I first heard this song among a compilation of other famous Japanese songs in 2001, by accident, after I came back from a 4-mth stay in Japan. Beautiful, beautiful song and the execution was perfect - no need to understand the lyrics. Chiharu Tamashiro is a very talented songwriter, and I admire her vocal restraint, yet perfectly executed live.

The lyrics actually contain a dialogue between the couple, visible by the language usage of how a man and a woman would address each other. Also, to address the debate of the meaning of the title "nagai aida", it literally means "long time". My own perception is that the title is very appropriate. 1stly, the girl waiting to get married had really been waiting for a long time.

I don't know what new info I can add for this song, other than the 'story' of this song. Tamashiro Chiharu, the vocalist, had a male friend who was getting married with a girl. This girl had a wish to get married by(before) 30, but because the guy was busy with his work/career, their marriage plans had to be postponed. Meanwhile, the girl just waited ('in silence'). Finally, the two were getting married.

Deciding to compose a special song for her friend's wedding, Chiharu had a conversation with him to get to know more information so as to write the song. From his story, Chiharu imagined herself in the shoes of the girl, thinking how she would be waiting. Unfortunately, in the end Chiharu wasn't even invited to the wedding, and this song could not be heard by the couple themselves.

If memory serves, I think this song was very popular when I was about to finish my PhD in Tsukuba Dai wayback in 99-2000???
