well all that matters is that there nutritional needs are met. Meat or no meat makes no difference. We have already removed dogs from the food chain and fed them different meat than what they are used to eating. Yes they do have sharp meat meant for flesh, bu i don't think they were meant to take down cattle. And besides, dogs have come a long way since there wolf ancestors. He actually used to get to chew on bones left over from dinner (which we'd NEVER do now, because cooked bones can splinter! DON'T GIVE COOKED BONES TO DOGS!), and get all of our meat scraps. Heck, our large, epileptic dog with thyroid problems we have now gets meat scraps, and is still going strong like he has for the past 12 years.

1. So if the dog food is made of meat byproduct (the stuff people do not eat) how are animals being slaughtered specifically for dog food? It seems to be less wasteful in my opinion. 2. Dogs need a specific amount of protein in their diet. Also, a good percentage of dogs have grain allergies. These grains are typically used as filler in dog food, more so in veggie dog food. Be careful and keep an eye out for symptoms of food allergies which you can find all over the Internet.
My dogs are vgetarian too, they are 7 and 2, they are happy, healthy and active, when i first got the youngest one, she was often very sick, vomiting alot, she ate the meat food. now she does not at all. coincidence?

Dogs still have to have a lot of protein for at least their first year so they can develop properly, so the typical diet of normal puppy chow, with all the scraps from the animals slaughtered for human consumption, is the smartest choice, unless you can find another sufficient source of protein. If you do have a veggie pup you better buy a lot of suppliments and hope it's enough for proper development.^^
That's true that if they were in the wild they would eat other animals and get eaten too but dogs aren't really in the wild anymore. Hey Onision, why did you not post links to back up your claims? My dog lived a very long life, a large dog, that naturally live shorter lives, and we fed him steaks. He actually used to get to chew on bones left over from dinner (which we'd NEVER do now, because cooked bones can splinter! DON'T GIVE COOKED BONES TO DOGS!), and get all of our meat scraps. Heck, our large, epileptic dog with thyroid problems we have now gets meat scraps, and is still going strong like he has for the past 12 years.

1. So if the dog food is made of meat byproduct (the stuff people do not eat) how are animals being slaughtered specifically for dog food? It seems to be less wasteful in my opinion. 2. Dogs need a specific amount of protein in their diet. Also, a good percentage of dogs have grain allergies. These grains are typically used as filler in dog food, more so in veggie dog food. Dogs still have to have a lot of protein for at least their first year so they can develop properly, so the typical diet of normal puppy chow, with all the scraps from the animals slaughtered for human consumption, is the smartest choice, unless you can find another sufficient source of protein. So in a way we make up for the natural order by killing the animals that would have been killed by the dogs plus we use those animals that are killed for our food as well and the dogs get what we don't use, which I'm sure the dogs really don't mind at all.
