@healthlevelseven Nothing against Guinness, I own several editions of the book . One thing to keep in mind is that part of this claim is implied. 8 hz is legit, a measured vibration. Nothing more, nothing less. Read more into this and people expect a full 6 octave plus singing range. Storms first octave - still on the keyboard - solos are strained and predominently fry. According to his own claim that's awfully close to his mid vocal range. Big problem.
@fuitbag Make a video of you talking and singing lower than JD. I'll even put you in one of my video's if you are lower in chest voice than JD. Those are big shoes to fill though.. Good luck
Even though he isn't the lowest SINGER anymore....he should be in the Guinness World Records book for having the lowest SPEAKING voice....I've heard of a bass singer, but the only bass TALKERS I've heard are J.D. Sumner, London Parris, Mike Holcomb, and Tim Riley. And J.D. has the lowest speaking voice of any of them.
@CGJUGO80 1998 actually. I remember when he died. I used to like to listen to him when I was little on the homecoming tapes but never thought I'd be a bass too. Now I love to sit and listen to his tapes and follow along!
his vocal range makes so much more sense now. most of the time he's talking low g so you can see where his low c's came from. anyone know the highest note he ever sung (in chest voice obviously)?
JD Sumner was amazing and I love his voice, but his Guinness record for the lowest note was broken in 1984 by Dan Britton. Tim Storms came along and broke Dan's record by almost 2 octaves in January 2002. Earlier this year (2009) Tim broke his previous record of 8 Hz. Tim has sung in Christian groups Acappella, Vocal Union, Acappella Vocal Band, Rescue, and a few others. Tim and Dan both sing with a group at the Pierce Arrow Theater in Branson, MO.
l grew up hearing JD and his band. My dad sang gospel music and he sang bass. He went to every convention he could and he got to sing with JD once. l won't comment on who sang lower, lol. l hope that they are singing together again over there.
cool voice, but i found more interest in recognizing the glossy black finished top of what i'm assuming was a B-cabinet style hammond organ towards the end of the video
I had the pleasure of meeting several southern gospel bass singers during my time in the gospel music "loop", I found George Younce, Tim Riley, J.D Sumner to be some of the lowest bass voices ever... what tops their voices was the kind and gentleness of their character and sincerity of their calling. J.D wasn't a great singer, but man could he hit lowest of lows... miss and love him much
JD Sumner-over 700 gospel songs written, over 50 years singing professionally, helped start the National Quartet Convention, Blackwood Bros.-Stamps-Masters V- Elvis Presley's hero and friend since EP was 14 years old-Guinness Record for the lowest base note. Tell me who dead or living could match that?
O.M.G. and i thought my voice was deep. my voice is deep as hell especially for my age (well im 18 now so it doesnt count anymore lol). but THIS, this is a voice from another world. that's it. this guy is officially my hero
this laugh sounds fake lol
