Then i'll give that to you- but for a horse that will protect and trust it's owner and do what it's asked (if the owner has earned the horses respect) the Arabian is all over it and hands down beats the saddlebred- but i'm , as WolfOfMistyHallows puts it, "Horsist" too. :~}

Arabs are a lot more sure footed, much more intelligent, and much much more endurance. Saddlebreds, which has primarily been bred for the showring, can be a bit more silly on the trails. But there are good and bad individuals within any breed.

I have 2 Egyptian Arabians and they are both absolutely gorgeous! I love them to bits. I have a 15hh black called Oliver and a 15.1hh liver chestnut called Sultan. They are such nice natured energetic and elegant horses! By far my favourite breed.

@skyandkit contrary to what you say, all the arabs i've met have been loyal and sweet tempered horses, and the ones that are mad have been either mishandled or fed too much sugar (they evolved eating in the desert, so the typical english hard feed can be a litte too heating) I'd feel much safer ona correctly managed aran than on the average thoroughbred.

Every horse is fine if correctly managed, its just ive never met a well tempered arabian yet.

It's just her imagination... and maybe she wasn't imagining herself sweating... which I imagine I'd be pouring sweat. I'm from WA, and went to CA for a week, and when I was outside and it was 100 degrees, I'd have sweat all on my lower back, lol.

Start with contacting the Arabian Horse Society of Australia and see if they have a mentor program (we do here in the states). Do the same with the Australian Endurance Riders Association. They both have web sites and will probably have regional/ local clubs that can set you up with educated people who will in good faith introduce you to the breed. Get one that is a good match for you and you'll be blessed for life!! :)

Thanks so much for the advice magictrick, you really seem to know your Arabians. Do you ride/breed? There is an association here, but endurance seems to be a bit of a secret world, hopefully I can find the door in! I used to have an Arabian Stockhorse, they are amazing horses. A purebred Arabian, I hope I can handle one!

I have not be impressed with the AHA, they do not respond to reppeted e-mails or phonecalls from 4-h's. And dont have any good member programs. only a breeder club, thats sad.

That sucks that they haven't been more responsive to you. 4-H is a great venue to attract new people to this fun, versatile, and beautiful breed! I rejoined AHA last year when I saw that they had some new programs for recreational riders. I don't breed or show Class A (the crowd they usually cater too), but feel that they have something for me now. I'm enrolled in the frequent riders program and they send me t-shirts and pins and stuff. Maybe give 'em another chance?
