The downfall if .50 became the standard and the demand goes up the price will also go up. We had 50 cal paintballs before and they were phased out in favor of the 68. Now SP (GI Milsim) and other companies are relying on the fact that this generation of Paintballers don't know that they're being sold old technology as new. If you think this is better, you're a sucker.

I think its a terrible idea. the only reason i would use .50 cal paintballls is that they "were 35% cheaper" as chris said. I would have to buy a new conversion kit for a 08 ego, a PE barrel kit,and a new rotor conversion kit. ALOT of money just to shoot a smaller paintball....

.68 won out in the past, it will win out again. That and there are an overwhelming majority of people who have invested in .68 markers and equipment there is no way .50 can come into a dying sport and both make money, and influence others to switch out their .68's.

The important thing is to get away from ramping / enhanced modes.

What about the small fields. Wont they struggle with having to carry 2 types of field paint. My local field has had a very bad year, and had to sell off a ton of older paint at cost just so he wouldn't have to throw it away. If you add an entirely new paint in the mix you will a much harder time anticipating the demands of the your local market. It seams like the infrastructure is to large, and to fragile for this to happen at this time, but that's just me.

Great question. From what we've heard, the idea is a slow transition from .68 to .50 for fields. It would cost money to buy new .50 cal rental equipment, but the savings in the long-run would more than make up for the investment. Since 50 cal is cheaper, field rental packages would be cheaper and people could shoot more paint for less cost. The force behind it is less so kids wouldn't get all welted up their first time out. Parents pay less and kids come home happier and come back more often.

The pros for .50 are: more paint per case, less cost per ball for people and fields to buy. The force behind a .50 ball is less that a .68 ball so they hurt less and make it better for new players and people scared of getting welts. The lessened joules of force also opens up a lot of countries in Europe to paintball. Now, paintball markers are considered "guns" and outlawed many places. .50 cal markers can be called "toys" and be used in many more new countries.
