This was a HUGE mark out moment. Andre was unstoppable up until this point and nothing phased him. I remember actually feeling bad for him (even though I booed Andre)

A couple months ago I was having dinner with my parents and brother and wrestling happened to come up in the convo. My mom said something along the lines of, "I think Andre really was afraid of snakes." Then my brother and i assured her it was a story line.

This was a great angle. Andre's facial expressions and Jake's great psychological interviews really made it believable. I am reading Andre the Giant's book now. And one thing caught me as funny. Right before Wrestlemania 3, about 18 months before this incident, Andre and Bobby were guests on Jake's segment "The Snake Pit". But he sold his fear really well here! Andre was a true legend. RIP "Boss"!!!!

It's a shame to see the snake being manhandled like that - Andre nearly rolls over it at one point - but at least animal welfare has improved since the 80's. Still, the huge pop Jake got when lifting Damien over his head at the end was a truly iconic moment in wrestling history.

Considering that the Snake's body is thick and powerful enough to crush a human being, I don't think Andre rolling over it did much damage.

With that being said...Damien was incredibly patient for a snake, wasn't he? Brought to the ring in that bag, waved around by the neck like a weapon, thrown on people...and he just kind of chilled out and took it all in stride.

They used to have to sedate the snake beforehand just to make sure. You know with a thing that strong, if he doesn't want to go in that bag, he is not going. I remember seeing one clip when they forgot to sedate Damien. He came out of that bag pissed off, wrapped around Andre's arm and wouldn't let go. When Jake tried to get him off, he bit him on the hand, drawing blood. Jake was sitting in the ring, cursing up a storm.

It was from a match from January '89 from Los Angeles. I saw the clip on youtube a few months ago. Damien had a tight wrap around Andre's arm and when Jake went to take him, Damien bit him on the hand. I don't know if the clip is still on here but look up "Damien bites Jake" or something like that.
