  • "In his set of 555 sonatas, more are slow than fast, and many are quite poetic, nostalgic, and even dreamy, very much in the Bel Canto style." When I read that quote about 35 years ago I couldn't believe that anyone would say that. Roughly 400 of the 555 are marked "Allegro" or faster.

  • learning this at the moment for my exam :/

  • I invite you to see Scarlatti - Sonata in G - Dame Myra Hess (1895-1965).

  • Such a gleeful piece! also horowitz was the man

  • The version played on the MOOG is interesting....but, for the purists--this is superb

  • hello, which cd is this taken from? thank you kindly

  • @anthony223 To fond the CD just google "Vladimir Horowits Plays Bach, Scarlatti, and Mozart". It will be a black CD with him on the cover. (YouTube seems to have a problem with me posting direct links to other things.

  • I think this is a very nice interpretation, not definitive, but it's nice to hear something different, especially from Horowitz.

  • The Harpsichord version is better.

  • What a wonderful instrument, to be able to do repeated notes that fast. Such a clean, exciting and inspiring performance.

  • Even here I found some haters…

    Poor Planet Earth!

    :(

I love Piano and Harpsichord. I love Scarlatti and that's all!!!

  • When you play a series of notes that quickly, they need to be very staccato and that's where the harpsichord is better suited. Other than that they really are apples and oranges.

  • this is the best piano rendition i have heard of this piece.. well done Horowitz!

  • well speaking as someone who knows nuthing about nuthin ... he's good ... i put him on par with mozart so there

  • Listen to all you stupid harpsichord defenders and music purists. You harpsichord fans sure have an inferiority complex when it comes to the piano. Get over it, it sounds great on piano.

  • @Chakiejan also sounds great your mother azzhole!

  • @Chakiejan sounds great on both instruments

  • @bilhernia I think the harpsichord sounds terrible. Like the bagpipes of keyboard instruments. Thank god we have pianos nowadays.

  • @Chakiejan I beg to the differ,I think the harpsichord has a nicer sound. It sounds sharper and not blund like the piano

  • I think you're stupid. The harpsichord is better.

  • @Chakiejan just remember without the harpsichord we would not have the early piano then and now the modern piano. So be grateful for it's historical invention at least.

  • ain't no suppose to it .It was written for harpsichord.I don't know if this music was published for anyone but the queen it was for -essecizi must mean something.Anyway did dis dude write any string music or opera? He had to do more than write 550 K E Y B O A R D sonatas.clavecin, dulcimer, lute harpsichord all sound diff but play it on anything you like.Dudes back in da day say 1730 didn't care what you did u could transpose it or reset it fo' udder instro-mints. u peeps need to chill.

  • Good...Lord.... I didn't think a piano would even PLAY with someone playing that fast.

  • I like it, but I like it better on the harpsichord. Some Scarlatti Sonata's sound better on piano, some on harpsichords

  • this is supposed to be played in the harpsichord...

  • I wanna play this piece so bad D:

  • Piano sounds so blah on this piece.

  • No baroque Harpsichord no baroque music...

  • @noospaseisde so true

  • @noospaseisde you're so stupid, it's making me stupid just responding to your stupidity.

  • @Chakiejan yeap, you are stupid!

  • @noospaseisde INDEED, HE'S STUPID.

  • Horowitz' paino version obviously has some rubato and crescendo and diminuendo that the computer harp version does not. I really like both to be honest, the harpsichord version is very cool! Sounds beautiful on the harp too.

  • I love this version! Much better than my harpsichord version.

  • The brilliance of Horowitz dazzles us but conceals the structure, while your version allows us to see the machinery at work!

  • Listening to the piano version, there's something lacking compared to the harpsichord rendition, I think,

  • True, it does sound a bit modernized, but it's still beautiful nonetheless :D

  • @123pelerin I agree. It's a lovely piece of music but it was written for the harpsichord and is better suited to that instrument. The same is true for some of Mozart's keyboard music which sounds good on the piano but even better on the harpsichord.

  • @123pelerin

    Agreed, with gusto.

  • @123pelerin I think that the harpsichord offers a warmth and fullness of sound that the piano cannot produce.

  • La migliore esecuzione di questa sonata in assoluto : brillante , alla scarlatti ...
