  • I was waiting for the camera to turn around and there would be John. XD

  • The song here is Left For Dead, long before the vocals were recorded. It's funny because he screws up the bass line to the My Wife pastiche at the end, which is ironic as he wrote it...... Gives you a brief glimpse of the life of John though which was clearly incredible. The shoddy camera work was done by Steve Luongo, and wasn't meant for public consumption it's a HOME MOVIE. He released this because it seemed fitting for the Ox's Tale film, and I for one - am glad that he did!

  • Roger and John were living in big mansions, Pete never did..He came back for THE WHO for them, to enable them to live this lifestyle..But he did it for love and friendship too..

  • very cool house! where was that?

  • @ubbuu John Entwistle lived in a 52-room Victorian gothic mansion called Quarwood in the village of Lower Swell in Gloucestershire where he immersed himself in local life often making appearances in local events. I bumped into him on a number of occasions and even played on stage with him once. A notorious spender (he owned a fleet of classic cars even though he couldn't drive), the house and its contents were auctioned off in 2005 to meet the considerable death duties.

  • Cruel to be kind?

  • he seems like he had a good sense of humour and i suppose now i think it was cool how he died

  • john entwistle is the best bassist ever.

  • Long live "The Ox" !

  • the beatles were shit, the who were ace,the doors were better than the beatles.i rate a couple though such as helter skelter and rain, maybee ticket to ride, but thats all.

  • @guitarnashelter Based on what?

  • @LeonEyedass based on me. do you want to be flayed across a gun carrage?

  • @guitarnashelter What is wrong with you?

  • i love to viddy these rare clips of such a pioneer

  • wow hes whackin the life out of that guitar and lookin ever so casual

  • So where do Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter, Dominic Di Piaza, Kai Eckhardt, Victor Wooten fit in your miopic vision of bass talent.

  • Living a Jagger lifestyle on a smaller income.

  • paul mc cartneywas never a bass player.good muso very talented but never a bass player a millionlite years away from the right hohnerable JOHN ENTWISTLE

  • @21luke45 "macca was never a bass player"..? Lordy, Lordy, what planet are you from, bubba? ;-) These endless ball busting "discussions" about who´s the best this and that. Grow up already. Enjoy the music. And the enormous talents of The Ox, Macca, NHOP, Geddy, Victor W, Mark King...and all the rest. Listen to them. The bigger a musician is, the more he laughs at any feeble attempt at rank. "It´s the music, stupid."

    Peace out.

  • @ColJedburgh I don't know about half of those bassists you mentioned... Geddy, Macca and the Ox are the ones I've heard of. And no mention of Chris Squire? Really?

  • Ginormous smile.Everyone misses Him...

  • hahahahahhah

  • Is it possible to be only 21 and "miss" Ent??? :(

  • @BeMyBelarus *Is fourteen and does*

  • @BeMyBelarus Yeh man! I'm 23 and I reckon we lost one of the best bass players in the world! It ain't about who's best...he stood there and played like a demon, and that's his lasting legacy. I play bass guitar and there's so many times when playing that i think...what would Entwistle do??? Haha. x

  • The transition at 1:38 is stunning...when he goes from practicing a relatively tricky bit of an unfamiliar song to My Wife that he's played a thousand times...when he looks up at 1:43 you can practically see him feeling himself on stage again. So long, John...I'll never shake your hand again.

  • r.i.p. john entwistle. the greatest bassist of all time!

  • whats the song that starts at 0:35, it sounds nice, could someone please tell me

  • @Flippinflopperstein and @eveningtsar, the song at 0:34-1:38 is "Left for Dead", a track on the John Entwistle's Band's "Music from Van-Pires" CD, now out of print (but that track's available on youtube at present). Enjoy :-).

  • @notanotheraccount Thankyou very much

  • I love him. DX

  • What a nerve! That guy behind the camera shouting "Put your glasses back on"! I wanna yell at him "Don't you talk to the Ox like that!"

  • @linksfraulein lol that "guy behind the camera" was his very good friend, steve luongo, the drummer of the john entwistle band...

  • Thats one hell of a house!

  • Anyone know which piece he was playing 0:34 - 1:38? It sounds like a meddley of Who songs, but I don't recognize that section. It was beautiful. . .

  • @eveningtsar yeah, I want to know what that soung is too, it sous great

  • That's the theme from Bonanza at the beginning

  • RIP The Ox :(

  • I think Entwistle deliberately showed the middle finger, while playing, because he enjoyed it.

  • @rykowolf yeah

  • To even mention McCartney in the same sentence with The Ox as bass players is fucking absurd.

  • @FIERO871 Totally true

  • King of the 4 strings!

  • who the hell is behind the camera? here he has great access to one of the legends of rock music and he is making the terrible shots and pointless commentary that just about every amateur does in their crappy home movies.

  • @fudgesauce Because most of it was a crappy home movie.

  • @fudgesauce Its his son.

  • hes just the greatest bass guitarist of all time!!!!!!!!!!

  • John Entwistle was better than Paul MCcartney

  • and keith is way better than ringgo, and townshends way better than george harrison

  • @majinbunda

I disagree, Townshend just bangs out power chords with his volume cranked.

He is a fantastic songwriter though.

  • great songwriter, but in my opininon hes relly sdhit outta guitar player even compared with manny guitar player from today music, and i desagree that he just play power chords with a volume crancked, couse i think hes good.

    but good noticing in there

  • @Verbeke1992

That's not really true, he had plenty of songs with great lead guitar playing.

  • ringo was a terrrible drummer

all he ever played was the basic beat that all people who just started to leartn drums could leartn in a few days.

  • @christianconefery You're right. Zach is much better than his dad because he learned from Keith Moon.

  • but paul mccartney's bass playing was very distinctive as it was mainly walking bass. if you compare them, you can hear that entwhistles bass playing really has come from the roots of paul's but john is just soloing over the top of it all the time.

  • @kd0duj Two different styles. Incomparable.

  • @kd0duj Technically, yes. But entwistle was influenced by mcCartney. His Beatle work is actually very creative.

  • @kd0duj there is no comparison john was thunderfingers.

  • @kd0duj Haha I didn't even think to draw the comparison...but yea now that I think about Entwistle was leagues better

  • @kd0duj ...Ooooo, Thats a hard one??? I think john found himself working hard at it because of Moon.

  • @kd0duj ???????? Its musicians youre talking about,,,, not the olympic games.

  • @kd0duj Your not wrong! The arseholes always get the limelight! He got bass player of the millenium though! After macca had got bass of the year awards going back to the 60s.

God bless you John! May you rest in peace knowing you were the master! The quiet one! Still water runs deep watch out I dont drown you!!

  • @kd0duj WHOlly must see differently there but Entwistle was indeed way faster by miles! But just different bass players, I just have to admire Paul's holding-it-togetherness in his ''walking" bass style as well. John was undeniably amazing....so true.

  • @kd0duj ..two totally diffrent styles...I thought they were both great... two of my top two bass players..paul was good on ..bass drums piano guitar and singing..

  • "put your glasses back on!"

    Shut the F up!

  • that skeleton thingy made me laugh XD

    yeeesh that white dog...ITS HUGE!

  • way more out going than the other docs make you think

  • n° 1 forever! Rest in noise Mr Entwistle! you are sadly missed!

  • No wonder the legand was in financial debt in his later life, his house is huge :)

  • Apparently in the early days he was always looking for money from management , because he spent so much on clothes! mr style R.I.P. a legend !

  • does anybody the name of the song in this clip and where i can get it?

  • I like the smashed Buzzard bass on the wall.

  • Whats the name of the song starting at 0:35?

  • Left For Dead

  • I'm surprised he was able to keep that house and all the trappings with all the supposed financial troubles he had. I watched the Amazing Journey movie and Pete and Roger said part of the reason the got together sporadically was to help him out. Pete said he was handed 2-3 million dollar checks for these tour and he blew his money.

hahaha the disgusted face he makes at 1 :50 when he hits a bad note...always the perfectionist! It's sad he's gone but he went out living the life he loved R.I.P.

  • Interesting that the money sold from his basses and belongings went to the taxman. None for his son, Christopher.

  • nevermind boris the spider i think he was talking about his hands they are like a sider all over the bass

  • he used the thinest gauge strings (observe how slinky on this vid) not to negate he was a taxman-- oops. it hardly seems like a rich mans life... sorry john.

  • Rotosound Swing bass 66 strings. He developed them.

  • John died 7 years ago today:(

R.I.P John Entwistle, you will be missed

  • wow what a home! anyone know what ever happened to the drummer Steve Luongo and the guitar player Godfrey Townshend of the John Enwistle Band? They were great and really nice guys. I hope they are well.

  • They play with Jack Bruce from Cream sometimes.

  • who cares lol

  • about what!?

  • do you know wich song is he playing?

  • "Have you seen this new book about The Who?"

    Classic!!

  • whats it called and were can you get it.

    thanks.

  • I find it creepy the way the guy behind the camera is talking to himself, at the end.

  • yeah, a polar bear rug, god damn, how much money did he have, to have a endangered spieces rug? he prolly killed it with his loud bass playing. thats how i wanna go, i want john to bust my eardrums playing, RIP john.

  • polar bear rug???that s a bit rich,, apparently J.E

had very expensive tastes , way beyond his bank balance THE WHO had to tour twice in the nineties to bail him out..

  • yeah, still... isnt it illegal to kill a polar bear? he prolly had it forever then.

  • 0:34 Left for Dead part of the song

  • His mansion must be haunted, because I just saw that chair behind him moved by it self!!, and I never believed in ghosts either!!, until now!

  • yeah, saw that 2,.... really wierd, ghost the moonie, i think.

  • wow i noticed that too

    lol

  • the ox smashed his bass twice (that i have heard of). once in 1970 and again at madison square garden, mid 70's, on a night that also saw a jovial(?) townshend obliterate at least two of his guitars. he then gave yet another to moonie so he could do the honours. if there is film of that, i think we'd all like to see it!!

  • ...The Polar Bear Rug. He has the Polar Bear Rug. :0

  • John is MORE ANIMATED sitting in his living room than he ever was in concert - strange

  • did i see two toilets on the toilet? well why not :)

  • one's a bidet...

  • Christmas violation...

    lol

  • what is that at 5:41

  • Comment removed

  • I didn't think he ever smashed his bass.

    I guess I was wrong.

  • no - you are correct

That bass is a late 90's model - so it is NOT from his early career -it must have been one that he smashed just for the sake of framing like that. He never smashed a bass - even early on.

  • Oh ok. I was wondering because I was like I have never seen him smash a bass. But if he did I would have wanted to see that.

  • That bass is a late 90's model - so it is NOT from his early career -it must have been one that he smashed just for the sake of framing like that. He never smashed a bass - even early on.

  • man that guy or whoever was one lucky person to have his Autograph lol

  • The polar bear rug?

  • The polar bear rug.....

  • easily the best bassist who ever lived

  • Thee best. Simply.

  • Entwistle - Best Bassist

    Moon - Best Drummer

Townshend - Best Guitarist & Writer

    Daltrey - Best Frontman

    The Who - Best

  • Page-Most overrated

  • No - Page was the best. He couldn't always play notes as fast as he think them - but you can tell what he was going for - otherwise he was the best.

  • Eh, I just saw Page as kind of typical. Don't get me wrong he's fun as hell to listen to, but he wasn't very innovative. I don't give a shit how fast he plays really, but for number one I dig Hendrix. It's really a matter of opinion though. Page riffs are my favorite though =]

  • Oh yeah, no doubt. That has been my argument all along, to say that the Who have to be one of the best if not the greatest of all time! Although, their ideas for songs and stuff clashed a lot, they still came together eventually to produce quality music. And to think they were even BETTER live! Hmm, I just can't see any way, how these guys CAN'T be the best!

  • @audreyauto I think Mick Jagger is a better singer and frontman than Daltrey

  • @kpax45 Better frontman, yes. Not a better singer.

  • @audreyauto i wouldnt say petes the best guitarist but beast writer

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug

  • I'll say

  • I met John in 1987 and again nine years later. He was a true English gentleman (read- controlled madness).

God rest you John- you mad dog.

  • what an amazzing musician! hes missed by all!

  • i SO wish i couldve met john! he was amazing. i loved the relationship he and keith had. <3 unfortunately, i was only 5 when he died. :'(

  • I really l♥ve this man!

  • you said it !AMEN!

  • my dad had the please to meet mr. entwistle before he died. what a great man he was. you could see the passion he had for music in the beginning and all through his career

  • I wish I could have met Mr. Entwistle - he seemed so nice and really funny! I completly understand why Roger was so upset and misses him so much!

  • one of the best bassists in the world totally underrated

  • That dog is bloody huge!

  • I remember the first time I heard "Live at Leeds" and one side of the stereo was out so all could hear was bass, drums....Unbelievable! and he used a pick on a lot of those tracks.....

  • Where can I see this documentary in full? What channel was it on? Is it on DVD?

  • Yes, it is on Dvd. It's a great film about a great man and definitely worth watching!

And you can get "John Entwistle: An Ox's Tale" almost every place that sells dvds, i got it for pretty cheap at amazon.

  • Entwistle was the best bassist in many ways, he'll never be topped, he just won't.

  • were you friends with john entwistle xaz77

  • i only wish!!!...as stated in the info its from "John Entwistle: An Ox's Tale".

  • big johnny twinkle.r.i.p.

  • Idk about that statement....I love jack and Cream but John tops him in my book.

  • in response to jack bruce....what?

  • fuck off

jake9000000000000000 entwistle is the gr8est bassist ever

  • Who is the american guy with the cam?

It's kinda creepy the way He's going around John house filming different rooms.

Then saying stuff like,'this is going on the internet'.

I've seen all this film and it seems to me John is very drunk most of the time.

Don't blame him really being surrounded by stupid American arse kissers , including his stupid groupie wife.

GOD BLESS YOU JOHN YOU'RE ONE OF A KIND>

  • It's longtime friend, and drummer of "JEB" Steve Luongo. It's his home movies of john and his home. And what's wrong with Americans?

  • What was so godly is that he did this one four strings!! The people with six or five string basses couldn't even pull of what Entwistle did on four! RIP thunderfingers.

  • one of my few idols....

  • the man who invented Rock Bass

  • DANG What a big ass dog!

  • Hands down the best. Plenty of others that are/were great players but John was top of the class.

  • Man, he really makes it look so easy.

  • MY WIIIIIFE !

He wasn't aka John "Thunderfinger" Entwistle for nothing, mate !

  • he was actually faster than the drummer!

  • i dun know it for sure

  • Bassplayer of the century.

  • Of the mmillennium!

  • Appreciate the talent! (everyone has bad habits...)

  • Seemed like such a friendly bloke hey? Would have loved to hang out with him and play music all day.

  • Thurderfingers Is A Legend

  • The Ox.

    There never will be another.

All you wankers are just wannabes. Yer too young to understand want John brought to the previously lowly life of a bass player.

Bless you John. I had the pleasure to meet you twice and you were most humble.

  • you bastard, i wouldve done anything to meet him. RIP

  • I love his sense of humour - practicing shooting with Daltrey solo albums,

and dying on the night before a Who tour -

    the guy had great style!

    R.I.P.

  • Damn! I want giant dogs like that.

  • well look for a irish wolfhound then

  • Thought I saw Godfrey Townsend

  • He seems like a sweet guy.

  • We miss you Thunderfingers. Thanks for the great video!

  • Big Giant Whistle.
