@hawkplaya94 You tap on them to make sure they have positive pressure, they run on a hydraulic system that uses the fuel as the fluid. If you tap them and they close, then something is not supplying pressure. They don't get hot, so you can touch them while the engines are online.

Im a sea cadet right now and I also want to be a pilot. Physics isnt all that bad for me, I always have trouble with geometry and math. Physics is just like memorization but math is like applying formulas and theorems... I hate it -_-

the reason why the designations are confusing is simple.
The "F" stands for fighter, the "4" (or any other number) stands for the fourth design made from that specific design company (McDonnell Douglas, Grumman etc) Thats why you have the F4F wildcat and F4U Corsair. Although the "U" in the Corsair stands for the Chance Vought aircraft company.

Hey budy this is a navy plane and i dont know about how they do it in the UK but here we dont randomly drop the arrestor hooks on the ground crew and thats why it doesnt matter if crew members walk under them . This superhornet wouldnt even need a pilot to take out one of those UK F3 tornados.
is there a need for the retarded waving of the aircrew when taxiing?? and also the groundcrew have lots of stupid moves too. and dangerously walk under tailerons (which can kill u if the move while ur under there) and also touching the arrestor hook.. im a flight line mechanic on tornado F3s in the RAF and we dont go under the back end after the safety pins are out (which is pre crew strap-in) and in the UK we use 2 men to see the jet off,not several like the USAF
yes THERE IS A PURPOSE FOR EVERYTHING DONE ON THE GROUND YOU MORON. When the aircrew is working around the jet the pilot has his hands OFF THE CONTROLS. Of course you knew that. The motions with the hands are HAND SIGNALS. Communications with the pilots. Have you ever watched aircraft carrier flight operations? Watch some jack ass and then see how much these guys operate around the aircraft in more stressful environments.
I think they shouldn't keep their hands out of the cockpit, if the canopy fails, you can hear *snap* and collect hands from the taxiway. ;). I did my military service with F-18C Hornets.
