@krnannable So sorry about your kitty. Mine are my babies. I just lost 2 of my oldest in quick succession. I have 3 left. I miss them every day. Hope you're feeling better.
I just lost a cat I rescued yesterday, she was someone's pet with a collar on. She had bad wounds although seemed in no pain. She passed from this life peacefully and this beautiful song helps my grief.
@verdew8181 Bless you for rescuing her...I hope you brought her to a vet. If she died in no pain you did all you could and I thank you for caring about her.
@FDroid01 Yeah, makes you realize it's about someone losing a child. Doesn't get much sadder than that. Have you ever listened to "Angel Band" by The Stanley Brothers? It's also on the excellent "O' Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack.
This is Chicken Soup for the soul. I have watched the movie a hundred times and I still fall on the floor laughing at every scene. The music just takes you away. I'm fixin to R-U-N-N-O-F-T-Y
hell i am 43 and none of us get out of here alive ............death is nothing to fear it is something we will all face and face it alone .............
This song would make my Aunt and Grandmother cry everytime they heard it. now it makes cry everytime I hear it because my Aunt is dying of brain cancer. </3
I lost my best friend and Father May 5th 2011, he was a huge lover of bluegrass and god...I am still having a hard time without him, I miss you Dad...my first Christmas without you will be a tough one.,.
@Milto90 The Cox family is the featured artists in this song. I love the song because it takes me back to my roots and my family always singing together.
I love this song so much! I'm swis ( so sorry for my spelling.. ) But I work in an english school, in the moment in the nursery school, so i ues this as lullaby, maby its a sad song but the melody is just pervect for bed time :) and it's a good message too!
Kiss me mother kiss your darlin Lay my head upon your breast Throw your loving arms around me I am weary let me rest Seems the light is swiftly fading Brighter scenes they do now show I am standing by the river Angels wait to take me home Kiss me mother kiss your darlin See the pain upon my brow While I'll soon be with the angels Fate has doomed my future now Through the years you've always loved me And my life you've tried to save But now I shall slumber sweetly In a deep and lonely grave
I don't feel this song has anything to do with religion per se, but religion is an device that many people use to help them through life. Perhaps the writers of the song used their religious inclinations in the song in the same way they use them to deal with life. That doesn't mean that the song doesn't speak to a universal truth that goes beyond any religious philosophy.
My grandmother was 85, she'd lost husband, children and grandchildren. The last time I spoke to her, she said, "I'm just tired and weary, ready to go, to see the ones I've lost, to rest". Years later, I heard this song, which maybe she'd already heard, I don't know. I just know it's easier to face the end now, I love the ones I have, but do not fear what comes next as the years pass and I get weary of this world. Great song, great version, thankful I've heard it.
I just lost my father. He was a lover (and a player) of bluegarss country and gospel, not to mention how much he loved O brother where art thou? This soundtrack is full of beautiful and fitting music for such times. It is really helping me through my grieving.
i am atheist, but i like this song because unlike todays "musical" garbage, this song is very real music, this has a lot of talent you can hear about a 16th into the first note of the song, it is played with instruments, and it is not autotuned, unlike modern "music" that is all written and autotuned by a computer, there is no talent in that. and its been almost 7 years since the last time i listened to this song, thank you for posting
@krnannable I am sorry for your loss. I too lost my beloved cat, Little Nicky, this March to Chronic Kidney Failure. He died with in a week of diagnosis. I still miss him deeply.
@krnannable Yes, but he was only home one day. We only gave him his sub q's once. He wasn't eating for us at all, so the vet told us to bring him back in. The next morning she called us and told us he'd died in the night. His numbers were really high and only went down a little with treatment at the vets. When they redid his blood work the day before he died, she said his numbers had gone up.
@frenchinsaneguy I think of the last time I saw my grandparents touch hands before my grandfathers passing later that night..song stirs so much emotion.
@frenchinsaneguy very well said......cursing not withstanding.......but it shows your grass roots......we all do need to so let go of things that ( even though may be the best of what we been), hold us back of what we can be
@crazyjenius74 It's the theory of the five stages of feeling a dying person goes through. 1 - Denial ("I don't feel like I'm dying, there must be some mistake") 2 - Anger ("It's not fair!") 3 - Bargaining ("I'd do anything to live") 4 - Depression ("If I'm dying, what's the point of anything anymore?") and finally 5 - Acceptance. It also holds true for people who are grieving for a loved one.
@crazyjenius74 No problem! It's a very useful theory. Everyone deals with death in a unique way, but most people follow this pattern a lot of the way, and it can help people understand what they're feeling.

So much modesty towards such an awful life event; death.
This song is terribly insightful. It's about learning to let go, and earning a last kiss.
It's the fucking last stage of Kubler-Ross' theory. It's acceptance.
Thank you.
