  • Probably one of the most overrated Belgian beers of late. Has to do with the Belgian hype I guess and although there is a lot to say for a large selection of beers from Belgium not everything is good.

This is a very poor beer in terms of production quality, continuity and overall recipe. It smells like glue and the fruitiness only partly camouflages a very off balanced combination of boozyness with bitter mustiness.

These recipes are why Germany developed the Reinheitsgebot.

  • @Voxnulla I think you got a bad bottle dude...I've had about a hundred and none have smelled like glue or been bitter. This stuff is fantastic, especially on tap.

  • @fastand Well, Seeing as it was part of a beer tasting afternoon and 3 of us had these, we compared colour, taste and smell. We sat in a well respected beer cafe in the Netherlands where they specialize in Belgian beer. Two of us didn't like this and one did, because there is no accounting for taste I guess.

2 weeks ago a friend of mine had this one while I stuck to German beer. I did have a quick whiff and it smelled just as artificial to me then before. I think we can rule the bad bottle out.

  • LOL omg that fuken corke was so funny when it poped lol good thing you didnt have yo9ur face abov it lol ... but shit i was going to give a tip if you dont mind ..... work on the audio in yoru videos use a mic on your cloths or above the camera view it would help the apearance of the video..... just a TIP ............ "HOLLER BACK" .... Goldblooodd

  • 0:59 Fantastic! I've never had a beer cork shoot out like that simply by removing the cage from the top.

  • Great beer! I drank this instead of champagne for New Years. Definitely one of the best examples of the style if not the best.

  • If we ever do a beer trade leave that one out, I'd be scared to open the box. Too funny though, and I love the slow-mo effect.

  • I've gotta try this one again. Hated it the first time I tried it. I just found it was cloyingly sweet and it did have some tang to it (which I wasn't prpared for at the time). I'll pick up a bottle and do a side by side with the Rodenbach Grand Cru (which I like).

By the way, the Grand Cru is higher rated on BA than this one. It is a top 10 for the style though.

  • @LHKDeath Yea, had the Grand Cru this past weekend. Both are great, hard to choose between them.

  • WTF am I watching?

Why do people smell the fucking beer? Just say if it's good. wtf?

    haha, attack of the CORKS

  • @Over9000Gingers You obviously don't belong here, go drink some O'Doul's...

  • @xJG91x No, just don't fucking smell the beer, you don't see me smelling my Dr. Pepper or Coke! Or my water or my piss. wtf dude, just drink the fucking thing and be like, "titties and beer" and tell us if it's good.

And I've never had N/A beer before, I want to try it though.

  • @Over9000Gingers 75% of taste is smell. Smell, in everything we eat and drink, is the defining factor for how we appreciate it. If you want to know what makes a beer "tick", you have to give it a good whiff. The whole combination of smell, taste and texture are all part of what makes of breaks a beer according to personal preference. What good is it if you just say "yeah, it's good"? perhaps the reasons why you like it put me off completely. Just "It's good" is not objective reviewing.

  • Great review! Thumbs up!

  • Great review, guys! This beer is the only Flemish red I've had so far, but I still remember how impressed and surprised my palate was, hehe! Cheers!

  • pop ............ ha ha ha ha

  • when the beer ages it smooths out and has way less sour character hence the best before date. I am sure you do not agree but that is why your are wrong. I have aged this beer before but whatever you love to disagree. do your research and then do more and then drink some old sours and get back with me after that.

  • @Tantrum777 I feel like you are always trying to stir up an argument. You do realize we could have different opinions, correct? Did you read the article I sent? Those statements came from professional brewers, some of the best in the business. It's pretty hard to argue with them.

Anyway, I feel as though we've gotten off on the wrong foot. First about dry hopping, now about sour beers. It's all good man, no need to argue about this stuff. We both love good beer, and that's all there is to it.

  • @jbrookeiv so you still think if its older its more sour eh? I don't try to stir anything up if some one is wrong I correct them how is that stir things up? did you look at the bottle? the best before date? Go look at beer advocate look at the style guide and look at Lambic - Unblended

look you are right up to a point but do you really think it takes wild yeast and bacteria 3 years to brew? You are mostly incorrect about sours and next time you wanna send me a link pm me.....

  • @Tantrum777 This isn't a Lambic. I do believe that, to a certain point, a beer will become more sour the longer it sits. I know for a fact that it can take years for a proper level of sourness to develop in a beer. I am brewing a beer with Brett, and after 3 months in the fermenter, it is just starting to show hints of Brett character.

Check out the style guide for Flanders Reds on BA. Lambics and Flanders Reds use different types of yeast, therefore they age differently.

  • @jbrookeiv sour does not come from a yeast. Flanders Reds and Lambics use the the same bacteria to sour a beer and no beer gets sour from yeasts....... Look bro I do like your vids but these are facts, you can say and think what you want. I was simply trying to correct you. I am tapping out after this last comment, later.

  • @Tantrum777 Also, if a beer gets less sour as it ages, why is the Rodenbach Classic MUCH less sour than the Rodenbach Vintage 2008? The Original is a blend of young and old Rodenbach, where as Vintage 2008 is 100% old beer. I'm telling you man, you are not correct when it comes to Flanders Red Ales, they use different "bugs", i.e. lactobacillus, acetobacter, etc.

  • lol danger cork

  • @glitch777 No kidding, it was nuts! Could have easily messed up my eye had it made contact.
