Americans do acquire the accent, it's not deliberate. When Brits are in America for awhile, the same thing happens to them. They start sounding slightly less Brit, and slightly more American... it's all in what the ear hears and relates to the brain on a regular basis. The person is usually not even aware of the change, unless someone points it out to them.

and first and foremost, there is no such thing as a 'british accent'. we don't all sound the same since there's four countries that make up the UK.

if kate did indeed pick up that god awful accent she would have had to hung around people with a similar one for a long time but nobody sounds like her in the UK at all... so she's clearly putting on

@Cla900 there's only one country in the ORIGINAL britain (england), in great britain there's three (scotland, wales and england) in the UK there's four - parts of countries anyway (N. ireland, scotland, wales and england). i suggest you brush up on your geography before you start making stupid comments.

i'm british too and she's got some sort of an accent based on an english (london) one. whether it's from her putting it on to sound refined or hanging out with friends doesn't matter.
