  • I live here in wa. state and the columbia is used quite alot for grain and timber transport.Theres quite a large number of grain elevators on the river.Cargill and Midco. own most and ship oversea,s from here to japan, egypt, ect. Each dam on the columbia has locks to allow barge passage. The dams on the lower part have raise and lower the barges up to 75 feet. Also the as many wind turbines that they have set up here in the northwest they are still unable to rely on them for all the wind generation.
