I've spent all of my free time in the last 4 days watching the original Brotherhood 2.0 videos, and now I have finally reached the end of the first half.
To celebrate I just donated $75 to a Kiva.org project. Here's to decreasing suck levels!
You are not alone. I probably get excited because I've never had money of my own before, and so always felt bad about giving away my parents' money. BUT NOW I HAVE MY OWN MONEY! AND I CAN DO WITH IT WHATEVER I DAMN-WELL PLEASE!!! What better way for anyone to spend theirr money than decreasing suck levels worldwide? :D
I'm feeling a smidge too THISISAWESOMEOHMYGODTHEWORLDISBETTERNOWDFTBAYEAAAHHHH to properly articulate myself, so instead I'll just comment on Hank's shirt. Is that a Lil' Brudder shirt? Really? That's fracking amazing.
It's really cool to hear you talking about how poor people really are, Hank. Thanks a lot for painting a more realistic picture for those of us who weren't aware. :)
@yenamarre100 You can't grow with your state of mind. So all of us are supposed to fight people and be selfish? You try that and see how it works out for you.
2) its compleatly wrong. women can lead just as well as men. im a man and i think its sad that some people like you still think women should have less rights then us. also if all our leaders would stop fighting each other and our wealthy all shared there abundance with the poor the world would be a much better place.
The first minute or so of this video very closely mirrors the plot of Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar;" going to new places and not feeling the feelings you think you should be feeling. I should really write my Bell Jar paper instead of watching these videos now. :P
I have officially watched 1 month of brotherhood at once in an attempt to get further on my catch-up so I can actually follow this when it, you know, actually happening. I'll catch up some day!
I would like to thank John and Hank for introducing me to the idea of microfinancing. I can't believe I have never heard of it before! It's an amazing idea, and I feel confident that when I "donate," my money will go to good things. THANK YOU BOYS! Good for you!
Ya know what I wanna know how come alpo is one of their sponsors.. nummy euthanized cats and dogs and horse meat, if they list chicken beef and lamb as ingridents then go on to list "meat" that tends to make me wonder what the meat is..
I am going to do this with the money that the gov't gives me back from my taxes. It probably won't even be as much as Hank donated but it will go towards something.
That is so nice! I wish I could do the same, but I have my own poverty situation. It is called "donate your return to the brother to get him off of mom's couch". He bought a camper so hopefully he will soon be living in a van down by the river.
This is one of the best things that came out of this project. You made me aware of this opportunity. People are increasing their quality of life thanks to these opportunities.
I'm really considering doing this. I'm only 18, and I don't have a job, but I do have money saved. Not a lot, but enough. And all it's doing now is sitting there, getting however much interest it gets. But I'm absolutely sure the feeling that accompanies helping people get their start in life is worth so, so much more than that.
Also also: It's hard, but so vitally important, to imagine others complexly. Lots of damage can be done and opportunities missed by neglecting to do so. Like John said in a later video, "in our minds, it becomes this formulation. 'We' should help 'them'. But it's not a 'them' problem, it's an 'us' problem. We need to help us."
I'm glad you brought up the fact that those in poverty are still people. I've met quite a number of homeless people and most of them are awesome people.
You could totally put some money aside for a few months and then donate that, and when you get it back, you can loan it to someone else! And then when they pay that back, you can loan it out again! Wow...I cant wait til I get paid. Awesome!
i went with my school to monti cristi on a community service trip to teach english, and i totally agree... seeing that way of life makes you feel grateful for what you have! it was surprising to me how happy the people were, even though they were in really crappy situations.. they mostly just chilled and said hi to the people that walked by. it was an awesome experience!
It makes me very happy that this was posted on my birthday. I emailed my dad the link to Kiva, and I'm going to insist that donating money is my birthday present. This makes me happy.
... I'm redundant, but we can be redundant when we're helping people.
I spent another night watching Q2. Priceless as I've come to expect now... and a lot more things are making sense. Sadly, the new week is upon us, and I actually have to do work, so Q3 and Q4 might have to wait a week. But I'll be watching your new stuff in the meantime!
I really hope your newfound popularity with the youtube population increases awareness of microfinancing those women. I haven't watched all of your more recent videos, so I dunno if you have already done this, but maybe you could bring it up again? Just a quick mentioning...if even just one new nerd fighter loaned money it would at least be something, right? ^_^ Use your new rock star power for good, not evil. Or something like that.

Hank, don't take this the wrong way, but..had you spent a little more time watching news programs, reading world magazines, saved a little bit of your transformer money, and went on a mission or something, this wouldn't have been a shocker to you that the less fortunate are just regular people. Also, a little less sugar in the morning is strongly encouraged. Onto your next video! lmaoooo

Hank, you aren't alone in your assumptions of impoverished peoples. This is the most major hurdle we face, getting over our superiority complexes. We all deserve to have a helping hand, so thanks for getting the word out.
I'm trying not to be too ashamed by it...it's not something I ever thought about before. And I feel like the way poverty is portrayed in the media, and even by some non-profits, promotes that midset. It's almost like "you wouldn't kick a puppy would you? then give us a dollar." Instead of, look, here's a person who's just like you, and all she wants is an opportunity.
