  • im crying like a baby,im so hurt right now:(

  • This video is art. It is unpretentious, restrained, and beautiful, just like Colin's music. It touched my heart deeply and I thank you for sharing a piece of your soul. This is the most beautiful thing I've seen today.

  • I cried the whole 5:19 minutes a wonderful interpretation of the song. Ive always loved colin hay and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. and i think briantech said it best the year ago when he commented about what colin meant. But now i think any heartache from a true love lost can be just as painful beautiful

  • I cried the whole 5:19 minutes a wonderful interpitation of the song. Ive always loved colin hay and this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. and i think briantech said it best the year ago when he commented beautiful

  • Nice compliment you give to Colin by doing this. It touched me this way as well. Cheers mate.

  • Tom Waits wrote Martha when he was about 23 . . . newfag teenager briantech? Don't think so . . .

  • Anybody who tries to say that the guy who made this video cannot relate to love lost . . . . because he is young . . . is a fucking idiot. How out of touch with your own youth have you become? Or are you just a pretentious prick? Whatever . . . this is a great song and this was this kids interpretation of how it impacted HIM emotionally . . . He had enough balls to make a video and put it out there for ass holes like you to critique it . . . What have you done, Briantech?

  • Are these the places were you first fell in love with her? Re-walking the same steps. Only her memory to stand beside you...this video may be personal to you, but it still brought a lifetime of my own memories flooding back. Thank you.

  • Great interpretation...obviously all the haters out there have never felt what it's like to deal with a broken heart....nicely done!

  • This songs great.

The video is a fucking joke.

  • 3 months later im still playing this song to myself

i hope you see this sara

    anthony

  • I'm sure that when Colin wrote this song, he was thinking about a Mitsubishi-driving retard.

  • i think it's perfect. he's a normal guy with a car and a hat, wondering around lost and heartbroken, like we all have before. And the shaky fuzzy camera work I think is, again, just supposed to make it seem like he's one of us, not knowing what to do with himself and his thoughts.

  • good video...but just some minor criticism....remove all commercial logos such as the hat shirt and car, and it will produce a quality that will last longer over time....thanks for posting the song

  • nice job soulfyre

  • love that leaves... never stops hurting

  • Amen.

  • Say what you want nubs, but for some reason I keep coming back to this video (months after.) It has a charm, and I like it.

    So bite it trolls.

  • Good song... average video with shaking camera... I give it 2 stars

  • werd nakedslaveboy, werd

  • the dude in the video is my cousin!!! XD lol

  • I miss you...still

  • i miss my matt.

  • great job!!!

  • great work man,

    beauty is all around

  • man i hate bitches.

  • a briliantly shot iece of film that hels compliment such a great song .... 5 stars all round

  • This song is so good and Colin Hay is a phenomenal singer and that's all there is to it

  • Rollin' in my Beaman Pontiac

  • I agree.

This isn't about some newfag teenager in a mitsubishi who's 17yr old girlfriend just dumped him after dating for 3 weeks.

This song is about an old man who has lost his best friend, his wife of 40 years, his only reason for living. He has to wake every morning with that agonizing loss. The loneliness of a quiet, cold, rainy november morning.

  • Dude, you read into this a bit much... All I was trying to invoke was sadness and a feeling of being incomplete... A sort of not knowing what to do with yourself feeling... As far as age goes, I was only in front of the camera because I couldn't really explain that feeling... You would have had to have lived it... You telling me loss is only experienced by the old? I think not.... Hic puer est stultissimus omnium!

  • I don't think that old man is Colin though. According to what he says at his live shows he's "ill equipped for tragedy because he's experienced so little of it.". I think the video fits perfectly with the tone of the song.

  • i've been there going back over all the places you went together, trying to recapture those old feelings, and then wishing you could stop doing it,cause it only hurts worse, and wondering why you don't see them there doing the same.

  • That is what MAKES the song tool...

  • I think Colin Hay's voice is appropriate and unique in this song. Your a douche bag XD

  • I'm okay with everyone having opinions and all, but Colin Hay is an unbelieveable vocalist and I couldn't disagree with you more.

  • Beautiful song.

  • Great interpretation, even though it's a lot of the same. the song really feels like a guy, sitting in a chair, smoking a sigarette, doing nothing.

  • everyone has their own interpretation. music, like art (as art) is objective, so it brings out different feelings in everyone. no one else knows exactly how you feel after a break up, or after you lose someone. so when you listen to music, although it may have the same "meaning" to two people, everyone has their own personal experiences that tie into it. music can be soo beautiful, and i think its sad when people argue about a songs "true meaning" or interpretation. quality video.

  • Nice work on this video it's a good interpretation of the song :)

  • hats off to you.... beautiful video for an amazing song... brings tears to my eyes whenever i hear this song cause sometimes, you never do get over someone...

  • amazing video....I know that feeling...and I love the song...garden State...memories of a long lost love...

  • I like it. I think it refelects that restlessness and sort of pointless wandering that happens after a break up. What do you do with yourself? You just try to be distracted and find soething to do with yourself, but it doesnt really work.

  • jeez, did ya ever stop to think that someone took time an energy to do this video thing, ooh in the off chance that it was for someone or for them. to all you 'movie directors' throwin ur 2 pence in, give it up fellas, its mean to stamp on something you dont fully understand.

  • this was anwfull adaptation of a great song. The clothes and car made it totally amateur, and there was no point. all it was was you atanding around. Absolutely pointless.

  • oi fuck off get off ur critising ass and make a fucken video and see what people think about it huh. dude its perfect when ur dumped ur lost everything slows down and u dnt know wherre to go if i were filmed when i was dumped i probably would of seen the same shit man

  • I hope this song helps Jenny

  • I miss u Lins

  • Funny, I have always pictured the image of someone reflecting and smoking a cigarette when I hear the beginning of this song. Great interpretation

  • i just dont think ill get over you. over alexis...

  • Where was the longing in this video? It just some depressed guy not doing anything all day. The point of the song is hell always remember the girl, but hes not depressed. Why just mope all day in this video?

  • the car and the clothes throw it off

  • god everyone can relate to this song...

    love you still...

  • I bow to your vid - you did a wonderful job of capturing the essense of the song. It certainly enriched the song and made me even more emotional. Great job!

  • i miss you cara.without you here, there is less to say.

    P.

  • this is a great video, the character is almost to the t of what i imagined.

  • this song is so depressing...

  • "Feeling Blue, I miss you Black-coming on like

    a heart attack...Candy, I can't let you go..."

This Colin Hay song haunts my heart yet gives

me strength as well-Forward one must go, all the while carrying those with us who remain in our hearts and whose spirits will always remain in our souls.

  • Well said.

  • Great video interpretation too.

  • Amazing song. Heartbreak is the most amazingly terrible feeling in the world. They say time heals all wounds, but all it's done is given me more time to think about how much I miss her.

  • @Octavarium99 same here

  • Beautiful song.

  • Now if this isn't the best song to play while drinking heavily after a breakup then what is.

  • Great video.... although I was expecting him to arive at a graveyard in the end.... but I am morbid like that lol

  • Bah this song chews on my soul

  • Mr. Colin Hay is one of the very few, truely great musicians. I can listen to any of his songs anytime. Brilliant. The video is perfect, don't change anything. Spur of the moment is quite often the best. Forget the car. When you yearn for love lost, nothing else matters.

  • That was a wonderful job man. If I were Colin I would release this as is

  • if I didn't read it was by Colin Hay, I would have said it was by Nick Drake. Nice song yep.

  • i just dont think i`ll ever get over you..

  • We choose to love who we want wether they are going to love us back or not. And even when it's over we still have the choice to love them. And my friends is what this song reminds me of.

  • We choose to love who we want wether they are going to love us back or not. And even when it's over we still have the choice to love them. And my friends is what this song reminds me of.

  • yep...that is True. Nice to hear someone say it so simply.

  • Mine chose not to. And good Lord does it hurt.

  • Great, now I feel like crying.

Especially the last two verses really made me think about her.

Thank you for posting nonetheless, Colin is great!

  • I'm in the same position as you man. It's amazing, really, how songs like this can completely describe how hundreds of people feel. I'm with you mate.

  • you did a great job on the vid,. and awesome song!! Colin is a brilliant musician.

  • great video to a beautiful song :)

  • i feel like drinking strong whiskey every time i listen to this song

    very sad and touching song

  • hurts everytime i hear this

  • perfect song

  • yeah it does, seems really slow sometimes tho

  • here on the other side of the pond this guy is pretty much unknown but if i have my way all of england will here this

  • this song has been makin me think of my ex girlfrend, and it makes me sad, but for some reason i smile about it

  • *tears* ...

I can identify with this song. Colin Hay is a genius. Love this song :)

  • not sure about the vid, but the song is a gem.

  • Captures the mood well..more efficient than some big bucks shiny videoclips..only thing I'd change is the choice of car. It's somehow too testosterone-looking foe all this melancholy..

  • Was this a high school project?

  • No.

  • I think there's a techno remix of this song.

  • ditto

  • Good work man. I can see you put a lot of effort into this.

  • i love this song...I played it in the car after my wife and i had a huge fight. Halfway through, I was crying myself silly b/c the lyrics somehow made me picture my life w/out her

  • This song is so soothing and emotional indeed... :)

  • I liked this, but you really need to work on your steady shots. Or invest in a tripod. :)

  • god this song hits where it hurts.

i listen to it when ever i remember my lost half. helps to get all the grief out.

  • Okay so I just prayed for you datahouse but I gotta say this doesn't really seem like the proper place to post your declarations of love. I don't mean to be too harsh but your comment comes across as overly sappy and a little whiny. I do hope you get her back though (assuming you didn't cheat on her or hit her).

  • This ho I feel since my girls left me 2 years ago. What else to say? Thanks Colin.

  • i absolutely love this song, and i think you did a really good job with your interpretation

  • True

  • holy shit i was just looking for videos with colin hay music and the first one i click on is yours i know that small town i live in it its dickson actually i live right up the street from the coffee bean and that park lol small world

  • Incredible song, as last comment said, soothing and emotional...perfect...

  • This song is so soothing and emotional..

    *sniff sniff*

  • Hey great song! Ur video shows one of many ways to interprete the mood of this song, well think I like it.

  • Takes me back to December 10th, 1999, when Collin played this song in our town of Corvallis, Oregon, and the man I loved so dearly at the time, bought the CD. What a heartbreaking love affair of 6 years, here's to you Nick Regele, I am now so happily married, and I would sing this song to my precious hubby..

  • awesome! It's already been said, but the way you used the dark colors really brought out the mood of the song. Make another one : P

  • great stuff. I always cry when I hear this song. You've captured the mood perfectly. I first heard this at Woodford folk festival in 2002 in Queensland Australia. It was so haunting I sat there and sobbed.

  • Colin does it once again, not sure about the vid though

  • What precisely aren't you sure about?

  • Very cool ending.

  • It's a good clip but i feel is overly depressive, it makes the guy look pathetic! It gets a little boring because of the long takes. I think it is good but i feel like the song doesn't exactly refer to someone who became a complete loser when that someone left but instead to someone that moved on with a life only that there is just this one person missing.

Sorry this is just one very meaningful song for me!

  • While I agree with your interpretation of the song I feel that, though perhaps not as effectively as I could have, I did capture the essence of moving on. If you'll notice toward the end of the video, our hero (who is actually me! haha) 'moves on' as visualized by walking away down the railway tracks and also, the very end when he takes the keys out of the ignition, some colour returns to the otherwise bluish tinted world. 1/2

  • First of all, Kudos to the hero of this video who managed to transmit that sadness, then, by the way you explained to me the usage of the colours and the intention of some particular actions and locations I think you chose well and it actually makes me glad to have found this video you made, there are a lot of crappy stuff uploaded in youtube! I'm glad you like this song hopefully as much as I do! Tnx 4 replying! :)

  • Unfortunately that effect coupled with a camera angle that's rather colourless anyway made the whole thing not really as effective as I would have liked. As mentioned before, this was a video that was done spur the moment and without ANY planning in about 4 hours. There are TONS of things I would do differently but such is the nature of the beast! Thanks for your comments! :) 2/2

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

  • I would not have used a car - maybe getting off a bus or out of a car after hitching a ride .. having a suitcase or something similar..the place worked a treat, a gray desolate town.. and maybe flashbacks of the good time you ahd with who you had left behind?

  • Yeah... all hindsight... I did this video about 3-4 years ago on a whim one boring Saturday. I grabbed my brother, asked him if he wanted to 'make a video' and he said he would and out we went. So lack of planning is evident in this video. I was happy with how well it turned out, notwithstanding all the aforementioned. :) Thanks for your comments!

  • Good stuff :-)

  • thought this really fitted the song, - I've never heard it before. Only thng I'd change is the choice of car. Maybe wierd, but the colour stole some of the frame.

  • Thanks alot for your comments. Yeah, the was sort of an arbitrary choice. In hindsight, it does seem a bit bold for the mood. Thanks again!

  • This is nice, i like the car scene at the beginning, well done :)

  • Nice work. You really managed to capture the mood of the piece.

  • Despite any contrast issues, this is a great interpretation of an excellent song!

  • I agree with all of Urgelts comments, but I urge you to keep this up!

  • Nicely done -- very evocative.

  • I felt the contrast was too low in this clip, even if intended for mood-setting. Aside from that, I found it an interesting collage of memory and mood, a soft melancholy fitting well to Hay's song.

  • Agreed. I did this video about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, I no longer have the raw footage to remedy the situation. *sigh* Hindsight: the bane of film-making! :)
