  • wow that acoustic sure sounds like a tele haha I never new this was fake until now

  • Had a crush on Susan back in the day.

  • It's funny, lol they're miming it, but it doesn't look like there's strings on the guitar either :P

  • Fail at 01:48, LOL

    (pretending he's playing the guitar)

  • Funny hair...

  • Great version of this song. She's so pretty, she makes me think of like Ms. America or someone like that.

  • Buck is great but even with all his success he is under appreciated. He is a true giant of the industry. Add a little Don Rich to Buck and you have magic.

  • Their teeth are so white.

  • Really nice!!

  • awesome!

  • Buck was not picking but don't kid yourself Buck could pick. Infact he was Tommy Collins lead man.

  • Just pretty darn good

  • Great version, much improved by being slightly countrified.

Am I hearing this right: is her "baby, my sweey baby" comparable to Slyvia's, better close? I'm not sure.

    Itzik Basman

  • @WyattGannsGurl baby woho baby my sweet baby

  • Did Buck and Susan ever release this?

  • She came at 1:32.

  • They had no chemistry between each other but were spectacular together!

  • beautiful performance, but i still think sylvia does a better job

  • @purpleshock13 Oh for sure, Sylvia does a better job. But this was good.

  • oh loverboy!

  • Awesome performance!!!

I love the Buck Owens sound.

  • great song. susan raye is beautiful!

  • what a voice !

  • My band played with Susan at the Friedberg Germany Capri Club in 1982 where I was stationed. She is a sweet heart to work with.I never did find out why HER band didnt show up??? LOL

  • Bakersfield's number one son. RIP

  • cruising up interstate 5 with the top down and singing along to this song blasting on the eight track over and over and over.

  • Has anyone got a copy of Sweethearts in Heaven by Buck Owens and Susan Raye? Would love to hear it again. thx

  • Buck went a little fluffy when he joined hee haa,but as you can see from this clip he still had it.This duet is as good as anything George and Tammy did.

  • classic hee haw moment

  • Nice song!!!

  • LOL I like how Buck "acts" like he was playing the guitar solo :D

  • @Johi2410 He may well have been playing the guitar solo..... a lot of these performances were lip-synched.

  • It would have been way cooler if they'd have gone to the V chord in the main verse like in the original. Oh well. Buck Owens was way cool, R.I.P. This song was written by the great Bo Diddley, also R.I.P.

  • Love this version! Even better than the version from the 'Dirty Dancing' movie. Buck & Susan are a great couple. Their voices just fit perfectly.

  • I like this one better than the 1956 original.

  • thats a wunderfull song with many love

  • I love the "yay-ee-yay" part :)

  • thats what i call a hair helmut. btw check out buddy holly's verison, its pretty good

  • That was called a 'flip' and was the big 'do' of the early 60's...!

  • She's a "Babe"...!

  • woooooooow

  • very amazing

  • Hey ! This is pretty good !

    A pleasant surprise, indeed !

5 Starz and thanks for posting

  • Odio ese peinado, la chica es mona y el vestido es bonito pero...ese peinado arggg

  • soy de alemania, tienes razon con el peinado pero como maravillosa canta esta chica!

  • You guys must be hairdressers! lol

  • omg shes my schools counslor i just found out that she was famous holy sh*t!!!!

  • thats great! which school?

  • Comment removed

  • lol..

  • No, you may be thinking of Bonnie Owens. Susan Raye dropped out of country music to raise her family and later went back to college.

  • @eileenkabush...Think I remember from HeeHaw that Susan was the niece of one of the stars, Buck or Roy Clark.

  • @eileenkabush Think I remember from HeeHaw days that Susan was the niece of one of the stars; either Buck or Roy Clark...come to think of it, she favors Roy, so was probably he.

  • I like it

  • This is why I love Youtube - what a wonderful lost gem!

  • @SoftWolfTread AMEN. Wish the current head office realized that and left it alone to be what it is.

  • Good version!

  • I saw this on Hee Haw the other night on RFD. Way cool!

  • Hot diggidy!

  • Oh gosh. This is so sweet.

  • When was this recorded? Susan Raye looks so cool

  • i would say around 1969

  • I like how Buck moves his head around when he sings! It's like all bouncy or bobbity or something....and his facial expressions too, not particularly in this performance though, does he make facial expressions....

  • Such a fine example of classic country! If someone today would take time to study the style of this type of country, and learn something form it, they would become stars overnight...real country fans miss the good stuff and would be a huge waiting audience.

  • Great music

  • This is terrific! Thanks for posting!

    -JR

  • 1:33!

  • There should be a movie made about Buck Owens life!! there will be :)

  • This is too cool.

Notice Susan's fine facial expression at 1:33 while Buck is string-synching the Telecaster player. Love it !!

  • newporter42...you're right! A very sexy look too! I wonder if anyone knows if Susan is still alive? Great voice!

  • She's still alive, but has been retired from recording since the mid-'80s. She showed up for a Bakerfield tribute show a few years ago, but that's about it.

  • She's so beautiful! But even more of a beautiful voice! I've never heard of her till this video (unfortunetly) But I most definitely love her now! LOL! Her and Buck sing really good together too!

  • wkd

  • Love it!

  • Love Susan, had a crush on her as a teenager in the early 70's.

  • nice :B

    thnx

    5*

  • Funny how you can watch a million videos on you tube and you miss this gem over and over. What a great performance I love these two. However lip syncing, no way, just kidding it was really nice to have seen this video. I love Buck!!!!

  • Buck Owens <3

    Susan Raye is beautiful :]

    5/5

  • That girl is very pretty is she American? good song 2

  • This is a great cover of the Les Paul and Mary Ford classic. Was also covered by the late Buddy Holly.

  • Originally Mickey and Sylvia, not Les and Mary. Fantastic version, though. I must try and find some of those Susan and Buck albums. Is this Hee Haw?

  • Ahh - Susan Raye - she married the drummer in Buck's band and broke my 15 year old heart -lol

  • She married the drummer in Buck's band you say?

    Which one?

    Willie Cantu? Or Jerry Wiggins?

  • Just found out - Susan Raye married Jerry Wiggins in 1972 and they are now parents of 6 children.

  • OH I just love that song.

  • thats a lot of hairspray

  • Susie is hot!

  • Funny, I still have the 1956 hit version of this by by Mickey and Sylvia on a 78 rpm.

  • wow. the sixties. that chick is cute, though

  • this was 70's...i remember seeing this as a kid

  • If this is the 70's then it is very early 70's because that doo is definitely late 60's looking....

  • no waaaayyyy this is the 70's. that chicks 'do and that song was released in the 60's so why cover it years later?

  • yes way this IS the 70's.....if you want proof that women were wearing their hair like that look at the 1971 1972 season of the Mary Tyler Moore Show....Mary Richards sported a very similar do to Susan Raye's in that season

  • You are right, barely. This song was released by these two early in 1970 on an album. For all intensive purposes therefore, this is a late '60s or very early '70s look.

  • YES!! I remember thinking,,,, how on earth is she sporting that hairdo??? I must have taken load of hairspray :P

  • Susan's 'do was definitely 60's, but Buck and Susan's version of the song was actually released in 1975.

  • Love sure is strange. That`s why I`ve given up on love...

  • Buck & Susan Raye were a powerhouse duo in the 1960's & early 70's. Buck & The Buckaroos

almost always provided backing vocals on many of Susan's solo hits. Prime example: her solo

hit " Pitty,Pitty,Patter". Take a listen! Great tune!!

  • now I have to watch Big and Rich .Kid Rock , on country awards.

I guess country music is heavy metal now?

  • nice hair style!

  • When Don Rich was alive , he and Buck would play twin fender electic guitars....they would both play the Instrumental "Buckaroo" one of then up a key ! It was awesome, I saw them when I was about 16 yrs old ! BUCK OWENS and the Buckaroos ROCKED like you couldn't believe !!! BUCK & DON were telepathic in their singing and playing !! I'd love to go Back to those days !!!

  • BUCK was a Awesome guitar player, electric or acoustic or any other Instrument he picked up ! By the way, up until the night he died at age 76 he was still playing the Electric, Acoustic guitars, Fiddle,Mandolin,Dobro & occasionaly would go over and play the Piano !! He is and was like Dwight Yoakam often says in Interviews " BUCK was one of a kind" ...also, BUCK taught don rich how to play the guitar licks that made the Bakersfield sound Famous !!

  • (Reply) (Spam)

Love The Bakersfield Sound. Listen to Dwight Yoakam's latest CD "Dwight Sings Buck." Go to his MYSPACE site.THEN buy it from NEW*WEST records, get a box of tissues and listen to TRACK 15.Talk about LOVE for Mr. Buck Owens.

  • Good singing. Can you say helmet hair? ;)

  • I like this verson better than the original.

They both did an excellent job (with the singing). I get a kick of how he acts like he is playing the electric guitar.

  • Check out the Everly Brothers' version of this song also, very cool...

  • your right buck owens has a better voice than the original

  • Nice song.....does anyone have LA International Airport by Susan Raye, popular in the 70s

  • best song <3

  • he does not have an electric guitar!!! Don Rich is his 'guitar' man... and when he died in a motorcycle accident.... Buck died also...

  • he does not have an electric guitar!!! Don Rich is his 'guitar' man... and when he died in a motorcycle accident.... Buck died also...

  • Thats why she keeps laughing
