  • Ray Brown was a great bass player and still is one of my favourites, but you can't fail to see how relaxed NHOP is on this lovely tune. Technique, we are told, is not everything but it it gives the player freedom to express their ideas whilst appearing to play effortlessly. NHOP and Oscar Peterson were, without doubt in my mind, the greatest of all showing these qualities on their respective instruments. RIP never to be forgotten OP & NHOP.

  • @canterite great comment. i would only add that this concert is when ray handed over the bass to niels and he had told oscar in great humilty that you gotta hear this guy called the great dane/ after this he was op's choice for obvious resons, and not to slight ray. and then norman granz produced a whole album with this 3 called i believe chops
