  • That final paint scheme has to have been one of the finest in the industry, it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Why do I get the feeling that AA will be using a spin of the commercial for their A320/737 order?

  • Compton was stupid to use their loan from the ILFC to buy 50 A318s. He wouldve been smart to spend that money on minimising TWA's financial problems

  • It's a shame that TWA is absent from our skies, but the heritage still lives on among those who had the privilege of working for such a fine airline. I flew TWA to Hawaii in 1995 and it was a pleasant experience.

  • maybe it was the orders that killed TWA......... Or maybe adding pressure to the debt they have.

  • Anybody remember the Lockheed L. 1649A Jetstream? Air France called it the Starliner and Lufthansa called it the Super Star.

  • Unfortunately, not all of the 125 new planes never went to the TWA fleet. Even the 757-231s were then dumped by AA.

  • @ThreeSevenSpeedway TWA's 757s had P&W engines while AA's 757 fleet used RR ones. It would have cost a lot more in training, parts and maintenance for two engine types. Some of TWA's 757 fleet went to Delta and still fly today.

  • @UAL1200 Still, it's all worth the cost, since then there's that slight shadow of heritage from the ol' TWA, only of course, back then, the airline industry was struggling from the effects of 9/11, which would have made such changes less likely, if not impossible.

  • @ThreeSevenSpeedway A single last stage turbine blade, which is just a tad bigger than a 9V battery, costs $7000+. The mounting bolts that fasten the engine to the pylon cost $15000 each. Add on the fact that an airline has more engines than planes to keep a spare lying around. Much like auto repair, the big sticker price comes from parts and labor. That said, I dont agree with what AA did to TWA, but the TWA legacy lives on in a few places across the US, namely JFK T5.

  • Man I miss them. The only airline I can kind of compare to them Is Continental in my opinion

  • Killers

    R.I.P TWA Flight 800

  • TWA was one great family! I left during the strike of 86/87 and I could have gone with AA, NEVER! I chose TR (Trans*Brasil Airlines) and I was with them until they folded in 2000! I'm proud to have been part of two great carriers, retired living in SOBE/Florida!

  • I love those 757-200 They had.

  • now operated by Delta Air Lines.

  • @AmericanImmaturity TWA is out of business and has nothing to do with Delta.

  • @nhra76

best colour scheme to be put on plane

aa has sold them to delta

  • I was hired on 752006 as a flight attendant and was based at MCI, STL, and JFK-1. I became a Flight Service Manager in 1980, and retired in 2003. I've had many happy years with TWA and Maury, I love watching the ol' commercials and shorts about TWA. I had no complaints with TW except for the strike in 1986, which I supported my fellow f/a crews. I miss TWA!!! Thank you for showing a wonderful former commercial! THanks for the memories!

    JFK FSM RETIRED 016779 JFK

  • To bearnsshorty10...Did you know Kevin & Gaspar from JFK base terminal 5&6 hangar 12 crew scheduling?

  • I didn't know them personally but I am aware of them.....They were very nice and very friendly........I also remember Joyce Coleman and JOhn Krause who were our base managers I believe......John was a big teddy bear as long as you did your duty LOL!!! Were you crew from JFK? Another name I remember is Beth Holcombe.

  • To roberttwfsm....I flew TW904/906 JFK/MAD/JFK lots, favorite route, I left after the strike of 86/87 and finish my career with TR(Trans*Brasil) They folded in 2000!

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

    *Why do we love flying?

*Why do we enjoy air travel?

*What do we enjoy most in the sky?

THANK YOU IN ADVNACE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

  • I guess people are impatient and want to get there as fast as possible. I prefer the train because you actually get to see places, stop at stations, and meet people from across the nation.

  • Funny, last sumer I spend time in the northeast and I wanted to drive around, I TOOK THE AUTO TRAIN, it was great, I drove some 4hrs from SOBE/FL to Sanford/FL, you get there by noon the car is put onboard, I got a compartment, and the next morning by 9AM you are in Lorton/VA 30 minutes from DC and I drove trough out NJ, NY, CT,MA,VT, RI,NH & back the same way, I left in early June came back after Labor Day! Had a blast!

  • Flying is somthing that is abstract. It is somthing that the human mind initally must force to comprehend. Air Travel is simple and fast.. And I enjoy being high above the earth while life goes on it is as if yours is frozen.

  • TWA was turning it around till 800. I still think they would have made it but I STL City and County plus State of Missouri turned its back on TWA. To busy building new terminal for Southwurst! I gotta alot of TWA friends and NWA friends that were screwed over by suits at the top who don't work but make all the money.

  • That is your opinion, iam sure you intittled to one

  • Of course that's my opinion. Who else is it? People who often state "well that's your opinion" are really trying to hid behind the fact that they feel hurt that someone else didn't think the same way they did. Well, I could also say that what you think "is your opinion, and you're entitled to it." I mean really. How ridiculous of a statement is that? Of course is one's opinion and one is entitled to one's opinion. It needless to say so.

  • My point is, who gives a F about your opinion. No one asked you if wheather you like it . The purpose if this videos is to show an old commercial and I am sure THOSE who like TWA would be happy to share momories.

There is no need for any idiot to come here and make comments about hoiw nice AA,DAL,BA,or what ever airline you like has a nice painting job.

If you dont like TWA, there is no need for you to visit this site. There are 1000000 of options at UTUBE

  • Well, Maurydez, you're also stating your opinion right there. Using your logic, I could also say "No one asked your opinion about what you think about what I said." You see how circular that goes? Hmm...

I merely made a comment that I didn't find TWA's livery attractive and it attracts undue attention! Wow! Why would that be?

  • then what do you think is best?

  • I can't say I have one that I think is "the best" but ones I like are the KLM livery both the current one and the previous generation; also I like British Airways. I am not particularly fond of South African Airways' euro-white scheme, but their tail design is fantastic. I also find Singapore Airlines and Alitalia's livery very out-dated. It reminds me of 1960s or so liveries. Thanks for asking.

  • First airline to use inflight wide screen movies aboard B707s across the Atlantic.

  • they didn't go bankrupt. they were corrupted to death by their own greedy CEO.

  • that CEO was Carl Ichan, the man who buys companies and airlines to steal money as much as he can

  • kinda ironic that when TWA was starting to improve, it went bankrupt, lol

  • largest order in history!

.,...and filed for bankruptcy little later?

  • great commercial what year was this in???

  • From what I have read on Wikipedia, it seems like 1998 or 1999.

  • did they still have 767 then

  • Again, according to a list on Wikipedia of planes in TWA's fleet as of 2000, TWA had 28 767s (either -200 or -300 series) in their fleet.

  • TWA was one of the first airlines to operate the 767 with the -200 series in the early 1980s. TWA was the first airline ever to travel across the ocean with only two engines, initiating ETOPS (Entended-range Twin-engine Operations) flights, which are very common today.

  • I did not know that TWA pioneered the utilization of ETOPS flights.

  • Yepp! The were pioneers of many things, including:

    ETOPS

The first all-jet fleet in the US

    Using Dopler Radar for weather

    ILS (i think....)

First airline to use the 747 domestically

First airline to go around the world

    and many more....

  • Interesting.

  • Although this may not serve as a great consolation , Carl Icahn lost money just like all of the other parties involved . Icahn lost money , the lenders lost money , the new investors lost money , the airlines that bought the Heathrow rights vastly overpaid , the employees lost their jobs , Saint Louis lost direct flights , New York lost two very tasteful Flight Wings , and customers lost one of the greatest airlines ever .

  • lmao lord of the dance

  • such a shame that TWA was bought by AA

  • R.I.P TWA

  • ichan was and still is a worthless piece of shit who will rot in hell along with frank lorenzo!!!!!

  • @765090 I have long wondered how Ichan and Lorenzo walk amongst us and someone has not "taken them out." It is just a shame that a legacy carrier with a rich history can be taken down by greed.

  • TWA was one of my favorite Airlines even though I flew on them only one time.

It really is to bad that Airline is gone.

The new aircraft colors looked nice, along with the new aircraft they were getting.

Carl really screwed TWA over with is personal greed. He toke a really good Airline and really cut them down to where they had to rebuild all over again for starting and getting routes again.

  • Wow! one New Plane EVERY 10 DAYS! Amazing!!! Even though i don't know about TWA that much...YOu will always be a great history airline!!! =)

  • They started that fleet renewal spree in the aftermath of the flight 800 tragedy.

  • god bless TWA and its employees.

Anyone know what song that is in the commercial?

  • Didnt Carl Ichan or whatever his name is screw TWA?

  • Carl Icahn screwed the flight attendant WOMEN mostly....BIG TIME........as he never believed women were as importnat as the MEN were and we deserved far less pay as far as HE was concerned......chauvestic pig that he was!....so TWA when by the wayside...so very sad....am glad I was there before the total demise of one great "former" airline.............

    Bonnie Miner Billington (1976-1998)

  • What a prick. I am glad you were able to work for them during the great times. I only flew TWA twice but they were the best I have ever flown. I truly miss them.

  • i miss TWA other than that great video!

  • ya your right so do i

  • ya your right so do i

  • It is, if AA were to just acquire them, then they would have spent millions, even billions, but they forced a merger, which means AA did not spend money to buy TWA, they practically took TWA for free.

  • Like, AA, didn't just buy the company and merge, they made Trans World agree to it.

  • compton did it for himself too, he just wanted money, he didnt think about all the twa travelers, they could of emerged back from bankcrupcy, they did it like 3 times before

  • TWA would have never made it back from their THIRD trip to bankruptcy and the subsequent 9/11 event. Many carriers that were much healthier financially like DL, NW, UA and US all had to seek bankruptcy protection and USAirways only survived because America West bought them. American is the only legacy carrier that has never sought bankruptcy court protection in the history of US aviation. That is NOT a reflection of the TWA employees, it is a reflection of the company itself.

  • You are wrong TWA would of made it out of bankruptcy BOEING was willing to financially support the airline becaust they were going to buy over 200 of their newest planes until AA forced them to declair bankruptcy. ASK TWALADYBUY she can tell you everything

  • actually US Airways bought America West, NOT the other way around

  • No, actually America West bought US Airways... thet's why their headquarters are now in Tempe, AZ and their callsign will soon be "Cactus" systemwide. Only the corporate ID, brand and name of US was carried over to the "new" airline because US Airways sounds way more international, more American and like a bigger airline than America West.

  • FlyGuyFRA, you are right! i fell asleep on that one, what a shame. yea America West bought USAIRWAYS but the execs and most of its board members are America West. the weird thing about it, is that they kept the U.S. Airways name (with America West execs in control) which is why i naturally thought US bought America West.

  • Yes, they made few conditions, but the conditions were never honored. They broke every agreement they made..There were 3000 employees in STL now there are 300.

There were 20000 in DFW now there are 19000.

When it comes time for reduction of force, they focus where there are more TWA employess.

Can you tell me what is wrong with this pic?

  • Don't forget the overhaul base at MCI.

  • Yep.... My dad retired from there in 1986. I am glad he wasn't affected by all of this. I know he liked what he did there though. It's a shame TWA died.... or should I say murdered.

  • yes, sadly my friend, american erased a huge milestone in aviation history, when the forced a merger.

  • Remember flight TWA 800 NYC-PARIS CDG.

Souvenez vous du vol TWA 800 NYC - PARIS CDG

    230 passengers died

  • Yeah, but u got to understand, corporations will also shed blood to make more profits.

Look at the Iraq War, more oil equals more profits. Oil companies has wells that dries up, and need to found more oil wells to keep profits flowing, Iraq is one of them.

  • Nope.

    Jetblue took there Terminal's.

  • JetBlue took the TWA Terminal in JFK

  • They did? I though it was going to be Delta.

  • Delta took Pan Am's Worldport.

  • "The largest order in our 75 year history." Little did they know it would be their last.

  • Great memories of a great airline... and Hello up there to Tom Majors, vice president of TWA France in the 70s...Up, up and away !!!

  • Please check out my channel for a question about TWA. In the comments. Thanks

  • Twa was a great airline but 1 plane every 10 days no wonder it went bankrupt

  • I loved those Commercials, they were filmed in the late 80's. Meny of my friends are in them!

I miss that job, the best I've ever had and probably ever will have. 18 years of great memories!

  • I beleive there were three versions to this TWA commercial. Does anyone know where the other two versions might be. Thx.

  • Ive worked for 4 airlines here in the US and TWA is one of the ones I wish I had the opportunity to work for. (Pan Am is the other)

  • Don't feel bad, when I went for my interview, they discovered my dad worked for them already...of course, if I would have told dad, I would have known I couldn't apply at the same terminal [LAX] LOL

  • Best Job I ever had. TWA AVIONICS STL

  • The Best Job I ever had. I will miss them. TWA avionics STL

  • Thanks for putting up this video, brings back alot of memories of twa. thanks again, look foward too more videos!

  • Too bad they got the name wrong... It's Trans World AIRLINES, my employer for almost 30 years. Retired early.

  • It's been corrected, thank you.

  • it is so sad these guys have gone, gone for good, warm cabins, friendly crews, no other airline was ever as friendly as TW, they cared so much about there passengers, everyone says so, andi do too, thankyou TWA for so many wonderfull flights!

  • thank you 4 sharing!

  • by the way: TWA = trans world AIRLINES (not airways)

  • Thank you for the correction. =)
