Whatever people! It's Journey. Who doesn't know Journey? Shut up about right or wrong. Let Lincoln Brewster play songs that he's played on tour that "everyone who has an ear" has heard. That way when he plays music for God it has the ears of that many more people. Take it from someone who knows... Lincoln will reach more people if they know where he's been.
How powerful would the testimony of a blind man healed by Jesus have been if he never told anyone he was first blind?
"TheGreatScottMan" stated Journey music was antichrist and demon-inspired. Steve Perry (main songwriter for Journey), and lyrics is not demonic. Journey was not running around doing drugs, getting drunk or screwing groupies. Steve Perry is known for being wholesome, didn't drink, smoke, do drugs, or run around with women. Perry's gift is from God and it blesses & inspires. ."TheGreatScottMan" needs to do his homework before displaying rudeness, ignorance and lack of love. Not much humility!
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
@121jigawatts I'm with ya on the bible verse that we should not look back, but could you show me where, in particular, these verses does it imply that looking back, "hinders" Gods work?
Also Haukmann66, I do understand the importance of telling others what Jesus has delivered us from, but I don't know about you, I'm ashamed of my past and even present mistakes. I have found Biblical grounds to support why looking back can be dangerous and hinder God's work. The Apostle Paul makes light of this in Philippians chapter 3...
@121jigawatts Well, like I said, we are talking about a song he used to play years ago. He could just as well, talk about a restaraunt he used to go eat at. The song is not sinful in and of itself. Also, you make the point, that by "looking back, can hinder Gods work". I do not agree. God is sovereign, and He will accomplish His will in our lives. He has even ordained our steps, and the works we do. All honor and praises go to Him!
@121jigawatts Here are the lyrics to the song Lincoln was playing: When the lights go down in the city And the sun shines on the bay I want to be there in my city Ooh, ooh So you think you’re lonely Well my friend I’m lonely too I want to get back to my city by the bay Ooh, ooh It’s sad, oh there’s been mornings out on the road without you, Without your charms, Ooh, my, my, my I dont see anything evil in these lyrics.
@Haukman66 Well you have a point. Afterall, it's not Slayer! Again, I was generalizing in my statement. It was not an attack on Lincoln Brewster, Journey or you for that matter. While I can't find anything blatantly evil with these lyrics I can't find how they edify God or the listener either. Can you? Don't you feel that secular music CAN be a deadly tool in the hands of Satan? Again, I'm not talking about this song, or video. I'm just trying to see where you stand on the issue.
@121jigawatts I used to listen to Slayer, and music like that. I do most definatly think secular music can be a tool for satan. I dont listen to most secular music anymore. The ones i do reminisce on, I am, or try to be discerning with. As far as edifying God, I can list many things that we do throughout our day, that are not edifying to God. We are still in this flesh, that we deal with. I think we should be careful. But songs like that one, I dont see anything wrong with.
We must remember that Satan's greatest tool is music considering his position in heaven before the fall of man. We have to be really careful what we hear and that Bible makes that clear in the book of Mark. However, there should be no condemning of ANY kind. How can we expect the unbeliever to be empowered to live any differently? On the flip-side, Christians ARE expected to live differently which means being judgemental, unless of course you yourself are perfect, is mere hypocracy.
@121jigawatts Kinda confused by your comment. Are you legalist too? Of course we are to live differently. What does that have to do with Lincoln playing 30 seconds of a song he used to play? He was giving part of his testimony, and what do we do when we give our testimony? We talk about our former life!
@Haukman66 My comment was general and was not directed at anybody. I am a legalist and find myself constantly needing to go to Jesus to be more like Him. Do I like being judgemental? No, but it comes naturally for my flesh even though I have quite a testimony of the things Jesus has brought me through. I feel that many Christians, especially in America, act as if they have some sense of entitlement to judge others. Even your comment has an air of finger pointing. Re-read my first statement.
@121jigawatts Thats why I asked you the question. I wasnt pointing a finger at you. I just couldnt figure, if you were saying I was "hypocritical". No harm done. I agree, we are to be separate, but usually, when someone starts pointing the finger at something as trivial as whats here of this short clip, it is a little too legalistic. Its time to take a look in the mirror. Thats all I am saying. God bless.
@TheGreatScottMan you're such an idiot. you're the kind of uptight christian who asks God which outfit to wear in the morning and if the Cheerios will be more blessed with or without milk. Get a grip dude and stop being a judgmental pharisee.
You're wound pretty tight dude. Loosen your clerical collar and realize that these "impressionable youth" are hearing and seeing a man who has a past (don't we all)...If I listen to you tell me in words about your testimony, whatever that might be, is it any different than Brewster speaking his through music. God is working through musicians like Lincoln Brewster and many others for His glory!!
GreatScottMan, I don't want to be a jerk, but you're a tool.
It's people like you that make non-believers want to have nothing to do with our faith. People don't want the fire and brimstone thing; it's only pushing them away. You need to climb off your little pony and learn to love people the way Jesus did. Not through condemnation but through love and example.
And maybe, just maybe, you're not so "great," are you?
You really need to look in the mirror. I don't go to church all the time, but I am a christian and if there is one thing I hate is when christian extremist believe that if you don't live every waking minute based on what god would do then you are evil. There are 10 commandments to live life by. As long as you live your life for god and follow the commandments he will forgive you. In this world it is impossible to live life sin free. Please stop being hypocritical and evaluate yourself for once
ummm...we are saved by grace not by works...works are a result of our faith. just cuz we are imperfect does not mean we should give up in striving to be more like Christ who WAS perfect. because of our imperfection, trying to live a "10 commandment" life IN AND OF ITSELF will fail. we are saved by grace because we are incapable of saving ourselves
Wow if only we could hear what god thinks of your opinions ScottMan, Judge not lest ye be judged yourself. For someone who claims not to know of other music than godly music you sure seem certain that journeys music is of the devil. I wonder how one would know that if you don't concern yourself with that "EVIL MUSIC" The song lights is singing about being back home in his city by the bay. What is so wrong with wanting to be back at home where you came from and all your loved ones are. Continued
I agree. I do also agree, that some music is not glorifying God, but he just played part of a song, that I would in no way classify 'evil'. He was actually giving his testimony, and played 30 secs. of a song he used to play. Big deal. No harm done. Take care.
So you're one of those "All or nothing", "Black or White" sort of people? If its not from God its from the Devil, am I right? so if I wrote a love song for my girlfriend its from ME.. its not a christian song, nor is it demonic. Since God is love would a love song from a non-christian be of God or of the devil? I think the devil sometime uses a persons religion against them for condemnation and guilt.. clearly that is the case with you. I bet you're a baptist! :p
how can you even be a good musician if you don't appreciate music from non-Christian's? Each person has their own God given and talent and if you can't accept someone because they aren't Christian then you are doing exactly the opposite of what Jesus would do. Did you ever stop to think that Jesus hung out with sinners? He didn't only spend time in the church and around only Christians.
Why are you so uptight? Jesus was once in the world. Would you call him worldly as well? I don't think God looks at Journey or any "secular" artist and places condemnation on them for creating music. God gave them their gift to be able to play great music. Just because it doesn't have the word "Jesus" or "God" in each line of the song doesn't make it demonic or turn people away from God. You should open your mind and realize how to make yourself more appealing to unbelievers and believers alike.
I like how TheGreatScottMan thinks he knows what kind of music is going to be played in Heaven...and how he seems to know whether or not Lincoln Brewster is a true ambassador of Christ.
Dude, I dont listen to secular Rock music anymore. I really dont listen to alot of Christian music anymore. But if there is a song, that is a decent song, that is not evil in anyway, I dont have a problem with it. Thanks for your opinion, but you dont know how to take a hint. You are blocked.
Dude, no need to quote scripture to me. I know what it says. Do you watch TV? Do you go to the grocery store, and go through the check out line? Im sure you commit sin just in those two things. And as I said, the song is not demonic in anyway. Where you came up with them as being demonic is beyond me. Sounds a little like too much fundamentalism to me. But you are entitled to your opinion. However, it wont be on my videos, if it continues. ;)
I agree with you in one aspect. But I dont see the problem of playing one verse of a secular song, that is not ungodly. He was letting the crowd know who he used to play with, Steve Perry from Journey. It was part of his testimony. Not a big deal. The song was not Anti Christ.
did Lincoln Brewster really used to play for Journey? I heard something about that but could somebody verify? like was he one of the original members or something?
