Wow, Toumani in my opinion one of the greatest musicians in the world and Danny Thompson, who is also a real great (he played with John Martyn, Joe Strummer and loads of people) together...? This is a wonderful clip. Thanks for posting!
Jeff Bedony of Mandinka Magic in Oregon USA made my kora. It is amazing & easy to tune & change strings.Maybe the best kora on the planet. Custom made with beautiful friction tuning pegs. Big, full , rich sound. Expensive but well worth it.
This man is a genius. When I'm listening to his music I stop thinking about problems, about the 24000 people who die every day of hunger I think this man opens a door to heaven, he creates a world where everybody can find a shelter.
kora is the soul of AFRICA !!! No music instrument sounds like KORA !!! How beautiful is this ... this is music to my ears that brings tears to my eyes ...and no word can express what i feel ...MAMA AFRICA, the motherland-of-our-fathers i miss you !!!!!
I am an Indian drummer and totally agree with you! What a touching comment! I visited Kenya this March and bought some instruments. They were souvenirs for tourists but the sound is so sweet I tell you! I fell in love with African music and instruments ever since! regards.
thank you carlos... i loooove drums very much ...i have 2 african djembe and 1 djun djun in my house...i joined a meetup group in new york for drumming ,
hoping to jam with people like you from different part of the world and different culture... WE ARE BEAUTIFUL WHEN WE COME TOGETHER WITH OUR DIFFERENCES !!!
where do you live and what is your country of origine ???
My friend I am from India, my name is Krishnaraj and I play the Tabla. Africa and India have so many similarities and are so close in their cultures and beauty is what we behold when we come together in harmony. I was performing in Kenya this March and hope to perform with you some day! I dream to have an African one-stringed violin! Please do see my 3 videos by clicking my user name. Thanks! peace.
THE african one string violin : i know some variation of it ; we have the RITI in my country SENEGAL used by the ethnic group known as THE PEULS they are scattered all throughout africa...we also have the NGONI in MALI ...i have a kora and a talking drum (TAMA)
I tell you my friend...these one-stringed fiddles have driven me to madness! I am so fascinated with them that I crave to have one! West Africa has a stunning collection and there have been books written on the same!

Ancestral.
By the way, there is a Youtube video clip " Ganvie" by 'fransoisejoelambert' that has lovely music in the closing titles- Sounds like Kora to me, but I don't know..... Can ANYONE *PLEASE* let me know what/ who it is???
toumani diabate...you are the best. you are a blessing from the Creator. thank you for being the vehicle for the grace of God. and thank God for giving us you.
Simply awesome! My family took me to Senegal in 1980 and my father bought me a kora but we had no idea how to play it. It has just been sitting in my family's house since 1980 and now I am encouraged to get lessons. I never knew how to play it. We just looked at it!! I've heard kora music for years but yours is simply bliss! Thank you!!
teclo do Brasil, you play incredible, i´m making site whith string music from all the world, programing internet happening, wish you likeit! come and enjoy, you´re IN!
Danny Thomson seemed a little low in the mix to my ears. Love Toumani Diabate though - just makes me think of an African dusk, the smell of dust, the freshness of the night air, a day well spent. Contentment.
At 1:32 the intro to Mr. Tompson and following flow is not to be missed.
