Sure, the movie was far more fictional than it could have been, or should have been. But, Kilmer's performance as Morrison was jaw-dropping. How many people do you know who can mimic Morrison to perfection?
It is this movie that made me realize that oliver stone is an ass who does not know anything about the doors. he portrayed jim morrison like a total failure. This movie sucks so much I have no words to describe it...
I didn't like this movie. They exagerated too much with the whole story. Prefer "When You're Strange" way better. It may be just a documentary, but it tells it the way it happened.
Ya know Val Kilmer is not good enough to lick Jim's bag right. I remember this happening as a kid and seeing it on the news. We used to bomb the local college station with calls to play a block of the Doors on friday nites.
This movie made Jim Morrison look like a sick person, he may have done all those things but the movie exagerated everything in this movie. I like this movie but its not what really happened.
after his lame Batman's act didn't know what would he be in the Lizard King's role. But as Jim Morrison he was so cool! He's back on my favorites! The Doors is the greast band of all time, they knew how to make real music
Val Kilmer BECAME Jim Morrison in this movie. Jims mannerisms, way of talking, way of singing, EVERYTHING. I"ve only seen two actors do this with this much conviction...the other being Jim Carrey as Andy Kaufman.
@ViralVideoCriticBeta you should see the movie "Control" and "Walk the Line". Those actors perfectly play Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division, and Johnny Cash
@iamobeliskquake Yeah, I seen Walk the Line before. Never heard of "Control"...have to check it out. Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles in the movie "Ray" was pretty good.
@ViralVideoCriticBeta youre going to have to get associated with Joy Division before you watch Control. BTW, their main inspiration was The Doors. you can easily hear the impact that Jim Morrison had on Ian Curtis
See...I like the bio pics of the 90's and 80's because they were somewhat accurate, down to the looks of the characters. Bio pics of the day lack greatly. They have actors who look nothing like the stars their potraying reenact situations that more likely than not are based on the fantasies of the biased writer. Whether the writer be fund or disgusted by the star he is attempting to display. And the music of the stars in the bio pic is always shitty and sounds nothing like the Original star's.
@noblesiner That's not allways a bad thing (the actors, I mean). Have you seen "I'm not there", about Bob Dylan? It's fucking great, and he doesn't say the name "Bob Dylan" even once. See it and you'll understand.
they make john densmore, robby krieger and ray manzarek look like the nerds in freshman year in highschool the first time someone comes to class stoned
I was at the Clemency Board meeting on Thursday it was quite interesting. Please watch the 3 part video I have put together to see how the Pardon happened.
la interpretacion de Val Kilmer fue sencillamente sobrervbia. No estuve muy de acuerdo con el guion, que mostraba la parte mas oscura de Morrison... pero el trabajo de Kilmer fu esobresaliente.
@diliei no, I think he hate more the people who seems to know the truth, as you. Anyway Jim will never die, he will be always alive, you will be forgotten in a moment. What is more delusional?
@diliei no, I think he hate more the people who seems to know the truth, as you. Anyway Jim will never die, he will be always alive, you will be forgotten in a moment. What is more delusional?
I absolutely hate the movie in that of the portrayal of Jim, but I deeply respect Val Kilmer's acting and dedication to the essence that was the shell Jim Morrison.
I, m a fanatic of The Doors, and discovered the thanks to the film, so .... I think it was a personal and artistic vision of Oliver Stone towardes Jim Morrisson. Not a comercial rock n roll hollywood film. I think ther´s a lot of Oliver Stone on that Jim ( self-destructive artist against his society). See JFK, Salvador, Born in the 4 of July, and you will find a similar type charcater, I think it´s the vision of Stone. Maybe that´s not the Doors, but i respect the film.
None biography movie is correct. But Oliver Stone should have researched better about Jim Morrison and his "gang". This movie wasn't so faithful with its real story about one of the most important rock groups of the wolrd. Whereas, I liked this movie a lot, despite it all!
I remember the first time i got arrested. Said somthing the officer didnt like he then smashed my face onto the hood of his car. Long hair had something to do with it.
come on...Val Kilmer did a lunatic, drunk, high and over depressive Jim Morrison. Of course Jim was depressed, but not like that. Jim was a sweet guy. What happened is that we don't see Jim in the movie, but a new guy/caracter, that we just love. Go check videos with the real Jim Morrison...you don't see him with that atitiude "i don't give a fuck" all the time....Johnny Depp besides look more like Jim, have the Morrison's atitude in life...just check some interviews.
it's Jim Morrison himself from the 'Absolutely Live' recording: the scream at the start, Oliver Stone is a great Writer/Director< I only hope he has something to do with the remake.
val kilmer did a pretty good iconographical representation of him actually. I read an interview with one of the doors members and they met Kilmer in character and thought they were talking to Morrison lol. Too bad the movie turned out to be something than they expected.
It wasn't a real biopic, it was more like some guy from the sixties exaggerating and over over over glorifying, (well not over glorifying morrison kicks ass) or capturing his 'essence' in a charachture, with loose historical ref
Well Kilmer deffinately could have done a better job, but it was Oliver Stone's sadistic little move to have Val play jim as a drunken child. Fuck oliver stone, man.
@AntiHeroSkateboardss Johnny Depp is grossly overrated. Somehow people are under the impression that he needs to play every single musician in a biopic.
@AntiHeroSkateboardss I saw it on Netflix and he did a beautiful job narrating that film. My issue is with the fact that his name is always mentioned whenever a new music biopic goes into production.
@helloolleh555 I agree with you that his name is brought up too much. And I'm not saying I'd pick him over Val, but if it wasn't for Val Kilmar I would've wanted johnny depp to play jim
@JoanneGlasspoole kilmer did a good job but i didn't like the direction stone took, jim couldn't communicate in the movie without saying one of his poems, morrison was a very intelligent person and they made him seem like he was on a 24/7 acid trip which wasn't true. they really only showed one side of him.
you shouldn't go to "the Doors movies" to lern aout the movie becuase just like this scene almost every scene in the movie didn't happen like in the movie!

oliver stone suck my cunt fuck ass shit ass mother fucker
val kilmer wasnt trying to look like jim you fucking idiot.
The guy is an actor he's playing a role. And he was actually really honoured to play this part as he is a HUGE doors fan himself. Your comment is silly and totally misplaced.
Stone really made Morrison look like an asshole in his suck ass film.Jim never locked Pam in a closet and set the place on fire, fer chrissakes!!! Val Kilmer wouldn't even TALK to Patricia Kennealy, the chick he was handfasted to in the Pagan Ceremony.
No rockbeast val had the spirit of oliver stone. You are watchng olivers Jim morrison, not the Jim Morrison of the doors, why do you think none of the band likes oliver stone's movie. In fact oliver stone later admitted that he really messed up when he made the movie.
stone exploited the legend that is morrison for his own personal gain,so if your going to go against likes of ray manzarek and the rest of the doors opinions, which they dont like this film, then your chasing rainbows like a big dork
wow i wish concerts now would be the same with that wild atmosphere. i do the same calling the cops slaves, they're all fat, siting in that fucking car 24 hours while feeding their asses with free donuts and waiting to pull over some1 so they can make money getting a ticket, FUCK COPS! AND I WISH I COULD BE THERE SMOKING POT AND KISSING JIM
WOW .....Not a good word from any post ....was any of you there? I wasn't . I 'm glad O.S made this movie.... fkn better than nothing ..you bunch fnk ASS'S, The DOORS fkn rock .best band of ALL TIME!!!!! If you want to sound clever & deep, and talk about god and fkn crap like that &have a bitch session,do us a favor and shut the fuk up...becouse your not clever or deep..man I bet you fuks are a joy to be around! Just listen to the great music and watch a clip from the movie!!!!! I.N.I
@TheLizardKing667 Yes, indeed. He only showed one side of The Doors. But i still wouldnt say he's an asshole. I think he somehow made lots of people discover the real The Doors. Wouldnt you agree?
99.9% of all pigs should be shot in the fucking head and beat down like the sorry swine that they are!!! and yes I do have to use the word .......... SWINE!!!

The guy is an actor he's playing a role. And he was actually really honoured to play this part as he is a HUGE doors fan himself. Your comment is silly and totally misplaced.
Now let me be a dickhead mixed in nigga shit.

Val was possessed by the spirit of Jim in that film.
RockBeast2 2 years ago 14
No rockbeast val had the spirit of oliver stone. You are watchng olivers Jim morrison, not the Jim Morrison of the doors, why do you think none of the band likes oliver stone's movie. In fact oliver stone later admitted that he really messed up when he made the movie.

@RockBeast2 and the real jim was possesed by something else lol

stone exploited the legend that is morrison for his own personal gain,so if your going to go against likes of ray manzarek and the rest of the doors opinions, which they dont like this film, then your chasing rainbows like a big dork
cripplewoox 2 years ago
It's funny because all these "Doors Tribute bands" act more like Val Kilmer than Jim. Checkout STARK CIRCUS on myspace.

It was December 9, 1967. Not 1968. If your gonna make a movie about The Doors, get your facts straight. Fuckin Oliver Stone.

i think manzarek could pull a film out about the doors. seeing as how they went to film school and he complains about the movie.

I don't disagree with you TheLizardKing667 but how can one learn about the other side of doors except for this movie and the utube videos?!
gmtkrt 2 years ago
Dont use the word `one` as the American blind people dont understand dude. Best concerts done at the london roundhouse, or the iow festival.
iowdave 2 years ago
@TheLizardKing667 Yes, indeed. He only showed one side of The Doors. But i still wouldnt say he's an asshole. I think he somehow made lots of people discover the real The Doors. Wouldnt you agree?

That's odd--the movie didn't show him being beaten? I believe Vince Treanor witnessed it, and someone else did, too.
