Shell has been allowed to start drilling another well in gulf today, but what has me worried,is the comment that was made by the shell rep. He was asked, will this help bring down gas pricess? He said, any time you increase the oil in the markets,it affects Prices! Heres our problem, America is screaming for our country to Drill her own reserves for Americas personal usage,You have heard the term drill baby drill. Well what good is it, if its not for Americas own personal usage,AmericaforAmerica!
Again, our leaders are talking in semantics, when they say drill here;drill now,so wecan have cheaper gas prices. What they are really saying is,drill here, andwe will place the oil on the world market,so low gas prices willcome down, via international control. They are fooling us with these semantics. If America Drills For America,WE NEED TO KEEP IT FOR AMERICA,NOT FOR THE WORLD MARKETS.America needs to getout of the worlds crap,Like we did in 1776,The world fled EU,and found Opportunities in America
You are wrong. Do some research into what products manufactured are dependent upon oil. Plastics, used for medical purposes as well as for food containers and construction, use oil based chemicals in their manufacturing. There will never be a "green" alternative for oil as long as humanity has a need for electricity, transportation, manufacturing or any other from long list of uses.
You have bought into the green movement which is a farst.
Oil companies only ones profitting? Ask the residents (workers) of New Orleans if BP was the only one profitting. Now that the rigs are shut down, and they are out of work...where are the solar panel plants? Where is the windmill construction? Truth is, if they were a viable source of energy, investors would be racing to get it done...they are not...and now that the spill is capped and the leaked oil is no where to be found, you sir have this silly video on youtube as a witness against you.
I doubt it; oil drives industry and is key to all elements of commerce, distribution, public transport, domestic energy useage and so on. Oil is intrinsic to every element of life in the 'develpoed world'. I agree we need to use less, however.
Over here I have written letters until I'm sick. The biggest influences on our lives are the politicians, the press and the supermarkets. Isn't it time they worked together to rid the world of plastic?
Recent events prove major powers will go to war for oil. And it'll happen again. This is the oil age, after all. When the oil diminishes, that's when the big one'll likely come, because when the oil runs out, we all go back in time. This is where the Third World has all the advantages in having never relied on "necesities" like cars, domestic flights and aircon.
I respect your opinion, but you can't run cars on wind and you can't fly airlines on steam.
this is not the biggest oil spill in american history. why should you be shocked by anything this charlatan says?? bp did have a safety plan. ??? techtonic plates are thinner in the water. your theory about green??? hahha laughable, more oil means more than 3 cents less per gallon. this one well can boost us production by 20% . abiotic oil is a reality , oil is not evil. your green technology's if real cannot compete or they would be here already. (they are)
That disaster could have happened to anyone drilling there and in fact is likely to happen again given the deliberate lax controls employed there.
Sure BP will pay up and pay out and clean up every last drop of spillage. BP have already stated
But a HUGE portion of blame lays equally if not more so, on the shoulders of the US government.
If those affected don't like it, well, bad luck, because Such procedures were sanctioned and encouraged by the US government and continue to be by Obama.
1. just a month before the disaster YOUR government, the US government, had given BP a health and safety award for that rig.
2. Dick Cheney under the Bush administration helped to block a 2002/03 bill that would have required the use of automatic acoustic switches to activate a blowout preventer which would have sealed off the well head. The Bush admin wanted to make it easier for everyone to drill.
Obama in his inauguration spoke of the need to 'continue and expand Gulf drilling'
I am not against oil drilling, in fact I am very much for drilling on our own turf for it. However, what you pointed out about the automatic anti-blowout switch/valve is correct. BTW - they have to be on a wellhead on the rigs in the North sea or the rig doesn't operate. Duh - silly fucking American politicians. That valve costs a mere $500K compared to a multi-billion dollar oil spill/clean up.
The government had and has a major role in the damage being done to people. Not the oil slick. I mean, the Obama administration has caused havoc. They have worsened an economy; they have shrunk the private sector. That means there's less opportunity for people. So this regime has had a major role in damage being done to people, but rather than being held to account, they act like they're on our side.
..... All of a sudden, "Obama's on our side!" Obama is the single greatest threat the country has, not BP. You got a six-month moratorium on oil drilling everywhere in this country, offshore. This gonna devastate the Gulf Coast economy. One hundred and twenty thousand jobs are at stake here
Nearly 31 years ago, on July 15, 1979, President Jimmy Carter told the American people from the Oval Office: 'Energy will be the immediate test of our ability to unite this nation, and it can also be the standard around which we rally. On the battlefield of energy we can win for our nation a new confidence, and we can seize control again of our common destiny.'
Speaking of Jimmy Carter, in 1977, the Department of Energy was created by Jimmy Carter. Do you realize that's how recent it is? Thirty-three years ago. And what was the purpose of the Department of Energy? It was to end the US dependence on foreign sources of oil and transition us to renewable energy sources. Thirty-three years ago.
What has happened? What has happened to all the money that's been flushed down that hole over the last 33 years? For 33 years we were working on renewable energy, reducing our dependence on foreign oil. It's been 33 years. The point is what did we get for it? The Department of Energy's budget for 2010 is $26.4 billion. And what do we have? We have Energy Star appliances and we got curlicue little light bulbs, $26.4 billion this year
President Obama either badly misunderstood the scope of the calamity, or he deliberately downgraded threat assessments so as not to upset the grand-scale ambitions of his administration. Perhaps it was a combination of both. By late May the political backlash was bipartisan, the most memorable outburst when former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville blew his top on Good Morning America. Responding to George Stephanopoulos, Carville excoriated the president
Fucking idiot bp didn't staff the rig an american company did, the devices thtat failed were american the people that should have checked safety didin't check where amereican the company that owned the rig american fuck bp just put the money in
Well what nut bags wanted the oil wells so fare out that they could not be seen from land????? Well dont look for the rigs now just look down at your feet and their be oil here boys and girls. Funny how all this time they have been out their 1000's of them and now every body got something to say but I bet youll put your car away now wont ya. O and here's the kicker you would think people act like BP blew it up for news media. Where is the media over the 11 men lost O their not coal miners!!!!!
clean energy is a joke m8. Windmills would take up far to much space and require alot of money to build not to mention maintenance costs. Bio fuels have some promise but are still extremely limited because of the fact they require valuable farm land so u got to ask yourself what is more important to you food in your belly or fuel for ure vehicle? Our best bet it is to use clean coal tech to replace oil because the us has plenty of coal to last a very long time.
OFC thats not even counting the fact that we need oil to make plastics some rubbers and medications. You have such a problem with oil companies making money but let me ask you this do you think converting to alt energies like bio fuel and solar will mean free energy and no one will profit ? Surely you must realize energy is the most lucrative biz in the world it doesnt matter what the source of the energy is somebody somewhere is going to get rich from it.
@DarkBioCloud I have no problem with a "little" profit but oil companies make these profits while they screw us... they are no better than the banking industries... I'm sure there will be similar things with the "green energy" companies but that isn't my main point in this video...
@DarkBioCloud First off... there is no such thing as clean coal... its a myth... second, the maintenance on wind, solar, and other green energies won't be any more than oil and coal burning sources...
@ChangedTheWorldToday Clean coal is about recycling smoke kinda like cars do with gas. Sure it wont be 100% clean but it doesnt need to be. All of the gases produced by burning coal/oil occur in nature naturally via natural sources that means nature has a use for them because everything in nature is linked. The answer is simple find the counter to co2 and off set the co2 produced from burning coal. Plants are the answer because they breath co2 and their waste is oxygen. Think about it m8.
@DarkBioCloud Co2 isnt the only byproduct... there is Carbon Monoxide too... along with many other chemicals... in the process... sure nature can deal with these but not before killing off the world's life... and I will give you this... Clean coal is better than nothing... but its not much...
@ChangedTheWorldToday yeah I know co2 isnt the only byproduct i was just using it as the example because youtube restricts the length of posts. My point was if we learn to work with nature instead of trying to around it we can use coal oil etc... without fear of killing the planet or the life on it. The answer is simple every car build plant a tree somewhere on the planet every motorcycle built plant a bush every factory build plant 20 trees every power plant build plant 100 trees.
@DarkBioCloud I like this idea... that is a good start... but we still have to strive for cleaner energy every day... but even more important, reduce use of energy....
@ChangedTheWorldToday reducing energy use is not the answer because that would mean taking away freedom from people to live the life style of their choosing. Freedom is the single most important thing we have if we have to give up our freedom to save the planet then we might as well send all the nukes we got to the center of the earth and hit the button because it's much better to die free than live in subjugation.
@DarkBioCloud I don't mean to suggest taking the ability to use energy away from people... I am suggesting that WE as people make a decision to use less and / or more efficiently... this wouldn't be taking any freedoms away... it would be US being more responsible... no forcing involved...
@ChangedTheWorldToday that's not how things work though. an energy policy is using force of government to take away choice. these resources are here to use, and there is no way we could use them all in thousands of years even if we tried harder.
@ChangedTheWorldToday maintenance cost is more than just money. Just look at how much freedom people have lost because of the green movement. Just think about it we have the EPA ordering congress around when the congress should be the ones dishing out the orders to the EPA. Also the money cost would be greater because enough windmills to produce the same amount of energy as one coal power plant would have to span hundreds of acres while the coal plan only needs a 45 acres at most.
@DarkBioCloud that is true... but there are still millions of unused acres that could be used... out at sea also... windmills arent the only answer... solar power is highly effective and the technology is incredible already....
@ChangedTheWorldToday As i said above solar panel are not practical for most people and unless there is a major break through solar panels will never be used by the majority of the population because of the costs and the space thats not even getting into the sheer amount of batteries needed. You want people to accept clean energy then ure going to have to find something that equal or better than oil/gas/coal. Sorry but alt energy like solar and wind are no where near equal much less better.
@DarkBioCloud oh and in the beginning, oil and gas energy was hugely expensive too... as was any electricity... but now its common place... its all about the initial investment. Plus this isnt a matter of mereley money.... its about the long term survival or our species... and the planet...
@ChangedTheWorldToday ure also going to need to pay hundreds if not thousands of highly skilled workers to maintain those massive windmill farms. We dont need to drill off the coast we can drill on shore in the USA and have plenty of oil for all our needs. I firm believer in Abiogenic oil which can be found just about anywhere if you drill deep enough. Many say BP was tapped into a Abiogenic oil vein with DWH. If that well was on shore we would closed by now cuz working on land is much easier.
@ChangedTheWorldToday heh slightly more expensive ? Thats colossal understatement. I just looked up the cost for enough solar panels to get rid of my electric bill and I would have to spend more on the solar panels than I payed for my house. Not to mention i have to use up about 1/4 of my yard for the solar panels because the roof doesn't have enough surface area for all of the panels. Until a solar panel is invented that is practical for everyday use its nothing but a pie in the sky idea.
@DarkBioCloud of course its expensive now... because there is still no demand for it.... once it becomes common place, everyone will have it cheap... just like computers... 20 years ago barely anyone could afford a computer in their home... now, almost everyone has one cheap... its all about demand! The more its used, the smaller and more efficient they get... then soon, they will be built into new homes and not even be noticed by regular folk
Watch the Zeitgeist movement videos. All the answers are there to move away from our dependancy on oil. We need to move onto the next phase of civilization. we shouldve 100 years ago but havent because of companies like this that need to profit even when they fuck everything up they will still make money off of this,.
<<<<------click austinartwar to view. I made anti Bp clips . I need the community's support. Make your own if you have the time and video post a reply.
It would take a long time to explain how a well is drilled. This one was done wrong for a reason. BP has been pushing carbon tax for years. If you made a product that was worth about .50 cents to .70 cents a gallon. (Raw oil) and because of the big bad gov and taxs now you have to charge $3 a gallon for the same product. Would you be for it? Go green is a con-job! You have been lied to about the hole thing..Look into the stock traides, carbon taxs and where they will be paid.
@cavanaugh2440 well, I work in construction and I am very familiar with shortcuts when the pressure is on and the bottom line is threatened... so its no surprise to me... and as far as the breakdown of the gas prices... I am familiar somewhat with the amount of tax... but look at the facts... how much are companies like BP making.... BILLIONS.... and they make money when everyone else is losing money... why? becuase they sell a product we can't live without...
Man It's getting old seeing that lame apology over and over. aren't they suppose to be spending money on cleaning up the oil and not to clean up their reputation :(
@austinartwar unfortunately that will probably be the case, they will spend more to make sure they dont lose market share than clean up... and will probably only put in minimum effort on the actual clean up... but they will have some one announce that they are doing everything they can...
are you kidding 60 min? Wrong blinds in the BOP. Run the mud out of the hole before setting the plug. I'm not just talking out my ass 10 years in the oil fields in west Oklahoma. We (the co. I work for) own 30% of the drilling mud used in the gulf, TX, LA, and OK. This was done for a reason no mistake... The rig asked PB three times about the protocall. PB told them to do it thats what happened.. look at the stock trades. look who owns BP.. Dont believe the TV...
They wouldn't even be drilling so far out if it weren't for the enviro wacks! If this were closer to shore it wouldn't have been any where near this catostrophic! Thanks wacko's!!!
@luvemliam I dont think thats true... there are plenty of rigs close to shore too... its all about where the big pockets are... but you are right that envirowacks as you put it, have some influence in the areas we can drill...
oh the oil, the birds, the fish, the planet noo!!! The $ is where to look. PB is 40% owned by financial institutions, Goldman Sachs sold 4.7 million shares, BP CEO T. Hayward sold 1.4 million shares just before the spill. Globle warming didn't work but this will. Oil Co. Tax, WellHead Tax, Pump Tax, and the jewl Carbon Tax. all comming to a pump near you. $7 gallon gas. Find out why the BOP failed on the rig. Why pull mud out of the hole before the plug was set.
Clown, look at the oil, look at the wildlife, oh the planet! Look at the money!. 40% of BP is owned by financial institutions... World Bank!!! Goldman Sachs sold 4.7 million of its 6 million shares just two weeks before the spill. BP CEO Tony Hayward sold 1.4 million of his own shares... Globel warming didnt work for cap-and-tax but this sure will. Oil co. tax, well head tax, pump tax, and the jewl CARBON TAX..... Research why it happened, what went wrong on the rig and why.
@cavanaugh2440 BP ordered the companies to keep drilling even though safety measures were failing... why?... because they were behind schedule and it was eating at their profits... there is a great 60 minutes special on this....
everyday citizens should blow up some more wells...no, im not joking...we need to be waging war on these consolidators of power. this aint star wars bitch !! Its The
United staes of america,,im gonna clean ur nigger clock clean ten years from now when secret service slacks off bitch.. Nobody lies to me with some nigger pimp type shit and then laughs and says sike... ill fuck ur ass up goddamnit think im playing?.watch ur back hawaaiian bitch !!!
this is all happened because Obama was paid off by the bilderburgers to keep hemp illegal, which contains no THC!! In other words, you dont have to legalize marijuana to legalize hemp..after you saw this then you shouldve known he was going to say drill baby drill next... I hope the dumb nigger doesnt think he will get reelected aftert this..ahh , fcuk no u wont get my vote bitch!!!
Alternative energy is the future. Best believe many Americans will be getting their cars and vehicles converted to alternative fuel sources. I wouldn't be supprised if commercials started popping up on regular television next week. Alternative energy is the future. Yeah we will need oil but we won't need it as much. This Crisis just caused all oil companies to have more competition from other alternative fuel companies and energies. Watch and see. Oil industry is about have its last run
@jackhammer250 I dont think it will happen that fast... but its just another event in the chain of events leading to the elimination of oil use... (probably in hundreds of years from now)
You are passionate about this! Your heart speaks! We need more such heart work in the world!
AND the computer and video camera you used to produce this video came from fossil fuels - directly as plastics and indirectly as the coal or oil burned to provide the electricity - OIL - COAL - NATURAL GAS - they're cheap and we're all hooked. Even the ones of us with large and breaking hearts.
Breathe IN the muck, disaster, sadness, & destruction
@ChangedTheWorldToday - those two lines are kind of a distillation of what the Buddhist Nun Pema Chodron calls TONGLEN practice - a powerful practice to be sure.
Obama supports drilling because we need oil. Clean energy only goes so far. And by the way, do not act like "green" power is 100% safe either. What does "fully green" even mean? I say impossible. Our country is just too large to pull it off. I think you have the right idea, but it is such a lofty goal. We need to be greener, each and every year. Environmental progress should be our goal, not getting off oil.
The blame goes to BP (british), Transocean (swiss), and Halliburton (from houston and dubai), as well as former and current people in MMS. Look up the report by current Inspector General of the US Earl Devaney in 2008. He concluded back then that the Minerals Management Service had a "a culture of ethical failure" which means it is tough to blame Obama for the oil spill. We need federal regulation, and BP must understand. It is coming like a freight train.
@schupy81 Yes, now that the report is out... it appears that BP is 100% financially responsible and they were enabled to violate the safety protocols and standard reviews due to many corrupt or unethically acting persons in all those groups you mentioned. Even MMS... they were getting "gifts" from them...
@schupy81 I understand why Obama supports oil... but I don't think green energy is a lofty goal... I think that we should easily be able to go completely green, once the technology is accessible and cheap... which, if you go by the way the computer industry makes advances, should be in 20 years. Now it will probably take much longer for third world countries to follow suit but it can happen...
@PHILLYDEMOCRAT Bush gave them the contract, so what does that mean, Bush has nothing to do with this, Big Brother, likes to put there hands in our pockets when we get our pay checks, but oversight on the Oil Rigs was weak and has been long before Bush was president, I am not saying maybe he should have looked into it or any other president for that matter, but we need to worry about stopping this thing. As of last night, TOP KILL HAD FAILED TOO. WE MAY NEVER RECOVER FROM THIS....
While I know I'm going to get a lot of heat for this. I'm just wana be honest and say, as long as it screw up your beaches and your wild life. I'm perfectly alright with the oil leak. And here I'll even add a smiling face to prove it. :)
So who am I? Just another fool who jumped on the band wagon, to live the American dream. Etc etc
The sun emits energy and we are too controlled by oil and coal to see it. Its plenty for all of us here at home and abroad. CSP and photovoltaic are great.
Amory Lovins is a great guy he has all the details . Time to USE it has come.
The basic precation of Acoustic alarm which Cheney managed to prevent from being a requirement here in the US , which is widely used elsewhere, is the reason for this spills magitude.
Basic greed vs safety.
The oil lobby is strong . Very strong. But very very very wrong.
We are on the path to mass devastation due to the fact they control politicians .
Actually most people still support drill baby drill politics. I noticed our news media is really downplaying this, including alleging most of it will "evaporate". BP lied and most geophysicists say double if not quadruple the amount is actually spilling. BP also sprayed the oil with dispersant sooo most of it went under the water and will continue to poison our ecosystem for years to come. According to the government-OUT OF SIGHT is OUT OF MIND and does not exist.
solar, wind, thermo tidal curents, wave action..change or die..!!!! can you name one thing that you own that isn't associated with oil..? anybody have something that you are sure that doesn't have oil strings attached??
I think what needs to happen is that for just four years we have a member of the green party as president. No longer though, because our economy and civil rights would go down the toilet.
@planeferg too late... they HAVE taken my job away from me... I am a victim of this economy already... shit happens... we need to change with the times...
Yes, you're completely wrong. You claim that BP had no safety measures in place to prevent spills or protect their workers....that's total nonsense. There are workplace deaths and accidents in every major industry every year. Do you believe this is proof that there are no regulations or safety programs in the American workplace? Ever heard of OSHA?
The oil will be drilled regardless. It's just a matter of whether we do it or someone else who doesn't even try to be enviroment friendly.
@ChangedTheWorldToday Thre investigation found that there were violations...that's a far cry from not having any safety measures.
More importantly China, Cuba, and others are drilling in the Gulf with no complaints from the Greenies. So the left isn't really trying stop drilling, they're just trying to stop us from doing it. If they really cared about the environment they would want us to do it since we do listen to all their nutty demands.
@kazeet456 it found not only violations but willful disregard for their own safety precautions... they knowingly operated with their safety measures disabled!
Screw clean energy where is the money in free energy!!! this wont go we need to keep our filthy rich people filthy rich and their money is in the oil and arms industries so fek it all Burn all the forests poison the oceans dry out all the wet lands and flood the deserts we don't wanna do a half assed job of leaving our kids a half toxic world we need 100% toxic earth when we're done
sorry had to be serious when we have idiots calling the shots
This dude is right on. Palin coined the term "drill baby drill" and Obama has the same viewpoint. Bush started the bailout process and Obama carried it out. Both parties have an IDENTICAL Liberal / interventionist foreign policy and a Liberal / Keynesian fiscal policy. There aren't 2 parties, there are only Corporatists.
Bush, Obama, Palin, Pelosi, Cheney, etc are all playing for the same team and the majority of Americans are too caught up in the propaganda to see through the smokescreen.
energy could be free for the world without useing oil. Nicola Tesla invented free enerygy in the 1930s. jp morgan aka greedy evil bastard had him black balled.
@itsthatshit Nicola Tesla didnt invent free energy.... he THOUGHT he invented perpetual energy but its a fallacy... there is no such thing. He was brilliant but not correct
Jewish bank financing this again!!!!!! Look to BP board and check members/connections. They cause misery to millions and destroy lives for money. But, I do understand that US Gvt regulators had plenty cocaine, prostitutes and bribes to keep Americans off their back. Good old BP and American way of life. Now they got same as Exxon Alaska spill every 4 days in the Gulf. Lies all the way/oil company denial before this. Time will tell if people care/do something.

this dude is a fucking idiot!!!!!!!!!!! what about BP being the largest contributor to obama??!! no mention of that huh??? this dude is a fucking dumbass you really need to do a little research.....you are so very wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@whiteboy6740 show me the facts... BP was Obama's biggest contributor??? Really??? And so what if they were??? does this change the facts of this argument?
@TheDiscuit Where did you get that Pfizer was the largest contributor to Obama, Pfizer is a very conservative company, it seems odd that would happen...I will find out though, I work for them...." Working Together to Make the World A Healthy Place"... GO BIG PHMAR! WE KEEP AMERICA GOING...LONGER, HAPPIER LIVES.
@whiteboy6740 Actually Obamas largest contributor was Pfizer.. OPEC is the largest contributor for the RNC.. Your not entitled to your own facts moron...
The US troops killed thousands of innocent people there (collateral murder they say> BLOOD of OIL
And now guess what? "Nature/God" Will punish the USA starting in the oil spill, then, its just a matter of time before it all ends for the greatest terrorist nation in the World: USA.
@22700p interesting viewpoint... While I don't think our government is without their own terrorist actions, I think this statement is a little exaggerated... Not sure I agree with the wrath of Nature/God argument either... but Karma is a bitch...
You can bet your ass that oil will continue to fuel America's vehicles for many generations to come and Alaska will get milked eventually, but only when it is convenient for the elite.
You seem like an intelligent man, so I doubt that you believe the collective/global military industrial complex will spend sufficient money to "green" their fleets of vehicles. That would be absurdly expensive and just the U.S. military alone has a massive thirst for oil. The age of oil isn't over by a long shot. Fuel efficiency is one thing, but a full greening of energy could take over a century, with a world war maybe even longer.
@AllahConsciousness While I doubt the military will EVER follow the green path, I do believe the rest of government will eventually, with enough pressure from the masses...
Powerful people who have alot to gain from peak oil trends don't want American drilling to expand. This is simply because when more product is available for sale, the prices naturally go down. They want to suck every last drop from the rigs they have now before they move on. I suspect a black ops diving team had their way with the rig. Have fun paying an arm and a leg to get around.
@AllahConsciousness I do believe that there may be some truth to that but don't be fooled... if there is more available, the price won't come down that much.
I think you are missing the point.... how can we NOT use oil unless the alternatives are out there and widely available? I would pay more to not use oil but in the long run green energy would be cheaper anyway.
Youre wrong. You speak in generalities. You have very little experience in this area and cite resources (when you rarely give us some) that are not credible. You sit there and blast oil and its future use, yet like most, you dont even realize that the equipment you are using and all the items in your backdrop, either require petrolium to manufacture or need petrolium or coal to function. You amoung many are not even realistic sir!
@luvemliam Well of course I speak in generalities, I am not involved in the field, however, I DO give the sources and they are pretty credible... if you look below there are several stories attached in the underbar. If you have sources that prove otherwise, show me. I am not opposed to seeing another point of view. I also realize that I use petroleum products AND I drive a car... the irony is not lost on me... but its time to change that... IT IS REALISTIC in the future.
@ChangedTheWorldToday@ChangedTheWorldToday Its not realistic. We are being limited to endless resources of our own oil by dems. And yes I say this during the oil leak in the gulf. You don't think there are accidents waiting to happen with wind turbines? What about the poor chinese lady who's paid the equiv of pennies a week to manufacture ineffective solar panels?
@luvemliam I fail to see how any wind turbine accident could be as bad as even the most minor of oil spills... even if it blew up!
and I'm not sure what you mean about the old lady making panels in China... she has a job... what is wrong? the environment or the low wages? You don't need much to live on in China...
@ChangedTheWorldToday@ChangedTheWorldToday Too many eggs in our"green basket" too soon, we have found that the turbines are not lasting as long as initially thought and replacement parts are almost nonexistent. This is also the first time I have ever heard a liberal say its ok for a person to be overworked, underpaid and mistreated. very odd!
@luvemliam that is why we need to invest more in this technology...
and I didnt say that it was OK for a person to be overworked, underpaid and mistreated.... I simply said she has a job... show me the proof that she is overworked, underpaid and mistreated.... just because those conditions exist in other areas, this doesn't have any bearing on this argument.
you could look for "the young turks" here on YouTube. they have sources and video about this. they even have the video of different republicans and like 1 democrat that support of drill drilling and criticizing obama for not pushing even more drilling.2030 is a responsible goal.i know some people who actually get money from the electric company instead of a bill they get a check bc they do soler pannles and it payed of for them in 5-10 years literally. imagine that. and ya shes an idiot.
the clean energy dont nearly as much lobbyist paying millions to the these crooks like the oil companies do, to much money in oil right now they are making from us, ur right.
@ChangedTheWorldToday yea we need that to wake the masses up, but as long as we have these lobbyist in the white house it looks almost immposible for clean enery, well hopefully these 2(chevy volt and leaf not sure the car maker) new cars coming out this year will open up the door for electric cars. it will be intersting u have to plug them in for now, they say its an equivelnt to 9cents a gallon they run up to 90mph but need recharging every 100miles, but hey thats a start.
@pete226 its funny how the oil companies have so much money to spend on lobbyists when they keep justifying the cost of oil to us and raising it. Let them keep raising it and we will have the incentive to seek clean energy even more. These electric cars are a good start... it'll be several years before we can fully integrate them though... but ONE DAY.....
@cloogerdude He looks like his eyes are wide open like he is awake to reality. Why do all these conservatives stick there head in the sand? It's like they have no soul and don't care about the environment or a place for our grandchildren to live.
tell that to spain, the largest cap and trader has 20 percent unemployment! Cap and trade always cuts growth, how could taxes and regulation increase prosperity?
@aweiss First off, Amercia DOES drill its natural resources... second... most socialist states have a level of corruption such that the benefits go to the rich and in power and do not trickle down any more than they do here... Third.... regulation hurting prosperity? Maybe the prosperity of individual companies but not the general population.
regulation slows productivity which inherently decreases prosperity. when the nation produces less and spends more to regulate to produce it less is produced at more effort
How can someone who sees this nation crying out for jobs and state tax revenues deny states the right to drill themselves?
@aweiss regulation DOES slow productivity... I agree HOWEVER, that is the price to pay for being responsible. And we DO drill off our coasts... this oil rig was off our coast as ONE example...
Your question is a very good one... it is VERY hard to balance job creation and state tax revenue with this responsible attitude towards oil... but we have to see beyond the immediate financial problems and see the big picture... the environment... Green energy investments could ease both these issues
@ChangedTheWorldToday that is a more agreeable perspective than most but I must ask you
if we drill how does that stifle green investment. Investment will be done either way and if we have a larger GDP don't we have more to spend on that, also, cant we do both?
@aweiss I think its not only possible but necessary to continue using oil until we are fully green... but once we are green... whats the point in using oil? it will not only be cleaner but also cheaper to use green energy! And in the far future, GDP means nothing if we don't have a clean earth to live on...
@aweiss Oh... and to address your specific question, we as a people are content using oil if it isn't too expensive... we have no motivation to change until we are forced to. If oil was more expensive or less available (same thing really)... people tend to get more concerned with green energy and that stimulates companies thinking about green energy. Until there is a bigger demand for green energy, we as a nation won't see development fast enough.
You are not at all wrong, greed, incompetence and corruption are all rampant in this country, and it is invariably the same culture of idiots that produce these types of catastrophes, all in a days work. Destroying the earth has always been the agenda for the hobgoblins thats why they will do anything instead of the right thing. Read "In search of enemies" "those found destroying the earth will be destroyed" something to look forward too.
Don't leave the passenger trains out. When the US had good passenger rail service we exported oil. Oil and car companys are working hard to keep passenger rail in this country in the past. Yet, the poor rail service we have is wildly popular. Trains also don't have to use oil at all. They can be electric.
@usualsuspect54 I wish it were that simple... unfortunately, we need clean energy as an option before we cut oil out. I would be willing to pay MORE for clean energy if it was readily available and cut out oil... but it just hasnt become widespread yet. It will take oil prices skyrocketing again to motivate the clean energy pioneers...

"Green" energy! Create more jobs than oil?
I doubt it; oil drives industry and is key to all elements of commerce, distribution, public transport, domestic energy useage and so on. Oil is intrinsic to every element of life in the 'develpoed world'. I agree we need to use less, however.
Over here I have written letters until I'm sick. The biggest influences on our lives are the politicians, the press and the supermarkets. Isn't it time they worked together to rid the world of plastic?
timpovikings 1 year ago
Recent events prove major powers will go to war for oil. And it'll happen again. This is the oil age, after all. When the oil diminishes, that's when the big one'll likely come, because when the oil runs out, we all go back in time. This is where the Third World has all the advantages in having never relied on "necesities" like cars, domestic flights and aircon.
I respect your opinion, but you can't run cars on wind and you can't fly airlines on steam.
With oil comes immense risk.
timpovikings 1 year ago
this is not the biggest oil spill in american history. why should you be shocked by anything this charlatan says?? bp did have a safety plan. ??? techtonic plates are thinner in the water. your theory about green??? hahha laughable, more oil means more than 3 cents less per gallon. this one well can boost us production by 20% . abiotic oil is a reality , oil is not evil. your green technology's if real cannot compete or they would be here already.

If those affected don't like it, well, bad luck, because Such procedures were sanctioned and encouraged by the US government and continue to be by Obama.
acorntechnique 1 year ago
wait up pal..
1. just a month before the disaster YOUR government, the US government, had given BP a health and safety award for that rig.
2. Dick Cheney under the Bush administration helped to block a 2002/03 bill that would have required the use of automatic acoustic switches to activate a blowout preventer which would have sealed off the well head. The Bush admin wanted to make it easier for everyone to drill.
Obama in his inauguration spoke of the need to 'continue and expand Gulf drilling'
acorntechnique 1 year ago
@acorntechnique

On the battlefield of energy we can win for our nation a new confidence, and we can seize control again of our common destiny.'
usagirlfriend 1 year ago
Speaking of Jimmy Carter, in 1977, the Department of Energy was created by Jimmy Carter. Do you realize that's how recent it is? Thirty-three years ago. And what was the purpose of the Department of Energy? It was to end the US dependence on foreign sources of oil and transition us to renewable energy sources. Thirty-three years ago.
usagirlfriend 1 year ago
What has happened? What has happened to all the money that's been flushed down that hole over the last 33 years? For 33 years we were working on renewable energy, reducing our dependence on foreign oil. It's been 33 years. The point is what did we get for it? The Department of Energy's budget for 2010 is $26.4 billion. And what do we have? We have Energy Star appliances and we got curlicue little light bulbs, $26.4 billion this year
usagirlfriend 1 year ago
President Obama either badly misunderstood the scope of the calamity, or he deliberately downgraded threat assessments so as not to upset the grand-scale ambitions of his administration. Perhaps it was a combination of both. By late May the political backlash was bipartisan, the most memorable outburst when former Bill Clinton strategist James Carville blew his top on Good Morning America. Responding to George Stephanopoulos, Carville excoriated the president

clean energy is a joke m8.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
OFC thats not even counting the fact that we need oil to make plastics some rubbers and medications. You have such a problem with oil companies making money but let me ask you this do you think converting to alt energies like bio fuel and solar will mean free energy and no one will profit ? Surely you must realize energy is the most lucrative biz in the world it doesnt matter what the source of the energy is somebody somewhere is going to get rich from it.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud I have no problem with a "little" profit but oil companies make these profits while they screw us... they are no better than the banking industries... I'm sure there will be similar things with the "green energy" companies but that isn't my main point in this video...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud First off... there is no such thing as clean coal... its a myth... second, the maintenance on wind, solar, and other green energies won't be any more than oil and coal burning sources...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday Clean coal is about recycling smoke kinda like cars do with gas. Sure it wont be 100% clean but it doesnt need to be. All of the gases produced by burning coal/oil occur in nature naturally via natural sources that means nature has a use for them because everything in nature is linked. The answer is simple find the counter to co2 and off set the co2 produced from burning coal. Plants are the answer because they breath co2 and their waste is oxygen. Think about it m8.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud Co2 isnt the only byproduct... there is Carbon Monoxide too... along with many other chemicals... in the process... sure nature can deal with these but not before killing off the world's life... and I will give you this... Clean coal is better than nothing... but its not much...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday yeah I know co2 isnt the only byproduct i was just using it as the example because youtube restricts the length of posts. My point was if we learn to work with nature instead of trying to around it we can use coal oil etc... without fear of killing the planet or the life on it. The answer is simple every car build plant a tree somewhere on the planet every motorcycle built plant a bush every factory build plant 20 trees every power plant build plant 100 trees.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud I like this idea... that is a good start... but we still have to strive for cleaner energy every day... but even more important, reduce use of energy....
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday reducing energy use is not the answer because that would mean taking away freedom from people to live the life style of their choosing. Freedom is the single most important thing we have if we have to give up our freedom to save the planet then we might as well send all the nukes we got to the center of the earth and hit the button because it's much better to die free than live in subjugation.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud I don't mean to suggest taking the ability to use energy away from people... I am suggesting that WE as people make a decision to use less and / or more efficiently... this wouldn't be taking any freedoms away... it would be US being more responsible... no forcing involved...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday that's not how things work though. an energy policy is using force of government to take away choice. these resources are here to use, and there is no way we could use them all in thousands of years even if we tried harder.
circusboy90210 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday maintenance cost is more than just money. Just look at how much freedom people have lost because of the green movement. Just think about it we have the EPA ordering congress around when the congress should be the ones dishing out the orders to the EPA. Also the money cost would be greater because enough windmills to produce the same amount of energy as one coal power plant would have to span hundreds of acres while the coal plan only needs a 45 acres at most.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud that is true... but there are still millions of unused acres that could be used... out at sea also... windmills arent the only answer... solar power is highly effective and the technology is incredible already....
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday As i said above solar panel are not practical for most people and unless there is a major break through solar panels will never be used by the majority of the population because of the costs and the space thats not even getting into the sheer amount of batteries needed. You want people to accept clean energy then ure going to have to find something that equal or better than oil/gas/coal. Sorry but alt energy like solar and wind are no where near equal much less better.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud oh and in the beginning, oil and gas energy was hugely expensive too... as was any electricity... but now its common place... its all about the initial investment. Plus this isnt a matter of mereley money.... its about the long term survival or our species... and the planet...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday ure also going to need to pay hundreds if not thousands of highly skilled workers to maintain those massive windmill farms. We dont need to drill off the coast we can drill on shore in the USA and have plenty of oil for all our needs. I firm believer in Abiogenic oil which can be found just about anywhere if you drill deep enough. Many say BP was tapped into a Abiogenic oil vein with DWH. If that well was on shore we would closed by now cuz working on land is much easier.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud solar panels may be slightlyl expensive now but the maintenance is very low...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday heh slightly more expensive ? Thats colossal understatement. I just looked up the cost for enough solar panels to get rid of my electric bill and I would have to spend more on the solar panels than I payed for my house. Not to mention i have to use up about 1/4 of my yard for the solar panels because the roof doesn't have enough surface area for all of the panels. Until a solar panel is invented that is practical for everyday use its nothing but a pie in the sky idea.
DarkBioCloud 1 year ago
@DarkBioCloud of course its expensive now... because there is still no demand for it.... once it becomes common place, everyone will have it cheap... just like computers... 20 years ago barely anyone could afford a computer in their home... now, almost everyone has one cheap... its all about demand! The more its used, the smaller and more efficient they get... then soon, they will be built into new homes and not even be noticed by regular folk
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday dmand has nothing to do with cost. there is plenty of demand for anything that boost's energy production in any way.

You have been lied to about the hole thing..Look into the stock traides, carbon taxs and where they will be paid.
cavanaugh2440 1 year ago
@cavanaugh2440 well, I work in construction and I am very familiar with shortcuts when the pressure is on and the bottom line is threatened... so its no surprise to me... and as far as the breakdown of the gas prices... I am familiar somewhat with the amount of tax... but look at the facts... how much are companies like BP making.... BILLIONS.... and they make money when everyone else is losing money... why? becuase they sell a product we can't live without...

Man It's getting old seeing that lame apology over and over. aren't they suppose to be spending money on cleaning up the oil and not to clean up their reputation :(

Environmental progress should be our goal, not getting off oil.
schupy81 1 year ago
The blame goes to BP (british), Transocean (swiss), and Halliburton (from houston and dubai), as well as former and current people in MMS. Look up the report by current Inspector General of the US Earl Devaney in 2008. He concluded back then that the Minerals Management Service had a "a culture of ethical failure" which means it is tough to blame Obama for the oil spill. We need federal regulation, and BP must understand. It is coming like a freight train.
schupy81 1 year ago
@schupy81 Yes, now that the report is out... it appears that BP is 100% financially responsible and they were enabled to violate the safety protocols and standard reviews due to many corrupt or unethically acting persons in all those groups you mentioned. Even MMS... they were getting "gifts" from them...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@schupy81 BP isn't British and transocean isn't swiss and is pretty much American.
kris120890 1 year ago
@schupy81 I understand why Obama supports oil... but I don't think green energy is a lofty goal... I think that we should easily be able to go completely green, once the technology is accessible and cheap... which, if you go by the way the computer industry makes advances, should be in 20 years. Now it will probably take much longer for third world countries to follow suit but it can happen...

Ever heard of OSHA?
The oil will be drilled regardless. It's just a matter of whether we do it or someone else who doesn't even try to be enviroment friendly.
kazeet456 1 year ago
@kazeet456 they had THEORETICAL safety measures... but they WERENT in place.... look it up ... thats what the investigation found...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday Thre investigation found that there were violations...that's a far cry from not having any safety measures.
More importantly China, Cuba, and others are drilling in the Gulf with no complaints from the Greenies. So the left isn't really trying stop drilling, they're just trying to stop us from doing it. If they really cared about the environment they would want us to do it since we do listen to all their nutty demands.
kazeet456 1 year ago
@kazeet456 it found not only violations but willful disregard for their own safety precautions... they knowingly operated with their safety measures disabled!

The US troops killed thousands of innocent people there (collateral murder they say> BLOOD of OIL
And now guess what? "Nature/God" Will punish the USA starting in the oil spill, then, its just a matter of time before it all ends for the greatest terrorist nation in the World: USA.

You can bet your ass that oil will continue to fuel America's vehicles for many generations to come and Alaska will get milked eventually, but only when it is convenient for the elite.
AllahConsciousness 1 year ago
@AllahConsciousness I doubt that it will continue for generations... but I don't see an end anytime soon...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday
AllahConsciousness 1 year ago
@AllahConsciousness While I doubt the military will EVER follow the green path, I do believe the rest of government will eventually, with enough pressure from the masses...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
Powerful people who have alot to gain from peak oil trends don't want American drilling to expand. This is simply because when more product is available for sale, the prices naturally go down. They want to suck every last drop from the rigs they have now before they move on. I suspect a black ops diving team had their way with the rig. Have fun paying an arm and a leg to get around.
AllahConsciousness 1 year ago
@AllahConsciousness I do believe that there may be some truth to that but don't be fooled... if there is more available, the price won't come down that much.

hey buddy.. did you drive your car today?
ghost444 1 year ago
@ghost444 why yes... I did.... and you?
I think you are missing the point.... how can we NOT use oil unless the alternatives are out there and widely available? I would pay more to not use oil but in the long run green energy would be cheaper anyway.
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
Youre wrong. You speak in generalities. You have very little experience in this area and cite resources (when you rarely give us some) that are not credible. You sit there and blast oil and its future use, yet like most, you dont even realize that the equipment you are using and all the items in your backdrop, either require petrolium to manufacture or need petrolium or coal to function. You amoung many are not even realistic sir!
luvemliam 1 year ago
@luvemliam Well of course I speak in generalities, I am not involved in the field, however, I DO give the sources and they are pretty credible... if you look below there are several stories attached in the underbar. If you have sources that prove otherwise, show me. I am not opposed to seeing another point of view. I also realize that I use petroleum products AND I drive a car... the irony is not lost on me... but its time to change that... IT IS REALISTIC in the future.
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday @ChangedTheWorldToday Its not realistic. We are being limited to endless resources of our own oil by dems. And yes I say this during the oil leak in the gulf. You don't think there are accidents waiting to happen with wind turbines? What about the poor chinese lady who's paid the equiv of pennies a week to manufacture ineffective solar panels?
luvemliam 1 year ago
@luvemliam I fail to see how any wind turbine accident could be as bad as even the most minor of oil spills... even if it blew up!
and I'm not sure what you mean about the old lady making panels in China... she has a job... what is wrong? the environment or the low wages? You don't need much to live on in China...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday @ChangedTheWorldToday Too many eggs in our"green basket" too soon, we have found that the turbines are not lasting as long as initially thought and replacement parts are almost nonexistent. This is also the first time I have ever heard a liberal say its ok for a person to be overworked, underpaid and mistreated. very odd!
luvemliam 1 year ago
@luvemliam that is why we need to invest more in this technology...
and I didnt say that it was OK for a person to be overworked, underpaid and mistreated.... I simply said she has a job... show me the proof that she is overworked, underpaid and mistreated.... just because those conditions exist in other areas, this doesn't have any bearing on this argument.

you could look for "the young turks" here on YouTube. they have sources and video about this. they even have the video of different republicans and like 1 democrat that support of drill drilling and criticizing obama for not pushing even more drilling.2030 is a responsible goal.i know some people who actually get money from the electric company instead of a bill they get a check bc they do soler pannles and it payed of for them in 5-10 years literally. imagine that. and ya shes an idiot.

the clean energy dont nearly as much lobbyist paying millions to the these crooks like the oil companies do, to much money in oil right now they are making from us, ur right.
pete226 1 year ago
@pete226 thats why i dont complain when the oil prices rise... it has a way of making people think about alternatives
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday yea we need that to wake the masses up, but as long as we have these lobbyist in the white house it looks almost immposible for clean enery, well hopefully these 2(chevy volt and leaf not sure the car maker) new cars coming out this year will open up the door for electric cars. it will be intersting u have to plug them in for now, they say its an equivelnt to 9cents a gallon they run up to 90mph but need recharging every 100miles, but hey thats a start.
pete226 1 year ago
@pete226 its funny how the oil companies have so much money to spend on lobbyists when they keep justifying the cost of oil to us and raising it. Let them keep raising it and we will have the incentive to seek clean energy even more. These electric cars are a good start... it'll be several years before we can fully integrate them though... but ONE DAY.....

America is the onyl nation that does not drill its natural resources lol
Ina socialist state the pensioners and dependants know every single revenue benefits them, society benefits a lot from oil
1:39
tell that to spain, the largest cap and trader has 20 percent unemployment! Cap and trade always cuts growth, how could taxes and regulation increase prosperity?
aweiss 1 year ago
@aweiss First off, Amercia DOES drill its natural resources... second... most socialist states have a level of corruption such that the benefits go to the rich and in power and do not trickle down any more than they do here... Third.... regulation hurting prosperity? Maybe the prosperity of individual companies but not the general population.
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday we dont drill off our coasts
regulation slows productivity which inherently decreases prosperity. when the nation produces less and spends more to regulate to produce it less is produced at more effort
How can someone who sees this nation crying out for jobs and state tax revenues deny states the right to drill themselves?
aweiss 1 year ago
@aweiss regulation DOES slow productivity... I agree HOWEVER, that is the price to pay for being responsible. And we DO drill off our coasts... this oil rig was off our coast as ONE example...
Your question is a very good one... it is VERY hard to balance job creation and state tax revenue with this responsible attitude towards oil... but we have to see beyond the immediate financial problems and see the big picture... the environment... Green energy investments could ease both these issues
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@ChangedTheWorldToday that is a more agreeable perspective than most but I must ask you
if we drill how does that stifle green investment. Investment will be done either way and if we have a larger GDP don't we have more to spend on that, also, cant we do both?
aweiss 1 year ago
@aweiss I think its not only possible but necessary to continue using oil until we are fully green... but once we are green... whats the point in using oil? it will not only be cleaner but also cheaper to use green energy! And in the far future, GDP means nothing if we don't have a clean earth to live on...
ChangedTheWorldToday 1 year ago
@aweiss Oh... and to address your specific question, we as a people are content using oil if it isn't too expensive... we have no motivation to change until we are forced to. If oil was more expensive or less available (same thing really)... people tend to get more concerned with green energy and that stimulates companies thinking about green energy. Until there is a bigger demand for green energy, we as a nation won't see development fast enough.
