@sgtjoe2008 That is the problem with our way of life and system of government in the Philippines.
There is no support from the government, plus a lot of infighting within sports groups of who will get the funding, of what little funding is available from the government. It takes money to run sports programs, so sometimes it is up to the private sector to promote, but it is not enough. The Phils. government must do something positive.
@layogtabay yes...now that it is a national sport...arnis should be back in elementary and high school curiculum. Infighting within sports groups? can these groups just sit and create a central governing body for FMA to be recognized by all....that way it can promote better if its a one big group.
@sgtjoe2008 The problem is that there are so many systems of Eskrima/Arnis in the Philippines, so it is not impossible to teach one system BUT it is going to be really hard.....
@sgtjoe2008 they should have ALL sectors of education teaching Arnis in their PE.. we had board games for pe 3??? get the fuck outta here with that.. i wanna do arnis for pe 1 2 3 4... from an upset student at OLFU lagro
@sgtjoe2008 Due to circumstances beyond the control of the producer, the documentary released has been postponed a few times, BUT it is 90 per cent done. Just be more patient and it will be out sooner !!
It will be on pay per view at first, then DVD later on... Thank you for inquiring my friend ! Best regards. Master V
i'd love to see a movie with tons of FMA featured in it. they're some of the most effective arts for defending yourself today and isn't watered down like most other arts. and they even look awesome when you see demonstrations done with it :D
Quite a collection of the greatest Filipino warriors there is! This documentary got my pulse racing! For the guys who made this docu, kudos! Mabuhay ang mandirigmang Filipino!
I hope there are more hollywood action movies that will use FMA choreographed by Filipino Guros or GMs like Jeff Imada in the Bourne movies. And I hope we will have our own international Filipino martial art superstar like in China, there is Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li, in Thailand there is Tony Jaa. Someday Philippines can make a great movie that will use FMA with a Filipino FMA superstar. So kids, start training hard right now! = )
@dynnbobo - we already had & have stars like ramon zamora, lito lapid (Kamagong Movie), tony ferrer in the early 70-80s. but FMA wasn't in its time of general recognition in those days! but it would be ground breaking if someone would come out & become an FMA superstar in Philippine action movies this year..
is this pic out already? there are many other arnis disciplines u can add like the oido systems, tapado, lapu-lapu.. these are all part of pinoy heritage.. fact is, the HANDBLADE originated from the lapu-lapu system of the great GM Vinas and has evolved since.. even the silat in brunei has been using it.. arnis is pinoy heritage, its good we keep it.. but we must always remember the people behind this art, there are still a number of great GMs around like the great Cacoy Canete and many others.
Does anyone notice that all our tattooed warriors have beer bellies & are overweight? Mapapayat kaya sila bago nila impakita yung chest nila, at least man lang walang tiyan na aakalain mong 6 months pregnant!
@nenabunena in a general sense, someone's physical appearance maybe indicative of their conditioning but don't pass judgement so quickly. you know the adage..."judging a book by its cover...".
@digby72 so sad. we lost another GM master who loves to promote our endearing art. My Condolences to him & His Family...."MABUHAY ANG SANDATAHANG PILIPINO"!!!!
I am very thankful for all the support and kind words you have been posting, and for getting the word around. Together with my Associate Producers Kent Vives and Sonny Sison, I am doing all I can to make this documentary something really special.
Check us out on Facebook, and in a few months the website should be up and running.
Hi again to Master Virgil and all who've been supporting the documentary. I recently made an announcement in the Facebook Group Page for The Bladed Hand that I had to postpone the release of this documentary to around April 2011. There are some improvements that I feel it needs, and so I will give it all I've got to make it the best that it can be, in order to do justice to the world of Filipino Martial Arts and its flame-keepers.
The last time I saw and spoke to Jay Iganacio last August 1, in Manila he told me that the documentary is in the final stages of completion. Please just be patient and I will be announcing it to you as soon as it will be available, where it is available!! Thank you very much for your support for FMA and Jay Ignacio and his Associates who worked very hard for this documentary. Master Virgil
Master Virgil...salamat for your contribution to this documentary. I just found out that during your recent trip to The Philippines, you shared your expertise w/ my friend's brother. Small World! - Sonny "Associate Producer - The Bladed Hand"
The Filipino martial arts are so advanced - the only art that flows naturally throughout all ranges of combat and also has its own ground fighting system that is, in my opinion, much more vicious then Brazilian Ju-Jitsu (Which I practice and have the utmost repect for) Dumog is both deadly and beautiful. From FMA comes today's boxing, even Cus Demato learned the knife which certainly effected the way he taught his fighters to move and to hit. They changed boxing and footwork, Thank -you.
Amazing I am so proud to have Filipino blood! I can't wait for this to come out! I've seen some of these GrandMasters in other documentaries! Thumbs Up!
we had this arnis in high school as physical education....but got replaced with sports...don't know why
