i had known for years that Connie Francis had dubbed Tuesday Weld's singing voice. However, I thought they were not supposed to reveal that in the credits.
Ghost singers usually are not credited. I guess is that the makers of this film wanted to promote the careers of BOTH young lady's since they were both unknowns at the time. Connie, as we know would be later become a famous singer in her own right..
so my guess is that Connie had ambitions for going BEYOND being just a ghost singer, and it happened!
I find it almost hard to believe that Tuesday Weld was only 13 when this movie was made, she was drop dead gorgeous! She really was a striking beauty in her heyday!
Her real name is Susan Kerr Weld. "Tuesday" was apparently nickname that came from somewhere.
Great acting, writing and cinematography. (LOL) When are they going to colorize this fantastic movie musical? Did it win any Academy Awards? Tuesay Weld has A GREAT SINGING VOICE. Too bad she didn't pursue a singing career. Did she ever put out any albums? For her first movie, this movie is quite endearing, even though it looks like it was put together by 7th graders.
A few more words. In the early 60's white radio stations stopped playing black music. Before that rhythm and blues had been synonymous with rock and roll. It became and still now is associated with black artists exclusively. Great songs from artists like Brenda Holloway or Kim Weston were only played on black radio stations ("Race Music"). Black music was repackaged for mainstream by Motown. Rock and roll had become very white bread and took two steps backwards. Then came the British invasion.
@PS109VanBurenHigh radio stations never quit playing "black" music.Brook Benton had a string of hits in the late 50's-early 60's.the Drifters went from 1952- 1966(at least).sometimes it was spoon fed to the white public.Pat Boone did a pretty good job of "whitening up" the R&B.he redid Fats Domino's Ain't That A Shame.he did some of his own songs too.think about Blueberry Hill and One Night.try Sam Cooke.you really haven't done your homework before your comment
I regret calling this an awful movie. One has to look at it through the prism of the mid 50's. Teddy Randazzo was a big heartthrob. Youthful innocent Tuesday Wells went through quite a metamorphosis after this. The movie is a landmark for showcasing whites and blacks together as equal record stars and performers. He gave blacks a lift into the mainstream youth music world. For this he endured a backlash which forced him off the air but the "damage" fortunately was done. There was no turning back
Thanks for sending up the whole movie. It's an awful movie with a rare piece of trivia. A small role is played by Fran Manfred as Arabella. She had one radio play song in 1956 called "Oh My Darling Don't You know" which isn't in the movie. I bought the 45 when it came out and have uploaded it to You Tube. No one has ever heard of Fran Manfred - and there she is in the cast of characters of Rock, Rock, Rock. If anyone knows anything about her please let me know.
a fab piece of rocknroll history loved it cheers gazza uk
