  • he reminds me of george harrison in this video

  • is it wierd that im 14 and i LOVE paul kelly?

  • Why bother disliking this

  • @mpol6691 why bother not shutting up?

  • First heard this on Radio Australia this morning, and have had the video on repeat since finding it on YT. Love it, love, it, love it. The RA announcer said Mr K is 57 today. Happy birthday, Paul.

  • XE's wow what beasts, I'm surprised he kept the thing in a straight line.

  • 1980's paul kelly wouldnt have looked out of place in the smiths :-D love the VB can on the amp lol. fuck it feels good to be australian

  • XE XD whateva they r both shit, I should know I owned one untill recently and only coz it was given to me....anyhooo Paul Kelly is an Aussie hero

  • its an XE the XD had the black grill in front down to the bumper and XF was rounder lights with full colour bumper matching duco! google imagaes!!

  • paul kelly looks like steady eddie

  • XE Taxi :D

  • i didn't know warrick capper played bass

  • its an xe alright

and if the song is before 86 its DEFINATELY an xe as xf's didnt come out till 86

  • its an xe alright

  • Pretty sure that's an XE :)

  • Why does the taxi already indicate to pull over before the woman has even hailed the taxi at the very start of the clip?

  • @gxd4b1 Because when a person walks out into the road, looking around, but not crossing the street, the cabbie sees an opportunity :-)

  • its a xf mate

  • this woulda charted higher if it had lynda stoner or delvene delaney , abigail, karen pini or judy green . many boys turned off after seeing that ugly trollop.lol.

  • I love the back vocal.

  • @MrAlex101999 lolololol

  • im learning this on guitar :D

  • lawl im 13 and i he rocks

  • @MrDoctordoctor123 same i love classic rock and im only 13

  • This video makes being a cabbie cool. Stop the car and join in with the young couple in the back.

  • Hello. Can someone tell me what one of those valcons is worth in a fair condition? Thanks

  • @glovefet about $42

  • Paul Kelly playing a taxi driver. Very, very convincing. Such an unassuming, self-deprecating character.

  • This video reminds me of myself, the bloke in the taxi. The only difference is that I wouldn't allow anyone to smoke in the cab.

  • I wonder how muck heroin he ingested that day he made video??

  • 5 people aren't right...in the head..

  • Saw Paul Kelly at Big Day Out, smoked a doob, sat in the grass and relaxed to one of our greatest musicians

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GUY WHO ROBS THE SERVO AND GIVES THE TAXI GUY A HEAP OF MONEY?????????

  • What a brilliantly made video clip. It tells a day in the lif story and Pauls's acting is subtle. and then there's the magic song.

  • @4evaweRkindasisters I'm a few years older than you, but I was about 12 or 13 when I first got into PK, parents always played To Her Door, and I bought Songs from the south and then I guess I fell for his story telling, the singing poet..... I still think How to make gravy is his best song, a great writer though, if you like PK, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie are the way too go.

  • I sometimes undervalue this song due to overfamiliarity. But while actually listening it's hard to hear it as anything less than a perfect pop song. The first line seems harsh, misanthropic, but it ends up being maybe the most optimistic unrequited love song in the history of the world.

Meanwhile the arrangement seems effortlessly, joyously 'correct' in every way without ever seeming hackneyed. The gtr solos, the middle 8, the girl vocal; everything's in exactly the right place. Masterful.

  • every dog will have it's day, any dog can win

  • Amazing song... My very first concert was Paul Kelly opening up for The Smithereens at a hall on the Notre Dame campus.... I wish I could go back and see it again. This song has a place on my Top 20 of all time...

  • When we moved to the US from Oz one of the last things I did was buy a Paul Kelly CD to take with me as it is the one of the real sounds of Australia for me.

  • i didn't grow up when this come out but fuck i love this song! im 18 now but fuck i love the old music like this, i reckon it shits on the new stuff :)

  • A gorgeous tune. This was my 1st intro 2 his music. It was also the reason why I've stayed faithful 2 his music. Now, whenever I hear it, I have this natural impulse 2 cry... why? It is the perfect match between music & lyrics than either of those elements on their own. Like fellow 80s veteran Neil Finn (another enduring favorite), Paul Kelly is a born storyteller . He knows just how 2 paint a soundscape that beautifully depicts love, loss, & longing against a uniquely Australian sky.

  • I have not heard this song for a long time. I remember this song being bashed on the radio when I was in primary school

  • great song. remember this song being bashed on the radio back when I was in primary school

  • love this song

  • What a beautiful song :) Makes nice memories flow the the mind during the verses and chorus

  • @orden265 What, did you mean like a vindaloo or a felafel? Oh, sorry, you're just being racist. Maybe you'd better get on to Alan Jones to complain.

  • Comment removed

  • @orden265 Remember the days when there weren't Indians and Arabs driving the Taxis?

  • You know what's annoying? A lot of people are using the saying "Every dog will have its day" as if it's a negative thing. Like you'll get what's coming to you... It's so annoying because then there are songs like this with "every dog will have its day, any dog can win" and they won't understand it!

  • Gossip is the best album ever! plays like a greatest hits!

  • The best Australian songwriter of all time. Harry Vanda and George Young would have given their left nuts to write beautiful lyrics like this. Friday on my mind was a great song but nowhere near near as melodic as this effort. Kelly is Australia's Sir Paul.

  • yep i grew up with paul kelly

  • The coloured girls is a reference to Lou Redd's Walk on the Wildside..

  • luv this!

  • I grew up listening to this. I miss those days soooooo much. Australia was the bloody bestest country in the world. It's still the best for me but i's not the same. We had some wicked times then!!!!

  • @Westyrulz Enjoy this song sweety pie.

  • @hellrisesinsideme yeah im 15 and i grew up listening to paul and cat stevens

  • Where can i download the mp3?

  • Is'nt it wonderful to just listen and actually see a band making wonderful music. No need for bling,no girl with her boobs and arse hanging out gyrating around,no need to include an ethnic minority in the band,no filthy lyrics and no stupid meaningless video clip.Just a few blokes making pure and unadulterated music.

  • @Westyrulz totally agree with you im 15 and i would rather listen to paul and cat stevens than listen to most new music all they go on about is crap and the lyrics these days dont make any sense and its full of crap. thank god for the old days

  • @Westyrulz yep you are 100% right. It's just gorgeous music and doesn't need all the crap they put in videos now.

  • One of the best`s from LP "GOSSIP"!!

  • Paul Kelly and the Messengers are great!!!

    I`m bought original vinyl record!

What a song and sound..!!!! 5*

Unfortunately, he is so underestimated and unknown artist ...but, not for me!

    Awesome upload!

  • He was the soundtrack for my teens - and for most of the rest of my life too!

  • haha this guys brother is my teacher at school :)

  • i love paul kelly. it reminds me of my dad, we listen to his album every time were on holiday in margaret river or bussleton.

    paul kelly is a legend

  • All of Paul Kelly's songs are like in my veins, i grew up to this . AMAZING

  • Reminds me of my days driving a cab.

  • it says vacant on the taxi thing on the roof then when she jumps in its not for hire!

  • @MKDMakedonija I would have thought the fact he indicated he was pulling over to pick her up before she even hailed him would be more of an issue!!

  • classic love it

  • anyone else notice the irony in this video video clip that paul kelly was born in a taxi

  • outside the hospital i was also born in

  • @hellrisesinsideme

Yeah...still growing up at 51 here.

Wow, this brings back memories. Clip is shot in the streets of Sydney NSW.

Paul is indeed a true Nobel soul. Check his works with Kev Carmody.

  • lol hellriseinsideme... my kids had the same problem... im 43 and i love paul kelly and on long trips in the car, they had no choice but to listen to him for hours and hours as we travelled around this great land of ours...lol

  • paul kelly is goto one of the best aussie musicians "world wide" around and im 29 and i grew up to him and his songs are just fantastic =D

  • Every dog will have its day...any dog can win.

  • Brilliant!

  • Paul Kelly is a complete legend

  • paulmaurice kelly can you edit your videos of when these movies were released. Cheers xD

  • nerdy Melbourne guys are so gorgeous

  • this is bonza. Mellencamp did a similair video for Wild Night but it was ole Paul who came up with it first. Mind you there`s probably a French band who did the whole singer in cab thing in the 70s but who gives a rat`s arse...

  • love the empty VB cans on the piano!

  • I spent 5 months in Oz from Nov 86 until March 87, and this song as well as Leaps and Bounds were all over the radio. Great music. Great memories. Thanks for posting

  • Certainly did!! Could we get this implemented in Kings Cross ?

  • why does the taxi pull over before she even hails it. Check out his indicator light .........it comes in way before she signals him.

    ;)

  • @gxd4b1 Well prossies in the 80's used taxis frequently in Melbourne.

  • Comment removed

  • This was shot in Sydney, here is the evidence :

0:20 - White Falcon on left has yellow number plate

0:50 -> 0:54 - Taxi number plate clearly reads NSW on top.

0:55 - Centerpoint Tower (top left)

2:14 - Ute passing on right has yellow number plate.

2:42 - Panelvan on left has yellow number plate

    3:08 - Coca Cola Sign

3:22 - Car in front has yellow number plate.

  • lol we have to study his music in English and analyse how his songs are associated with Aboriganee issues

  • but...they aren't

  • most of his other songs were

  • from little things big things grow was. I do not know if other top 40 hits were. He has also written music scores for a stage show theatre that was an aboriginal written production so maybe the young guy is right.

  • @housemill1 How To Make Gravy had to be his most sucessful song, winning him song of the year.

  • He's had quite a bit to do with Aboriginal issues. He co-wrote with Yothu Yindi their hit "Treaty".

  • i forgot about the yothu yindi song. I am a murri too. but how to make gravy really reminds me of all the murri fullas I know who go ta gravy

  • awesome song and not a faggy holden in sight.kelly rocks

  • Also, am I correct in assuming that the couple arguing halfway through the video are the same ones making out at the beginning?

  • he is still in Centennial Park so i reckon so.

  • The taxi that pulls over before its even being hailed. Classic!

  • I love how it's a no smoking taxi but everyone does anyway :p

  • also notice how the party people there is 6 people in a 5 seater cab haha

  • hello does anyone know what year this video clip was made?

  • 1986

  • does anyone know where I can download this song? I cannot find it anywhere!! x

  • It's not a happy subject though. It's about a guy who is obsessed with his (ex) lover and won't leave her alone. Great song - I agree. And if you haven't already, listen to Chrissie Ampletts version - friggin awesome!

  • I love PK songs so much! From Japan.

  • Im in Japan to -on my 2nd day in Paradise studios Sydney I answered the phone and had to ask if there was anyone here called Paul Kelly, noobie me then.

  • Have you seen him there?

  • Sorry seen him where? He was where I worked, so if you mean there then yes we meet.

  • saw PK & Coloured Girls ... Perth 87 ... loved them then and just found them again ... ah the memories ... total class

  • Why was he indicating to pick her up before she had haled the taxi?

  • magic

  • I didn;t realise that was shot in Sydney until I saw the shot heading into Kings Cross at the end. I'm on the road in Sydney pretty much every day, and I didn't recognize any of that, it's all changed so much.

  • Who is/are the backing female singer(s) heard clearly at 2:19, 2:29 2:55, 3:04 ?? Thanks

  • I've often wondered that myself. Her voice is so haunting.

  • I wondered if the backup singers in this song were Vika & Linda Bull, but I'm not sure as the voices don't really sound like them at all. I can't find any info to say who they actually were.

  • Dear Paul Kelly, this song is fantastic. I believe all of your songs are fantastic! Thank you so much for all the great music...keep it comin'...Love JB

  • Great Aussie Song

  • Go the XD Ford Falcon cab...Go the 80's

  • Its an XE, and its a Fairmont

  • The video was made in Sydney

  • I didn't realise there are two versions of this clip - see v=QxZEh0LEMSE for the other version. Esp at 2.18 when in the other clip a robber gives PK a handful of fifties as he gets out of the cab and PK grins happily
