  • I would love to have heard Agnetha and Anafrid sing this.

  • song is good, but the lyrics does not even sound like english...

  • l'un des plus beaux slows du monde

  • who actually sings this song?

  • @mischievousgirl15 They do ! Dickerson and Paige are the original performers of this song, especially written and composed for "Chess", along with another hit "One Night in Bangkok" performed by Murray Head

  • @mahefaa aaaaaaaah :)

  • Certainly loly2128 . She can't be mine. Neither can he. Back to playing magic the gathering with myself, and loosing every time. (wft?)

  • I wonder if this song possibly inspired the song Does He Love You by Reba McEntire & Linda Davis

  • Hti #1 on the UK pop chart for 4 weeks on Feb 9, 1985

  • this is one of the best tunes ever made.

  • Moppy I love you. Always.

  • i remember this song..one of my favorite song since my child hood days..

  • Amy Winehouse brought me here. <3

  • im not really a sap but it was 2 years on the 28th of november since my mum has passed away, up in the clouds looking down on me.

love you mum and i know you always loved this song so this 1 is for you x x x x x x

  • Great performance, great singers and great song

  • I'm a 24 yr old guy i love dance music

but this is a secret pleasure that only gets played in my head phone "shhh"

  • @DMaddox2010

I was 18 when this song came out in 1984, that was great

  • This song warms my heart!

  • is it just me? LOVE LOVE LOVE THEIR OUTFITS

  • Great song, love it

  • SIMPLY WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I really wanted Frida and Agnetha from ABBA to sang that...

  • Great song...Am a big fan of Barbara ..I think Elaine tends to dominate this a bit too much..she evens joins in when Barbara is singing her voice

  • @euronick61 She is harmonizing, as she is supposed to be doing -- and beautifully. EP is fantastic. Barbara also good on this duet.

  • @davesurrey7 Barbara doesn't 'harmonize' (ie butt in) during Elaines verse lol....a great song nevertheless...as you can guess I am a bigger fan of Barbara than Elaine (although I have nothing against Elaine..she is a great singer) I just feel she dominates this song a tad too much

  • This beautiful song houses all my regrets. Even after nearly 30 years, I cry and cry. Wonderful singers.

  • susan boyle brought me here..

  • Takes me back some years but still a great song sung brilliantly by two great singers. Must be the best duet performance ever - they compliment each other so well.

  • reminds me of my childhood , this would have not worked with two other women

  • @scottclarke25 ...Oh yes it would!! -- I'll bet Agnetha and Frida from ABBA would sing it even better! After all ,....Benny and Bjorn wrote the song!

  • @Torkgasmicgirl8

What total rubbish!! Those bland, dull ABBA women with absolutely no personality outside of the group can't hold a candle to these true stars - who are superb together and individually.

  • @Gayalert69 ...Agnetha and Frida..bland and dull?..sorry if I offended you but Benny & Bjorn wrote the song and as an ABBA fan I would've like to have heard them sing a version of it...I'm not dissing your love for Barbara and Elaine.

  • @Torkgasmicgirl8 Wrong!. Tim Rice wrote the song.Benny & Bjorn wrote the music. If you go to the interview with Rice, He tells you this is about his affair with Paige.

  • big fan of Elaine Paige

  • wonderful marvelous fantastic .... 2 beautiful singer a very nice song to listen a meaning lyrics

  • Great music

  • Now this is good music... Those were the days... And I'm only 26...

  • @leecleasby, I think the musical is about politics and love as much as the board game itself. That's a lot of strategy - I hope it puts your mind at rest.

  • this version is the best, and the most original! Whitneys version is okey, but this is the one that owns.

  • I was disappointed to learn the musical "Chess" is actually about Chess and not a clever metaphor about strategy etc.

  • I remember my mother playing this song for hours on end. I am just glad I never stopped loving this song.

  • love it!!

  • Maravillosa version!!!!

  • 1:25 Barbara Dickson looks about 7ft tall

  • @victorianrosebud that's because Elaine Paige is really short...

  • @victorianrosebud she's actually 8 ft 3

  • You can tell that this is Benny and Bjorn's work just from the style. It's like a lost ABBA classic.

  • I have to sing this for a show my musical theatre group are putting on,

I'm playing Florence (Elaine Page's part)

    and I'm finding it so hard, she does it so beautifully :'}

  • I JusT BurST InTO CRy ,,eaCh Time I liSTen To ThaT SOnG

    Isn't it madness,

    He can't be mine? :( :(

  • @loly2128 I burst into tears reading your comment, is your caps key broken?

  • @davbob iT'S My SpeCial Way Of wRiTinG

  • @loly2128 wasn't he fine ...........

  • @TheMarkc

    yeah ,,he is

  • @loly2128 oooohhhhHHHH

  • susan boyle and peter kay made this song sound 10 times better lol

  • @WesleyCorrea100

Barbra Streisand's version is 100 times better

  • @colormemichael It's not even close, and the ridiculous thing about the Streisand versionis that she duets with a man. So he's singing lines like "...learned about the man before I fell...." - ridiculous.

  • love this song xx

  • reminds me of ABBA

  • @tagjohnson One of the guys in ABBA made wrote this song

  • i think that we were of a generation that had great music , i love this song man.

  • @blackstump69 yeah and unfortunately a generation that will never get music like this anymore eh

  • I saw it live sang by Siobhan McCarthy in Chess, London. It was great!!!! Siobhan McCarthy with her beauty and wonderful voice is the best I've ever seen in West end shows!!!

  • When this song was competing the top hit with Dead or Alive and Rick Astlay, I was in the UK. Paula, Donna, Nikki, hope you are doing well and remember the foreign visitor! This song brought me back to Hounslow, wish you see this comment!!

  • I didn't know who the original singers of this song were until now. I think Page has a beautiful voice and did a great job, however the Whitney of the 80's coundn't be touched. Her anjelic voice was crisp and clear and whoever says she oversings or runs with the lyrics or whatever just don't get it. It's called soul, lol, sorta like when she did I Will Always Love You. Listen to dolly's version, then listen to hers. Case closed!

  • @redgpgtp

Sorry the Whitney version was just tasteless and vulgar. It's the bling version of a song which is performed here with respect and sensitivity.

  • As a working man on the sites whilst listening to the wireless and eating sandwhiches, always thoughht elaine was my lover and i was her lady chatterly x

  • Amazing isn't it, even outside of ABBA, Benny and Bjorn still manage to work a Frida and Agnetha song into the show...they're even blonde and brunette. Btw, what's with Elaine Paige's cannon tits at 0.51?

  • ELAINE PAGE IS DA BEST. I LOVE HER HEAPS. GO ELAINE YOUR A BEAUTIFUL SINGER SENT BY GOD XOXOXOX

  • I prefer the Peter Kay and Susan Boyle version!!

  • Both great singers, but I adore Elaine Paige!

  • @kndlmn331

Each to his own but, technically, Dickson is by far the better singer. The purity and power of her voice soars above Elaine.

  • PETER KAY AND SUBO FTW

  • Wow how wonderful .

Thank you for sharing you are great Jane

  • nothing can compare to this.i really love hearing it.

  • i wasn't born yesterday but i prefer to hear this song always.

  • Another classic song I really like it...

  • Why doesn't anyone write songs or sing them like this anymore? It seems a shame to lose such musical beauty.

  • The hair in this video is outrageous lol, but i love Elaine Paige!!!

  • Great song!

Who is Svetlana and who is Florence? :)

  • @ebbaannamaria Elaine is Florence and Barbara is Svetlana. Contrary to popular belief though, Barbara never played the part on stage. Only appearing on the 1984 concept album and a very short date concert tour around the same time of the albums release.

  • i lovveee this song!

  • Another masterpiece by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulveous.

  • Thumbs up if Susan Boyle sent you here. :D

  • how can any1 dislike this song?????????

  • Surely I'm not the only one who's watching this because I wanted to compare them to Idina Menzel and Kerry Ellis?

It was great on Comic Relief too :)

  • @unshallowifyable Great song yes shame you had to comment on it after all you can't stand me having a point of view so I might as well rub your nose in the shitty point of view that is yours and there is not a lot you can do about it you 18 year old spoilt brat. Sorry little boy every time you comment on something I am going to make it my duty to slag your comments off for mouthing off at me. Yes you and Louise are a pair of cowards because you cannot hack someone having a negative point of view

  • A Truly Beautiful song. almost brought a tear to my eye

  • dulcet tones that could only come from HEAVEN !!!!

  • :( Why am I falling apart?

  • And once again, Susan Boyle has revived a song!

  • I love this song but really hate the instrument the melody is played on.

  • mum dad mark...love you forever! why did u have to leave us at 16 xxxxxxxxxxxxxx resting now

  • This song <3 I'm NOT watching this cause of Comic Relief. I'm watching it because of Chess. My favorite version of this is the concert :O With Idina Menzel and Kerry Ellis.. AND JOSH GROBAN. mmmm

  • @boltoniangirl Hi, Im sorry, but! I wasn't watching this becacause of C.R. I remember this when it first came out. And A LOT of years later only found, it is from a musical. CHESS I think. • @boltoniangirl Sorry, But, not me!! I remember this when it first came out. Just lisen to the words, I want this played when Im gone!!! This has and always will be my fav song of all time ever!!

  • @boltoniangirl LMAO

  • This could have been an Abba song as it was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. Its was the first song to be written and released by them after Abba broke up.

  • mince piessssw

  • mince pie

  • SOng that made me cry... SOngs that full of emotions....

  • @thina0121 mince pies

  • Peter Kay & Susan Boyle are doing a version of this for Comic Relief 2011

  • just so beautiful.. they don't make music like this no more

  • listen AND then watch

  • I just cant afford not to listen to this song, the melody and the voice, just soothes to my soul, and i appreciate the STEPS group who made the revival of this song

  • amazing song but jesus the shortest one has got the worlds smallest head. And I thought Jimmy Krankie had a small head. .....

  • I am a fan of Elaine Paige but I must say I like Barbara Dickson's voice better!!

  • awesome hair.

  • what a classic song, fantastic, good singers good songs lost to the past, don't make them like this anymore shame

  • Fuck this is the vocal version I have!!!...OMG to the OMG this is the most beautiful song!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh honestly wow...unfortunately the video is a tad bit cheezy abba-ish

  • @toemeraldcity It was written by Benny and Bjorn from ABBA so that's why it has the same feel probably

  • one of the best songs and duets.

  • Well said PaulHadlow... never been bettered !

  • omg, this reminds me of top of the pops in the 80s with Dynasty on later..i miss the 80s :(

  • I don't think we can ever hear this kinda high singing tones anymore

  • It is absolutely criminal that those of us living in the US have probably never heard of Ms. Paige. I knew nothing about her until Susan Boyle made reference to her. I am an instant fan! It is good to hear real talent again!!!

  • @bowled300rick I soooo agree! I never even heard of her until she dueted with my favorite singer John Barrowman. And then I relized John and Daniel Boys also dueted this song together!

  • Interesting how much this resembles an Abba video, with the two women facing away from each other.

  • @deeprose4 :) It was composed by Tim Rice along with Björn and Benny of ABBA..

  • @bonbonquest Hi, thanks. I did remember reading that the two men of Abba were writers for the musical Chess, however you can see their influence in this video as well.

  • I love them both! I love the quality of their voices also!!!!!!! EXCELLENT!!!!!!

  • i remember hearing this as a child, classic, my ma was well into it, hair is a bit dodgy though lol

  • i wish she knew me so well

  • true true :-)

  • I'm with Nadia. I love this song.

  • This is my guilty pleasure :3 I love this song !

  • two of the greatest female vocalists, prefect harmonies

  • i past my driving test when this classic was no 1, brings back memories

  • me and tessies song

  • Why do songs pop into your life when most applicable...

  • those two girls on b g t were better!!!

  • what a song two top class singers

  • I think the girls done good. Glad we don't have to dress like that anymore.

  • @PatrickLMT

Must have taken you days to think up this witty gem!!

  • Great song by Bjorn and Benny. Sung very well by EP and Barbara D.

  • @PatrickLMT do you think Elaine Paige got special dispensation not to wear a crash helmet whilst riding a moped?

  • Very moving. A classic. Happy New Year.

  • This is a classic! There is nothing that even compares to this performance nowadays! Here we have 2 amazing, genuine voices!

  • @paulhadlow I Completely and totally 100% agree. I was about 8 or 9 when this came out. I've made many coments about it on this and this, is, has and always will be. My all time fav, song ever!!!

  • A true classic song and Eric this is for you and cant believe its a year since you have gone. Sadly missed and never forgotten and this song was your favorite i know and strangley my grans as well. Miss you both and thank you this song has been posted on here :)

  • There is just so much ABBA in this. The way Barbra is dessed could be Freda, to back to back singing, everything. I would have loved to see this sung by the ABBA gils, much as I adore this version

  • what's wrong with their hair? ;-):-D

  • It was the eighties!

  • its look like their wearing Russian hats or trying to mingle with sexually active polar bears trying to make each other look as unattractive as possible. My opinion m8

  • @OoGrizabellaoO That's what people looked like in the 80s, I'm afraid...

  • @OoGrizabellaoO It's called the '80s.

  • @OoGrizabellaoO

Got spooked by the shoulder pads....iiiihhhh.....!!!!

  • @hildaatje ,Lol,yeah,those shoulder pads,fecking HUGE!

  • they are both so talented. love them..but their hair!! :)
