  • Love her water ring!!! 1:01

  • Come to my bed

  • Pulp *-* Is Fantastic! Come To Chile Please! ♥

  • His dad's a radio DJ called Mac Cocker actually, who once did this thing where he made listeners believe he was Joe Cocker's brother. And also both Joe and Jarvis were born in Sheffield. It would be hilarious if Joe were Jarvis' dad though :)

  • Missed this performance first time 'round, awesome stuff...

  • well,...my eyes kinda scare me now...

  • Kind of unsettling lyrics, yes (do a search on "pulp little girl with blue eyes" and you'll find them at mp3 lyrics) that have the feel of a Scott Walker song.

  • pulp was first band i saw live at the gradn ol' age of 8 with my dad (good times)

  • gostoso!

  • This song is super sad.For so many reasons. For Jarvis to write a song about his dead beat dad.(my intuitions say its Joe Cocker) then to be able to sing about him skipping out is so strong and powerful. The look of sadness on his face as he picks up the babydoll (baby jarvis) So sad.

  • the way he holds his microphone.. he's a legend :)

  • OMG

  • I wish Jarvis was my baby ;)

  • This was the first Pulp song i heard, at the age of 12. I was sneaking around my sister's room and stole a homebrewed cassette from her dressing table. The tracks i remember are: Stiff Little Fingers - Alternative Ulster Pistols - Bodies Tenpole Tudor -Swords of a Thousand Men Adam and the Ants - Ant Music Pulp - Little Girl with Blue Eyes Breeders - Cannonball Where is my Mind - Pixies Debaser - Pixies The music that i heard on that cassette opened my eyes to what music could be.
  • @fizzb100 is your sister single

  • Awesome Jarvis

  • To throw something else into the discussion, I'd say that the lyrics show Jarvis consistently having some empathy/understanding for the interests of women in relationships. A foreshadowing of "Don't Let Him Waste Your Time."

  • In the beginning, the way he holds the microphone makes me laugh, between two fingers :D You're so original Jarvis :D

  • ok what's w/tha doll?

  • So you want lyrics that stick to bland, happy and normal things? People who like that sort of stuff are twisted in my opinion.

  • First of all, I don't care what some fuckwit who enjoys listening to Evanescence has to say about music. People like you murder music. Your pledge to musicians to sanitise their lyrics is sickening. Listen to Radio, Radio by Elvis Costello. You could easily be the subject of the song. And Maxwell's Silver Hammer by The Beatles has three murders in it. But you'd probably miss that because you're too thick. Get lost you transparent, reactionary square.

  • You don't have to get rude with me. I was just stating my opinion. I don't care if the beatles have murders in their songs, it really doesn't matter to me! Honestly, it's just that I find these lyrics discomforting. And just because I listen to evanescence doesn't mean I'm a "fuckwit", you asshole. Being someone who was sexual abused when they were super young, it just doesn't make me the happiest camper to hear what he's singing. And I don't want to sanitize lyrics, thank you. Get educated.

  • Well, seeing as getting educated is your mantra, why don't you investigate the background to this song first before passing judgement? The lyrics don't allude to sexual abuse. The lyric "There's a hole in your heart and one between your legs/You'll never have wonder which one he's going to fill" is about a girl who's in a relationship where the guy is more concerned with sex than 'filling' her heart. In fact, the song is allegedly about his mother who wasn't planning on having him so young.

  • I agree with you , JJ, but what makes this song (what I consider to be) good is that the lyrics express that sentiment sound a bit racy...with a lot of Pulp songs I've heard, it's the juxtaposition of, how can I say, "nice" emotions and sentiments with filthy, almost depraved lyrics. You are totally right, I think, about what this song means, but you have to admit the way it's said is a bit dirty. Which is what makes Jarvis Cocker a great lyricist, in my opinion.

  • insert another "that" between "lyrics" and "express" and my comment will make marginally more sense.

  • P.S. I'm sorry about what happened to you but I really do think you're barking up the wrong tree.

  • Yeah, I figured. Sorry for my misjudgment about the song meaning. And calling you an asshole. Sorry. I love you. Goodbye.

  • i think he's ok with you now you said you love him

  • I'd certainly hope so. :]

  • pint of cider on a wednesday morining in a dingy dark pub with a few mates listening to real britpop like this, classic. Last of a dying breed

  • hmmmm

  • Why do people like you always assume the narrator of the lyrics is condoning what's happening. If you were to apply your dumb principle to all arts, all authors and musicians would be extreme schizophrenics.

  • Only an ass ever 'assumes', which you have clearly done on this occasion!

Not sure what planet you are on but you have many issues that you need to address! Perhaps it's you and your ''dumb principles'' that are at fault! Or do you think your right all the time? Lets hope maturity (presumably you have some way to go yet) will eventually come your way soon......I have my doubts.

  • Well, you certainly can't be right. Just because you find some lyrics a bit distasteful doesn't mean it should be hidden from view. Your argument is so plain and nondescript too. Too many people play the 'maturity' card with me. All your argument has summed up to is a weedy patronising attack against me. You haven't explained why you think the lyrics are sick. No doubt you'll come up with some irrelevant and spurious claims.

  • lots of Gainsbourg's attitude and humour in there. brilliant

  • Their early stuff from 80s was better than their later stuff.

  • You're talking fucking shite son.

  • I really hope Jarvis made plenty of money from Pulp & his solo records. He certainly deserves to be rewarded for such genius... not ever having to worry about money would be a very fiiting reward indeed!

  • i lo ve you coker

  • cocker

  • Wow. I remember watching this on TV at the time. It's made me think, we have so many more channels now, and so many more music channels, yet your chances of seeing anything new and alternative as this was at the time have actually decreased.

  • Pulp so under rated.. jarvis writes some very deep lyrics they should be ranked much higher on any all time list.

  • @kidaok00 IN my view they were much better than boh Oasis and Blur put together. They are as good as the Smiths or the Cure in my view. So many of their great early songs got the coverage when they made it big. The accoustc versions of Dogs are everywhere, Joyriders and Razzmatazz on the Common People single opened it up. It is sill a fucking dsgrace that Common People was kept off number 1 by Robson and Jerome - fucking Simon Cowell opportunist wanker.

  • As the drummer out of a butcher, not combined with the group

  • hööy, how about a re- release? Pulp could have released so many songs as singles these days that were then just disregarded.. :( I mean how many people know these wonderful songs?

  • I'M SO IN LOVE WITH JARVIS.... He's so hot!!!

  • Pure genious! Thanks for posting!!! :) Gotta love that line "There's a hole in your head and one between your legs"

  • does anyone have the origional version? never heared it.

  • It's on the "Countdown" double CD - Excellent trip through their pre-island back catalogue With a really good synopsis in the inlay. Worth getting hold of.

It's expensive on Amazon but there are quite a few well priced (sub six quid) copies floating around on Ebay.

  • "Little Girl With Blue Eyes" is also on a compilation called "Freshly Squeezed." I think it's a fairly new one and a lot cheeper than "Countdown..."

  • e-mail me if you still could not found it.

  • Jarvis could sing me to sleep any night.

  • no its not

  • love pulp, dont know what this song is about but its eerie... especially the bit wer the dolls crying.. what album is this off?? or is it a b-side??

  • This song was first released as just a single in 1985, then later made its way on to various compilations, Masters of the Universe and Countdown for examples.

  • do u know what the songs exactly about?

  • It´s about Jarvis´ mother, who lived as a hippie, when she was young. No worries, just love and travelling. But then she got a baby - Jarvis, and suddenly she had to care about somebody else, the worries came etc. I love the part of the chorus "There´s a hole in your heard and one between your legs." Brilliant :)

  • Aint this about his ma ?

  • yes it apparently is

  • Right you are. If memory serves me correctly JC found a photo of his mum when she was pregnant and heard the story of how she gave up art to be a mother. And there's also that deadbeat dad, but save for next bedtime.

  • Correct :-)

  • @glynisbug haha ur so cute.I think his dad is joe Cocker. It's my theory i'm stickin' to it.it's my intuition.

  • Utter twat.

  • You missed the fucking point Haglaz. I know an ardent Sun reader when I see one.

  • love Pulp, so damn good

  • my favorite pulp song

  • Jarvis is HOTT!!!!

  • I hate the recorded version of this song, but this one's a lot easier to listen to - I really like it, actually!

  • i love this song its one of my faves

  • Nice to see them playing a song from 10 years before.

  • i miss the gloominess of the original. it's still my favourite song by them.

  • The B-Side (Simultaneous) was even better in my opinion. But the gloom on this gives me headrush.

  • Nice rendition! A lot more listenable than the original...brighter and less gloomy.

  • Great song... Steve looks very handsome I love Him I^LL BE YOUR WIFE.... (Is my idea or Candida loves the rings jajajaja)

  • I thought the same xDDD

  • "Little girl with blue eyes/There's a hole in your heart/And one between your legs/You've never had to wonder which one he's going to fill in spite of what he said" (8)

    lol

  • Best song by them by far. Brings back memories =D

  • Jarvis is God

  • One of my favourite Pulp songs ever
