  • this doesnt even exist in the book

  • I love this symbolism. He's litteraly lookinig in his death.

  • Hey found a shortcut through the hedge maze! LMFAO

  • Don't make me cuts my way through!

  • Yeah, the aerial shot of the maze has a different layout...but I'm actually surprised the map outside the maze and the first angled shot of the miniature maze even match up. Considering all the effort Kubrick went to in order to make the whole movie spatially disorienting, I'd actually call THAT consistency the real continuity error :P

  • Great metaphor for paranoia. Isolated writer as a God sees with deformed intellectual thoughts his familie in a model of the maze...

  • the music is creepy...

  • This scene sums up everything I like about movies.

  • the simpsons should have done something with the twins to parody the axe murdered twins in this movie

  • *saws through maze* Hey I found a shortcut through the hedgemaze!

*Don't hurt him, his fatehr's gonna go crazy and chop em all into haggis*

    What's haggis?

You read my thoughts, you've got the SHINNING

    you mean shining?

    Shh d'you wanna get sued?

  • wow... ONE person disliked this.....

  • @RaspberryPrincess15 a person who was killed in the maze

  • The maze shown at 0:27 is much less complex than the maze shown at 0:35 which could be considered a continuity error (also a cost cutting measure, to actually construct a model of a maze that complex would be expensive) but I prefer to think of it as the hotel beginning to skew Jack's perception of reality.

  • @waltereg0 so the first lab. would be more expensive than the second?

and how did they shoot the real? lab scene? from a blimp? cause it doesnt look

    like bluebox!

  • @waltereg0 no no jack rearranged it...

    or stanley for us...

  • sqish them

  • Lol, I wonder if it could squash them with his finger if he stuck it down into the table-top maze model

  • he can see their images in the maze it was part of the ghosts plan to drive him insane

  • the movie may suc but i like that maze. Does a maze like that even exists

  • @leakesonasucs what brilliant contradiction! i dont know many movies where you seen a trick but have no clue as to how it was done ...

  • Is 0:35 computer animated ?

  • @Dritkul i dont think so, they didn't use computer technology when they made this movie

  • best movie ever

  • HERE COMES JOHNNY!"

  • absolute technical brilliance un-surpassed. RIP Stanley Kubrick

  • Everything you could ever want is at the overlook hotel. A giant pantry of food, all the teevee you can watch. Just watch out for the man with the axe!

  • The hedge maze is ultra awesome because it disappears between aerial shots and ground shots. What other hedge maze in the world can do that?

  • When I hit the lottery, I'm going to build an exact replica of the Overlook and treat it as my personal mansion....including the maze. If Warner Brothers tries to sue me, I'll do it overseas.

  • That was an awesome comment, but ironically most of this WAS filmed overseas. Peep the IMDB:

"The Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon was used for the front exterior, but all the interiors as well as the back of the hotel were specially built at Elstree Studios in London, England."

  • I thought that this place is an actual hotel

  • @tonytrilex the hotel itself is actually there atop mount hood in oregon. been a few times. the interior of the hotel in the movie is set in a studio.

  • I wanna go there! I love this movie. THAT would be so damn fun to play manhunt at night in there.

  • hell ya

  • screw that...i went to a hedge maze at "heaver castle"..took me 2.5hrs to find the center..then over the course of the next 2hrs i found the center 7 more times trying to get out...never again..hell no....

  • heaver castle... I went there, and yeah, thats fucking scary, I NEVER went in there... :D

  • Hate to tell ya, but at the real Overlook Hotel, there is no hedge maze. But it would be fun if it existed! XD

  • the hotel dosent have a maze ive been there it was just addedd

  • its because they used two different hotels to shoot the movie..

  • No shit. You played manhunt. Hell yeah that was the game game back in the day!!!

  • @DarkSilverYoshi It is acually shot in two different places. Outdoors is the Timberline Lodge in MT Hood Oregon, while everything inside is shot elsewhere

  • @DarkSilverYoshi You can in its in Colorado

  • @DarkSilverYoshi lol till you run into Nicholson.

  • That would be an awesome name for a horror movie, "The Hedge Maze"

  • if you stop at :39 it kinda looks like a monkey :D

  • i wouldnt like to be in that maze without a hedge cutter

  • The music was also perfect in this movie.

  • i have to know the symbolacy of this maze for a school project

are you really sure that it has to do with Jack's mind? because in the past years a labyrinth symbolised the path to heaven, making the right choices to get there

has that anything to do with this maze?

  • omg what kind of projects do you guys do. i wish i had a project on this movie lol

  • Yes I suppose it does...however there can be wrong turns leading to dead-ends in every maze.....

  • hey there. If you haven't done it already, just look a little harder. What do you see?

Shot at 0:27. Pyramid with Jack on top.

    0:39. Pyramid.

    Check the music.

Check "ooh. We made it. Isn't it beautiful?" They are at the top of the pyramid!

Now go own your classmates and don't forget to cite youtube!

  • i dont get it what does it symbolize :(

  • The maze of his mind. Duh. Don't look too deep because most movies aren't.

  • blackberryjuice1, it would be advisable to refrain from insult out of such ignorance. The director of the film was a figure of analytical and philosophical genius wholly unmatched in the 20th century & one of the world's great minds (as Rick Senat -Senior Vice-President of Business at Warner Bros- said: "he was one of the smartest men who ever lived."). Put simply, the maze is NOT a metaphor for Jack's mind. Not even close. But undoubtedly you wouldn't understand the true nature of the allegory.

  • Ah, but what does it symbolize ;).

  • GREAT MOVIE
