This is marvelous! You are so indescribably talented! This song was played by a great trumpet player for the seating of the mothers and grandmothers during my wedding almost 16 years ago! Still makes me get emotional
It dosen't sound like you were just using notes from the overtone series, is there a way to change pitch (other than overtones) with a natural brass instrument?
Great job!!! The great thing about Nate is not just his courage to play such a finicky instrument live, but his balls to play on-the-spot embellishments. He trills all of his whole notes, adds embellishments, etc. He does this better than any valved trumpeter I've heard. You can whine that his alternate tonguing could be more distinct and he'd huff more (Friedemann Immer on Youtube-Brandenburgh #2), but who cares! He's my favourite trumpeter in the world today!
@anisuthideyakoindu Das Blaue vom Himmel ist das schönste wenn man hochschaut. Natürlich auch ein paar Wölkchen die sind auch schön die lässt er ja oben. Notfalls streicht man halt ein bißchen nach. Deine Frage hat was! Schön! Grüße!
@jimraw1 the baroque natural trumpet is tuned flatter than modern insturments at A440. i think they are at 414, or something like that so that's why it sounds like its in a strange key.
Baroque tuning varies - ensembles tuned against the fixed pitch instrument (usually playing continuo) such as the organ or harpsichord. In the case of organ pitch would vary from instrument to instrument. Eg, when the organ pipes required maintenance, the ends would be trimmed and filed thus raising the pitch a little. Tunings would also vary in temperament. The damn french standardized pitch at A=440Hz during classical period, around the same time they went on a harpsichord burning frenzy.

this mvt. is probably my favorite andante for trumpet EVER! So pretty and most people have no idea how brutal it is for the player. Really speaks to Nate's abilities.
Que bonito sonido!!! una pregunta maestro Mayfield: ¿CUANTAS TROMPETAS ANTIGUAS TIENE?, ¿SÓLO EN ÉSTA FORMA? ¿O TAMBIEN EN LA OTRA FORMA? ES DECIR CON LOS ORIFICIOS CERCA DE LA BOQUILLA? Saludos desde México.
Nice! I heard Nathaniel Mayfield play live at a baroque trumpet recital in Houston about a year and a half ago (at Christ the King Lutheran Church, with fellow baroque trumpeter Niklas Eklund and the church's organist), and Mr. Mayfield played with incredible beauty and mastery. I had heard many of the world's great modern baroque trumpeters before him, but none of them ever made me as exited about the instrument as hearing Nate Mayfield play did.

Just loved the drum kit in the left hand corner. I was wondering when the drummer would chip in... :)

very nice tone but is he playing the concerto in D Major - sounds like he's on a lower key.

@jimraw1 Baroque tuning would make it closest to D flat .
