I am impressed! So unusual.I love the trick she does with her hands at 0:20.And considering the huge amount of perfect 10s awarded in this olympics i wonder why she didn't get one for ths routine.
Am I the only one that thinks Pop should have been in AA finals rather than Dobre? As much as I LOVE Dobre she had no chance of a medal with her watered-down routines and fresh knee surgery landings. I would rather have seen another Romanian that could have medaled in finals. A non-injured Dobre along with Silivas in AA finals might have been a 1-2 punch!
I kind of agree. Dobre is perhaps my all-time favorite gymnast (along with Moste, Shush, Comaneci, Tourischeva, Dudnik, Chen, Bo, Silivas, Strazh, Bogy), but Popa was absolutely wonderful at this competition, and unfortunately she got "twoper'd" and "threeper'd" out of AA, BB & FX finals. This is my (well-informed, but not verified by scores) opinion. ;)
What an incredible dismount, done in combination : only bettered by Tatiana Gutsu's combination dismount of 3 backhandsprings to a full-in, which is the most difficult dismount ever done from beam.
The ROMANIANS were astounding on BB at the 1988 Olympics. The best team on this apparatus.
Absolutely phenomenal and intricate routines that showcased their tenacity in performing difficult skills, flexibility and amazing body lines and amplitude!
Celestina Popa's routine should have scored 9.95 to complement Silivas' 10.00 and Potorac's 9.95. Aurelia Dobre and Camelia Voinea deserved 9.90.
Yes thats how beam used to be: a lot of gymnasts would take their floor choreography and use it on the beam. These are the days when artistic gymnastics was just that: artistic. Those days are gone forever now though:(

Celestina Popa was beautiful. I love this beam routine, and the Romanian team in 88 was phenomenal. It doesn't get much better those girls.

Oops! I accidently hit the "thumbs down". Sorry!

Very nice routine! The 1987-1988 period was the best period for the Romanians (particularly 1987!)

Is Patterson's RO-BH-arabian double front easier?
espinaca79 3 years ago
The Patterson dismount is the hardest one in the COP I do believe.

So cute! The Romanians had the best team in 1988. I wish they won!

I luv when she put her foot down by both hands. Such a grace!

This is so nice. It's so insane how beam routines used to actually use dance and have choreography!
escaflowne9282 4 years ago
was my eyes deceiving me or is she adding a sort of floor routine to her beam performance? either way, its different! a shocker to watch
