Although a number of things lead to the Corvair's demise, I would think that Ralph Nader and his book "Unsafe at Any Speed" did the most damage.

@ lanceisbeach they arnt to expensive to find and restore i just bought a 68 chevy monza corvair for 1600 put in 3000 and got sold it for 6500
