A person can survive that kind of a fall; unless they hit their head or are similarly hit by the debris... I searched under the date and "truck bridge accident", and you can find news articles reporting that only one person was seriously injured- all others were ok. :)
to say. leaks means nothing. in this application the pump forces oil into a cylinder to raise the box the oil flow is manually controlled with a hand valve. the pump is only required for raising the box. when the valve is moved in the opposite direction the oil is released from the cylinder, the weight of the box and gravity bring it back down.so if anything was leaking the box would come down not up. again things usually fall down not up.
one thing i need to add. when the pump is not required it is to be dissengaged.
any truck with a wet line, (thats what we call a hydraulic system on a truck) has a noticeable sticker warning the driver not to go over a certain speed with the PTO engaged.
now im not sure what your trying to say about the pump. are you saying a pump isn't required or a PTO isn't? coz i don't know how you would raise the box with out a pump to pump the hydraulic fluid or with out a POWER TAKE OFF to drive the pump. i am yet to see or hear of a highway truck such as the one in the video that runs a hydraulic pump continuously.

IF the driver had his mirrors adjusted even half assed close to were they should then yes the view is limited but the driver would be able to see down the length of the trailer. you are correct "hydraulics releasing" could be silent. but if the they were releasing the box would be coming down not up. usually things don't fall up..
