In fact, Nepal has been the enemy of Sikkim for a long time. It annexed part of Sikkim, but later had to give up the land under British control. Thats why you see a lot of Nepalese in Sikkim. However, they are two different people and Sikkim is a state of India.
Nepali is a "language" which, happens to be the commonly used vernacular in Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Nepali spoken in India is different "dialect-wise" than Nepali spoken in Nepal just as Bengali spoken in West Bengal is different than Bengali spoken in Bangladesh. One needs to understand that "language" does not always dictate one's nationality.
BTW, Nepali is one of the recognized regional languages of India. It was included through the 71st Amendment of the 8th Schedule.
Friends, let us not confuse our people saying different story. if we think that we are Sikkimies that means we are Indians. we respect each others tradition, cultures, religions and languages so feel proud to be an Indian.

Sikkim was never annexed by Indian government. Also, it has been a state of India since 1975.

india established everything by force but that doesnt mean anything
shah0123 4 years ago
India never took Sikkim by force. A general consensus was conducted in which people from Sikkim "chose" to be a part of India.

Yeah, after indian military force took that area and exiled its leader.
