Why anyone would say this is a lie is beyond me. "The Outback Oven" works on the same principle defused heat, (the rocks on this oven) a pot and reflector. I've made numerous coffee cakes while backpacking. And the "oven" in this video does fit in your pocket. The stove part may not, but it is still smaller than a lot of backpacking stoves.
Thanks for taking the time to make this creative video.
timmie, dont know about you, but whilst out in the field i'ld rather not run the risk of slicing my wrists with a piece of foil. There is only so light you can go before becoming a danger to yourself.
Description says how to cook with stuff that will fit in your pocket, but then he goes on to add a bunch of other crap like that wire mesh thing and the container to mix up the batter in. Seems like it would be a helluva lot easier to bring a jetboil stove with you.
It says a folding pot and oven that will fit in your pocket, which it would.
That 'other crap' is the stove, potstand and Heiny tin which you'd be carrying with you on the trail anyway, and as for the stones, oooh, where would you find those on the trail, hmmmm tricky, well thought out response!
@papercuts777 no just buy the heavy duty flat pans and cut off the edges, no flatening to speak of. You can line with buttered brown paper or wax paper and its ready to go.
Great Video. Here is a idea for you. instead of putting the water and mix in your cooking pot,put the water into the bag that the mix is in and mix it up in there. then pour into the cake pan. It will save time from not having to wash yout cook pot and water if you are in a limited water area. Hope this helps. Hamm 336
This is a great way to cook on the trail. Also try the aluminum foil cupcake tins. They work great and you don't need to do the oragami. An old pot with some rocks in the bottom and your good.
I thought cooking with aluminum foil was bad for you. Because when aluminum foil gets really hot or burned it can give off chemicals that cause all sorts of health problems. Am I right or am I wrong??????
if you have a pc, thats the noise it makes when there is a device that has been disconnected from the usb port.... well.... old windows version like wondows xp.
thats not real foil

@minibulldesign It's a reference to a game Portal. So when someone says the cake is a lie.....well you have to play the game.

"Have you ever tried to bake a cake in a jet boil ?"
I did, and it works. But you gotta be really careful or turn it into a briquette.
The trick is to turn it into a double boiler (foil!) and steam, then toast the cake.
