Interesting how much dancing has changed since those years. If i would give a presentation like that on blackpool nowadays, i would not have any success, it might almost be an insult against blakcpool :D

paso is a dance where man is the matador and the lady is his cape (NOT the bull). very different character that either chacha or rumba.

The dance in this clip is paso doble. Paso is a very different dance from more familiar latin dances like cha cha or rumba, so that may be why the dancing seemed odd to some viewers. There is no hip action or Cuban motion in paso and the posture, especially the man's, is supposed to be very strong and even a bit "rigid," as one commenter described it. Dancing in those days was less flashy and they didn't do tricks, but otherwise it's the same dance as paso today.

Another thing to remember is that dancing as we know it today orginated just shortly before that time so that's another reason why looks so beginnerish.

There are Cuban Motions in Slavik and Donnie Burns dancing today. I would say the Latin was being done in those days are academic, like a beginner practicing, and rigid. Not interesting to look at. Sorry to say that. But then I refused to lie.
