European countries and other nations around the world are in protest of it. Most of the European governments I believe are smart enough to stand down when its people don't want something they're supportive of. The thing being I could name 6 participating governments that would ratify it regardless of their peoples opposition.

SOPA/PIPA are projects for an US law to protect copyright on internet. Seems good, but it would be the worst censhorship ever on internet. The whole internet community went on a fight against SOPA/PIPA, and the US gave it up (but not definitely, beware).

And ACTA is the same thing, but for the entir world.
